The contact owns a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that while changing a flat tire with the factory jack, the jack bent and caused the vehicle to fall off the jack. The contact was able to change the tire and then called the manufacture. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was outside of warranty so there was nothing they could do to assist. The jack was not replaced. The failure mileage was 81,000.

: the contact stated the scissor type jack with a screw drive was stripped on the first 3-4 inches of the screw. The jack had only been used 2 times. The service dealer and the manufacture were notified. The service dealer offered to sell a replacement jack to the contact.

Vehicle's passenger side front tire blew out and while changing the tire the jack collapsed. The jack the consumer was new since this was the first time the vehicle ever had a flat tire. The consumer took the jack to the local dealer who offered to order a new one which would have to be paid for. The consumer refused the offer especially since the replacement was the same as the one that collapsed. The consumer believes the jack is not sufficient to raise the vehicle.
The right front tire experienced a blowout while driving on a 2 lane back road at 30 mph. Also, the jack broke in half when vehicle was being jacked up to remove the blowout tire. This caused the vehicle to crash down and almost sever the consumer's leg. Manufacturer was notified, and requested that the consumer send the jack to there corporate office.

Chaulking block cut to fit the tire. Dealer & manufacturer basically didn't have any information to give regarding equipment. Recall id 00200000 manufacturer's recall 00s13.
The vehicles jacking instructions were incorrect and if followed could cause injury to the operator, the recall package 00v-200 was incomplete, instead of receiving a jack warning label consumer received two jack instruction labels. Nlm.
Instructions are inadequately worded for an ill designed jack system. Angling of blocking of wheels when blocks were not provided when it indicated blocks provided. Recall #00v200000. The instructions for wheel change are misleading.
