1 Suspension problem of the 2001 Mercedes Benz S Class

Failure Date: 05/30/2012

Went to my car in the a. M. To go to work. Turned car on, a red light came on that said vehicle too low. Sensor came on and said airmatic system was not operating properly. In April 2010 I paid about $2500 to fix this issue. The dealership says part are only under warranty for one year and this happens. As my car is very well maintained, and this is the second occurrence, and most likely another $2500, I have given up. I would mercedes would stand behind their product.

9 Suspension problem of the 2003 Mercedes Benz S Class

Failure Date: 06/12/2009

Incident one: 1. While driving in atlanta, GA in February of 2007. The front airmatic suspension failed while crossing an "inactive" railroad track. Just imagine if it was active. Mercedes-benz towed the car and replaced the defect. 2. A few days ago, I'm driving on a 40 mph speed limit road and my car starts to lower. Again. I was lucky that no one was behind me, otherwise it could have had a different outcome. How many times will someone need to report this "safety hazard" to the national highway and traffic safety administration. Does someone need to die, in order to be heard? please help me. I cannot afford to have the car I purchased, as the salesman said, "the safest car on the road," become the reason for serious injury or even death to me and others. Thank you, I hope you'll contact me within a reasonable amount of time. We need to be heard. We want you to do something, because it will make us feel that you genuinely car about listening and creating action on these complaints. What does it cost you to recall something? I know what it'll cost me or the public if you don't.

10 Suspension problem of the 2003 Mercedes Benz S Class

Failure Date: 02/07/2009

I cannot believe that there is not or will not be a recall on the "suspension" issue. I too had the fate of my car collapsing on my way home from work-which is 35 miles away-it happened. On the dash it stated in bid bold letters "airmatic car too low". I pulled over and stepped out-my heart felt like it was going to come through my chest. Everyone in that situation understands just how I felt at that time. The front of the car was completely covering half of the front tires-if I turned the wheel it would have scraped the fenders. I left the car there overnite. The next day {Sunday} my partner's brother -who is a mechanic-went to retrieve my car not being familiarized with the mercedes brand he started the car and pushed every button on the dash-he called me telling me the car was fine it was "fine". He drove my car to my home-much to my puzzlement. The car looked normal. The next day on Monday I started the car and on the dash in big red letters airmatic . Though the car looked fine I saw on closer inspection that one side in front was sagging lower, to sum this up-got the car to the dealer and was told the " air was leaking out of the bags in the front suspension". That cost $1,000 to repair-I think its cheaper to pay that than the alternative. As I write I am furious yes- I have another appointment this coming Monday for my srs system. This is the second time. This time it has to do with the front passenger seat and the etr-they state there is a fault. I have to pay $540. 00 to have a safe car? this is the second time the srs light has come on-sounds kind of like the first time it happened too-only that was covered under warranty. I have 74,000 miles on this car. Whats going to happen next? mercedes submitted a video showing an S Class with a collapsed suspension showing that it was fit to be on the road along with other cars-people what are you thinking?this is supposed to be one of the safest cars on the road! that's why we bought it . And about the srs light?.

Again in July 2008 air matic compressor again leak. Aug 2008 they told me it relay defective the airmatic pump was stuck and the airmatic pump did not pass pnumatic test again they told me the dealer charged $821. 03. Jan2009 airmatic valve block defective again charged $765. 89. I think some completely wrong with this car, but the dealer and the head of the Mercedes Benz do not want to hear me the car cost me alot of moneys and every other month I must find money to fixed the same thing over and over again that not fair.

13 Suspension problem of the 2002 Mercedes Benz S Class

Failure Date: 09/25/2008

I have a 2002 430s Mercedes Benz with only 69,000 miles on it. I have replaced the airmatic pump and paid $641. 89 on sept 25, 2008 at rick hill imports in kingsport TN and my car is again lowering to the ground while driving speeds of 40 to 50 mph. I have to pull off the road to air my car up which is dangerous. I took it back to rick hill imports they tell me the shocks are leaking air and that is a common problem with these cars. I have started doing research online I have found that their are several issues with this car yr make and model. I am told that I will have to spend another 3000-4000 to get my car in the running condition it needs to be in. My car has not been driven hard or that much. The yr of my car should have about 100000 mile on it, and it does not. I also found where there is an investigation already in place for the airmatic system. I have made mercedes aware of my problem they refuse to do anything about it. I feel that I have defaulty system and I want them to replace it after all they are known for expense luxury dependable cars and that is why you pay 70,000 dollars for their cars. This lemon airmatic system is going to cause me or one of my family member to get killed lowering to the ground at speed of 40-50mph and pulling off the side of the road to let it air up.

15 Suspension problem of the 2003 Mercedes Benz S Class

Failure Date: 07/18/2008

The airmatic warning came on my vehicle without prior incident. While driving normally last week, I suddenly noticed the panel flashing this warning. The car did not completely fail, but the car is much lower than it needs to be. When I searched this on-line I came across a forum called benzworld. Org or com. There are hundreds of complaints about this problem and many people are calling for mbusa to recall this item. I called the corporate hq and was told to take the car in to the dealer, I was to ask the service manager for a" after warranty assistance". I am not sure what this means, but this is a very expensive item to repair and there may be many things contributing to this problem. Mbusa should stand behind this faulty feature and recall this item. I will take the car in on 07/28/08 and see what the outcome is. I suspect this will cost me close to 1k on a car that has 73k miles. I will ask for the old parts and hold them in reserve for your further instructions.

23 Suspension problem of the 2000 Mercedes Benz S Class

Failure Date: 09/15/2002

My major concern is the failure of my accelerator to respond. This could have easily been a fatal accident. I was beginning to enter the interstate and the accelarator simply failed to respond. Immediately got it to the shop and they replaced the pedal valve sender, pedal housing assembly, and input new codes for the pedal valve sensor. I was charged $361. 03. Apparently many of the S Class cars have computer problems and I believe this model should be recalled to check pedal valve sensors and to install a saftey back up of some type. Many people could have already been killed because of this potentially serious problem. The suspension problem centered around the airmatic system. 1st in the shop on sept. 6,2002 mileage 46,521. Second malfunction March 21st. Mileage 53,846. This is when they charged me. Next occurrence April 3, 2003. Mileage 54,150. The dealership eventually refunded $585. 89 of those charges with no explanation how they arrived at that number. Accelerator failed on January 6, 2003 mileage 51,934. I had to take my car to daytona beach, 30 miles away, 10 times in just over 10,000 miles. Daytona beach has been very helpful but my attempts to deal with their corporate office have been meet with a condescending and uncooperative attitude. It is clear that their once terrific image of quality and customer satisfaction is a thing of the past. As information I have shared this information with the USA president of mercedes paul halata. I wrote him on April 3 and again on may 14 since I received no reply. He had a customer service rep. Who answers the phone write me a terrible letter that had the wrong car and wrong VIN. He was the same guy I called when the problems first began who did not return my calls. Nevertheless, the accelerator issue is a serious issue, everything else is just the new way of doing business in America.
