3 Power Train problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 09/21/2023

I encountered a major issue with the mercedes Ml350, while doing a 3 point turn in a busy suburban toronto street. The electronic shift module left me stuck in road way. Causing traffic back up and could not move vehicle. Neither forward or reverse. Tried pushing and different tactics to move vehicle off road. Had to call caa-aaa. It was a caos situation, first tow truck could not load vehicle, all wheels were locked in drive and would not shift. Had to wait for special tow have all four wheels lifted off onto dolly. Tow truck driver said it is a common problem. With mb,BMW and Audi. Vehicles towed to dealer sat at dealer. Parts on back order and not available for repair. Since was in toronto away from home. Had to source original equipment supplier to purchase part. Dealer and factory mercedes could not source part. Back ordered. The dealer agreed to install the factory oem part they could not source. My concern to all owners including myself in line traffic a basic traffic maneuver stuck in blocking traffic. Cannot moving vehicle jammed in gear that controlled by a shift module. No safe limp mode or emergency shift to neutral to move vehicle safely.

While at a stop light vehicle suddenly surged forward plowing into vehicle in front causing four car collision. Vehicle on two prior occasions, had surged without incident. This occurred on a city street in vohess, NJ. The cause is unknown.

9 Power Train problem of the 2013 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 05/31/2019

Vehicle has 129,000 miles. When trying to accelerate from a stop, mostly noticeable when fuel is lower in the tank and/or on an incline, rpm drops to zero, no amount of pressure on gas pedal does anything until the engine speed picks up, usually with a jerk forward. Makes going onto a busy street very unsafe. Have read it may be software related.

10 Power Train problem of the 2011 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 04/07/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2011 mercedes-benz Ml350. While accelerating from a stop, the engine jerked and the vehicle lost acceleration. Also, the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact restarted the engine and was able to regain acceleration. On one occasion, while exiting traffic at 40 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration. When the vehicle was shut off and restarted, the contact was able to regain acceleration and drove to an independent mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed that the transmission was "sleeping". The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

11 Power Train problem of the 2012 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 03/29/2019

This car's transmission went out at 70,000 miles (2015), which is way too early. Driving when the transmission began to act up was very dangerous and potentially as it lost power could have caused collision. I replaced transmission for $14,000 and then the transmission went out for a second time (2019). Causing the same safety concerns as it lost power. This time I was not stupid enough to fix it and will not be buying a mercedes ever again.

12 Power Train problem of the 2011 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 01/10/2019

When car comes to a stop, and the driver pushes the button to put the car in "park", the car does not go into park, but stays in "drive" or "reverse". Driver leaves car, and because driver is unaware that the vehicle remains in "drive", and did not switch to "park", the car can begin to idle forward while driver leaves or has left the vehicle, or idles in reverse, as driver leaves or has left the vehicle, as the "park" position is not activated. This can be quite dangerous to the driver, or to passengers or pedestrians. At times, the car does go into "park", but at other times, it does not, it stays in "drive" or "reverse", misinforming the driver. This is an unsafe situation.

13 Power Train problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 06/11/2018

Conductor plate transmission issue.

14 Power Train problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 11/13/2017

While driving at most any speed, transmission periodically goes into no gear or a single gear (low or a higher gear) and 'limp mode' without warning. . . . Sometimes a "check engine" light. Very scary especially in traffic on the freeway. Bought the vehicle earlier this year with 60,000 miles on it. . . I am 72 and wife is 71. . . She is afraid to drive it because of the uncertainty of the drive train. I finally took it to Mercedes Benz as the would not sell my my independent mechanic the parts to repair problem. Mercedes says that I need to have the 722. 9 transmission valve body replaced at $3,000 period. I have read of a myriad of similar problems with other owners of cars with this type of transmission. . . . Even class action suits. I believe that this is a very dangerous condition that must be resolved and repaired by the manufacturer. I even called Mercedes Benz of north America and their representative said he knew of no problems with this model of transmission. I also read that they are not changing any parts. . . . Just reprogramming the transmission to not go into limp mode and not activating the check engine light. . . . . How can I insure that my vehicle will be repaired correctly and be safe to drive?.

15 Power Train problem of the 2013 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 05/11/2017

In may 2017, while driving, check engine light came on. Acceleration was extremely reduced in a very dangerous way. Took vehicle to dealer. Dealer diagnosed problem as an oil leak that has been leaking on the wiring harness, which caused wiring/electrical system for entire vehicle to completely fail. Estimated repair is $13,500. The vehicle has 34k miles, and the original factory warranty expired in late February 2017. Had routine oil change at dealer in February, no oil leak detected. Dealer service tech was very familiar with this issue and has seen ten or so of them. Unprotected wiring harness seems to be a manufacturing defect. Several months prior to warranty expiration, reported small electrical problems to mb dealer, but dealer was unable to replicate/determine cause. All scheduled maintenance completed at mb dealer per mb schedule. Contacted mbusa to request a goodwill repair credit given the nature of the repair, the history of the vehicle, history with mb, etc. And since this defect likely predated warranty expiration. Mbusa customer care center was indifferent. Parts alone are $8,000. Mbusa offered to contribute only 10%.

16 Power Train problem of the 2011 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 04/29/2017

The contact owns a 2011 mercedes-benz Ml350. While driving 70 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. At the time of the failure, the accelerator pedal was depressed to the floorboard, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic was unable to properly diagnose the vehicle. The vehicle was eventually towed to the local mercedes dealer (james motor company (2440 richmond rd, lexington, ky 40502, (859) 268-1150). The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

17 Power Train problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 02/02/2017

My car suddenly lost power in the highway, and didn't want to accelerate, causing car to high rpm rev, going into limp mode and not accelerate, almost causing my family and to have a serious accident. Vehicle was diagnosed by a shop which stated my speed sensor conductor plate is defective. . . Upon doing research, I have noticed that this is common dangerous issue on the 06 mercedes ml models. . Mercedes even has a class action suite against them due to this issue. .

18 Power Train problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 10/31/2016

Serpentine belt system. While driving on road at the highway speed, one of the idler pulleys locked up due to the failed bearing, leading to damaging/braking serpentine belt. That led to loss of steering (loss of power steering) and overheating the engine. Created a very danger situation and left my family stranded many miles away from home. Very costly towing service and repair.

19 Power Train problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 10/22/2016

My 2006 merc Ml350, broke down on me 10/22/16, as soon as I got off the freeway because I was hearing a crackling sound from the engine. I was able to drive in a local parking lot to avoid embarrassment. This vehicle is always needing something, and at this time it was hard to turn the sterring wheel to park it because the serpentine (vbelt) had unraveled its way from the alternator pulley!! the lord had saved my life! same year in March fremont dealership said I needed to replace my air condersor but never said anything about my belt being worn or cracked or anything about this. This should have been noticed at that present time. They misinformed me at that time about the vbelt needing to be replaced and tried to sell me a air mass sensor. Mercedes knows about vehicle 2006 year and all the parts that are malfunctioning and wont lift a finger to recal or reimburse or pay entirely. I vould have died on tge freeway had this v belt wouls have came off! tookbitvin for repairs and the dealer is requesting $2350 to replace air condition unit and they will have to open up alternator & adjust + vbelt. Campaign anyone or botcott mbusa!!.

20 Power Train problem of the 2013 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 10/22/2016

The contact owns a 2013 mercedes-benz Ml350. While parking the vehicle with the brake pedal depressed and the gear shifter in the reverse position, the vehicle accelerated backwards on its own. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

21 Power Train problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 10/04/2016

Safety issues being observed on ml 350 2007 observations (my wife & I have both experienced): automatic transmission , experiencing limp mode creating a safety issues which cannot be foreseen, can happen any time the problem occurs when you least expect it and unpredictable, it will be driving fine and then all of a sudden it will start losing power in traffic & drag down. Also, the vehicle will start shifting by itself from one gear to another & the speed of the cars starts to crawl, like "limp mode" the idle speed starts to rev up, car is not increasing the speed as one would expect once normally when pressing on the gas pedal. One has to pull over if they can or stuck in the street one is driving which I experienced and tried to pull over & had issues. I basically had to turn the engine off in the middle of the road while driving and hoped the car would start back again, I had to repeat this several times as I experienced the drag down and gears going down. Very scary incidents with children & wife in the car when I was coming back from an occasion (I. E. Driving back home). Told by dealer on 10/11/ code 0717 & 0718 & not covered under warranty 4 years/50k potentially related issue: code 064 incident had occured several times now in the last few weeks.

22 Power Train problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 08/26/2016

Check engine light came on, and got both codes p0016 and p0017. Upon further investigation, this seems to be a known defect by Mercedes Benz for the balancer shaft worn sprocket issue. This is an expensive repair, almost the cost of the vehicle! mbusa picks and chooses who they will help? wow, wish I never got this car!.

23 Power Train problem of the 2015 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 02/19/2016

When the vehicle's parking mechanism is engaged, the vehicle rolls several feet before coming to a complete stop; thereby endangering anyone in, near, or around the vehicle at that time from getting run over or, seriously injured by the moving vehicle.

24 Power Train problem of the 2011 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 01/15/2016

Reference: seifi vs mercedes-benz. I have 66,000 miles on my car. The engine light came on while driving, when I took it to the dealership, I was told part was defective. Has code1200, 12007 for balance shaft. Mercedes had this same problem just settled for 2005-2007 model.

25 Power Train problem of the 2012 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 11/19/2015

Oil was leaking from the engine which was the result of a faulty part that mercedes has subsequently replaced with a new re-engineered part. The dealer indicated that the issue is systemic with all blue-tec m and g class vehicles which mercedes will not cover the charge for. The repair requires that the engine be removed from the car because that it is the only way the part ($30) can be replaced. The resulting repair cost over $1900 in labor. We noticed the leak because there was oil drips in our garage. The service technician at the dealership noted that we had lost about a third of our oil and that the oil was covering the engine and it was also noted that the oil could have caused a fire if the part was not immediately replaced.

26 Power Train problem of the 2014 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 06/20/2015

While entering the highway, the vehicle shifted at extremely high revs, then became 'stuck' in fourth gear. The manual shifting paddles would not shift the transmission up or down. Placing the vehicle in neutral, and then back into drive had no impact. Vehicle remained in fourth gear. Because I was on a highway, in high speed traffic, it was a dangerous situation. Eventually, I was able to pull of the highway, turned off the car and once it was restarted, the car shifted normally. The high-rev shifting event had occurred one time before (approximately 3 months ago), but because of the short nature of the trip, I never required speeds above 35 mph.

27 Power Train problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 03/07/2015

We are having some serious issues with our Mercedes Benz Ml350, 2007. The safety hazard concerns us deeply. Based upon our research, we have discovered that this is a common problem. Others are facing the same issues with this vehicle. This problem occurs when you least expect it. It will be driving fine and then all of a sudden, it will lose all power in the traffic where you are totally helpless and unable to pull over. This is very dangerous because the vehicle slows down unexpectedly which can cause a major accident. Example: when you are crossing a highway; you think the vehicle will drive normal. But then all of a sudden it drags. Therefore, you will have to crawl. Each time we have to restart the vehicle. It appears that the vehicle resets itself when the engine is turned off. Then the vehicle proceeds as normal. Another example: it won't shift from second gear to third, and you can only crawl 10-40 mph. It refuses to shift any more. Other drivers around us on the road become extremely impatient and start screaming and using violent gestures. Another time, I was coming off a highway merging to the access road. The vehicle slowed down. I pressed on the gas, the engine revved up but the car slowed down to about 35mph and a 18 wheeler behind us almost hit us by swerving to avoid a major accident. I had to crawl on the access road with fast moving traffic. There are other reports with the 2007 Mercedes Benz Ml350 power train (transmission) to have these issues. The reports I have read indicated that the Mercedes Benz corporation is not willing to own up to the fact that this vehicle is very dangerous and can cause serious implications. I plead for your help to please look into this matter so that others with the same problem with this car can be spared. We are appealing for your help.

28 Power Train problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

Loss of power steering fluid resulting in diminished or total loss of power steering. Though total loss did not happen yet, this could easily have resulted in a loss of control and a crash without any warning. 1998-2004 class was recalled for that very reason; why not the model years thereafter that have same problem; likely in same frequency.

29 Power Train problem of the 2013 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 12/23/2014

Going north on I-95 in mass at 65 mph in a driving rain the car suddenly lost ability to accelerate. The rpm and speedometer both went to 0, and the nothing happened when pressing the accelerator. All other systems (including brake, lights, radio, wipers, etc) appeared to work fine. Was able to get to shoulder, put car in park, and restart car. Everything was fine afterwards, but obviously a dangerous condition if it happens again. Will take to dealer for investigation.

30 Power Train problem of the 2009 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 04/07/2014

As I was getting ready to shift the gear lever to drive the lever sheared off and I was unable to have control of shifting the transmision to any other position such as (p/n/r). I stop the car as a safety concern and looked at the broken gear shift lever and it appear to be sheared off the weakest area of the lever or where the shifting load takes place. Car still under warranty but dealer refused to fix it under warranty with the excuse excessive force applied to shift which cause the lever to brake. I am sure the is a material defects and fatique. I have the bad part on hand and wich if I can send it for lab test to find the cause of the damage and may be this will alert for a recall.

31 Power Train problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 11/07/2013

Per an e-mail sent to daimler ag-mercedes, I have a 2007 Ml350 with only 66,000 miles which is not safe to drive as the car is not shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. The facts are: there have been many instances, reports, & complaints to mercedes where this has happened. It is not safe & the mercedes car should be recalled for repair. It should not be occurring at all especially with only 66,000 miles. Car has been taken to the sarasota, FL mercedes dealer. Cost is $1,700 which should be covered & corrected by mercedes. We currently have 2 mercedes & have had mercedes for 20 years this is an unsafe situation; it has occurred with other cars; and mercedes has received many complaints. This is not a repair issue; it is a safety issue. The speed sensor that mercedes is repairing is a hazardous situation due to the fact that the car stops shifting to any gear when leaving a stop sign or traffic light and will not accelerate. This is particularly dangerous in high traffic areas. We have had mercedes for 20 years & are aware that repairs are costly, but this is a safety issue. This is a problem that should not be occurring and it should be the responsibility of mercedes to correct it. It would be prudent of mercedes to issue a warning of the possibility of transmission error. Thank you for your assistance and cooperation.

32 Power Train problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 08/23/2013

Atm at bank was not operating and was going inside bank, at regions bank in hendersonville TN. When car was shifted from park into drive the car took off at a high rate of speed, that could not be stopped by braking. The result being, hitting two cars, when trying to go between them, then still couldn't stop until nose dive in rock lined four foot ditch .

33 Power Train problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

My 2006 Ml350 (automatic) has a transmission problem where shifting down causes the vehicle to lunge forward. All gear shifts (up or down) are hard and can be felt by the occupants in the car in the form of a jerky motion. Scouring the internet for this issue shows that this is a widely reported problem. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis who offered to replace the transmission for $7500. When asked about the root cause of the issue, the dealer stated that they would not know until they take the transmission apart and would end up costing roughly the same as replacing the transmission. The down shifting presents a danger when making sudden stops due to unforeseen traffic changes in front of the vehicle as braking hard causes the vehicle to down shift quickly which causes the vehicle to lunge forward.

34 Power Train problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 06/11/2013

Check engine light stay code 0060 = continuous camshaft adjustment ( right ) : incorrect position of the exhaust camshaft ( p000b ).

35 Power Train problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz ML350

Failure Date: 09/19/2012

2006 mercedes Ml350 75k no warning light or check engine light/unable to drive, vehicle running. Drive gears not moving or reverse not working/towed to mercedes dealer/service advisory need replace complete transmission will cost 6. 5k to replace transmission. After research. Mercedes u. S. A have a class action complaint. Defective idle gears/these defective gears wear out prematurely, excessively, and without warning, causing the vehicle to malfunction, the "check engine light" to remain illuminated, and the vehicle to misfire and /or store driving. Mercedes actual knowledge and intentional concealment of the defect due to company reputation don't want the public to know and may hurt the company image. I was shock after what I was explained by mercedes advisory not taking any responsible for defected gears and wanted to charge me. Very bad experience with mercedes.
