The contact owns a 2000 Mercury Cougar. The contact stated that the interior lights and headlights flickered. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the wiring harness had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number 01v031000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was 63,127 and current mileage was 67,000.
The vehicle stalled while driving. The vehicle was started by popping the clutch. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, who stated that the problem was the wiring around the starter burning. Please provide any further information.
Consumer stated that while driving down a hill vehicle died, and could not get it restarted. Consumer had to coast down a hill into a gasoline station in order to stop and hit a pillar. Vehicle was towed to a Lincoln-Mercury dealer, who told consumer that the problem was the fuel pump. Also, after contacting the manufacturer they told the mechanic that there was a recall on consumer's vehicle concerning an electrical cable which caused the power to fail.
Vehicle had battery problems. Consumer stated that mechanic told him there was a recall on this issue. Under any acceleration (light or heavy) the battery light turned on. It also turned on occasionally while cruising. The mechanic indicated that there was probably a short somewhere that he could not find and that this was a potential fire risk.

Consumer noticed a blue wire hanging from the vehicles front.
Wiring harness in the fuel tank at the fuel pump burned and melted the wires which may have caused a fire. Please provide further information.
Car's warning light stayed on constantly, took in first time was told electricle wiring, had taken in 4 more times then break lights failed they explained it was mechanicle malfunction, passenger seat cable broke been waiting since 8/26/99 for replacement, cruise control stopped working, warning for coolant keep eluminating.
While driving at 30 mph the vehicle shut down and the consumer hit the curb. Dealer contacted. Please provide additional information.
