general problems of the 2008 Mercury Mariner - part 1

The contact owns a 2021 Subaru outback. The contact stated that while idled at a stop, the maintenance warning light illuminated. The contact then stated that while the accelerator pedal was depressed the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact then stated that he had to apply pressure to the accelerator pedal to increase the rpms to approximately 3000 to allow the vehicle to proceed forward. Additionally, the contact stated that the brake pedal had to remain depressed to stop the vehicle from rolling on an incline when the vehicle failed to shift in 2ns gear. The contact stated that the vehicle was inspected by a family friend that determined the potential failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 15v606000 (power train). The dealer nor manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 309,000.

The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated while at a stop sign, the vehicle failed to accelerate upon depression of accelerator pedal with the oil warning light flashing on the instrument panel. The contact drove the vehicle despite the failure returning upon restarting the vehicle. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic and was informed that the shift lever had disengaged from the transmission. The contact was then referred to the manufacturer after the mechanic discovered NHTSA campaign number: 15v606000 (power train); which the mechanic linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline to file a complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

While driving on the highway my car just cut off in the middle lane. I was able to get into the emergency lane.

I was driving the vehicle and I heard something click, vehicle started slowing down, got to side of the road, put in park, then tried to go drive, nothing ,moved it to dr2,it moved, went back to park,tried going into reverse nothing, it will move in drive but not reverse.

On the highway and street my left tire shakes but my wheel doesn't then my powertrain fault.

My power steering went out while I was driving. I took this vehicle to my mechanic and he said that it was related to the power steering recall they did on this type of car. But when I put in my VIN it said this car was not recalled. So I am wondering if you guys skipped over my vehicle. I would appreciate if you would look into this. Thank you.

The car is reving high and accelerating poorly. Then the red triangle light telling me to stop safety now comes on causing me to pull over and shut car off. I turn the car back on and it drives but with same issues. Look on the carcomplaint. Com website for TSB-09-19-12 and TSB-08-24-5 which detail what my car is doing and makes it appear like there is a cooling pump recall. Ford just told me there are no recalls listed for my VIN though. The frequency of which the red triangle light comes on is increasing this month. It was every few months and now it is weekly-daily.

On 6/8/2019 while driving on highway with cruise set with my disabled son in vehicle the car pulled badly to one side. I immediately braked and it took all my strength to get us off the road. Front axle has already been replaced 2 years ago. Now dealer is saying transmission blew and is out which caused front axle to fail while driving. Regular maintenance and upkeep have been done. Built car and only driver usually city miles. 2008 with less than 60,000 miles. This is a huge safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately we almost flipped.

Takata recall well driving my vehicle lost acceleration. When I step on the gas the vehicle didn't accelerate as the rpm went up. I was coming to a stop light on city street. As I made the stop at stop-light as the light turn green I stepped on the has and the rpms went up but vehicle barely moved.

Nov 1 2018 my Mercury Mariner premier was driving down the road when the transmission suddenly quit pulling no warning lights no other warning signs it never slipped gears just quit, I noticed after letting it sit a day I tried it again and it went not even a mile and quit moving there was a recall on my model and yr vehicle in 2015 regarding transmission issues but I was never told of this.

Ford's recall "code 14s19" on 2005-2008 Mariner hybrids and escape hybrids should cover all of these hybrids but it has exceptions! Ford has issued a recall on *some* of the 2005-2008 Ford escape hybrids and *some* of the corresponding Mercury Mariner hybrids. However they are refusing to issue a recall on my particular 2008 Mariner hybrid (which is exhibiting the electronic overheating problem described in the recall where the stop safely now comes on and there is an immediate loss of power). They are refusing to fix my Mariner just because the VIN number does not match the particular manufacturing lot covered by the original Ford recall - though my SUV does fall in the date range mentioned in the recall) I am certain this recall should cover more hybrid SUV than Ford has admitted to, and since the Mariners had a very limited production run, it is less likely that there wil be a significant number of complaints due to this very serious life threatening issue - and I would like to emphasize that there have been numerous complaints about this including on NHTSA. My 2008 Mariner had a recall for power steering default sensor. I was told by Ford that the issue was recalibrated in the originial recall before I purchased the car the power steering failed again Ford will not fix it they did not change the part to solve the problem originially they just reset it on the computer. It is extremly hard to turn, but I need the vehicle for work. Got repair quotes as high as $1500 to repair, money I do not have.

Power brake booster brake system lock on highway. Power steering went out while driving no warning . Almost had accident on snow due to bad. Transmission. Transmission went out on highway. Unable to start car ignition switch.

In town, while driving 30 mph, the engine shuts down, losing power steering and power brake control.

I have 2008 Mercury marnier 1st gear starts off fine 2nd gear won't shift till it gets to 3750 rpm then shifts 3rd fine not in 4th it's giving me codes p0732 and p0734.

Power steering completely failed while operating the car, posing a danger. Transmission lurches on upshift between 1 - 2 gear while accelerating. Electrical system will not charge battery and completely fails while the vehicle is in operation on the highway, posing a danger. Vehicle may or may not restart immediately.

While driving went to pull out from red light and car would not move forward. Finally pumped gas pedal and managed to get car to go forward. Continued to do this until would not go forward or in reverse. Was able to get to empty parking lot so roll back could pick me up. Had to have transmission rebuilt and was told that the transmission had been replaced before. Truck only has 95,724 miles on it and I bought it used. Would like to know if any recalls had been issued on this vehicle.

While driving the car on a highway, the warning light chimes and displays to "safely stop vehicle". The car no longer accelerates and slows to a stop even if you don't have a shoulder to pull off to. I normally just hit my hazard lights and pull to a stop, wait a few minutes then restart the engine. This happen once a month and sometimes twice or three times in a row. If the hybrid electronics system overheats, it may shut down the powertrain, resulting in a stall-like condition, increasing the risk of a crash. There is currently a recall on this problem #14s19. Called Ford and they said my vehicle isn't a part of it even though it clearly was built in the same time and has the exact issue. Very dangerous and scary problem.

When I pulled out into traffic on my way to meijer the vehicle began to stall like it was in neutral. I was able to drive it to a stop light where I put it into park. When I took off from the traffic light everything was ok, went to meijer and turned the vehicle off. Went shopping & when I started the vehicle again eveything seemed normal. Within a mile of leaving meijer the vehicle began the same symptoms "acting like it was going to stall. " when I tried to increase the speed to get the vehicle home it would not go over 15 mph. It was like it was confused about what gear it was in. I put the vehicle in reverse to pull into a parking space and the vehicle did nothing. I turned it off and restarted it then put it in drive and pulled into a parking space.

While my college age daughter was driving to campus on Sunday 8/28/16, came to stop and when she tried to accelerate, rpm began to race erratically and car would barely accelerate. Wrench light on the dash board is now illuminated.

Speed shift forced on 2nd and 4th, the vehicle has only 77000 miles and transmission is bad, contacted the dealer about the problem and no action taken, they said the vehicle is not on a recall campaign and owner needed to do repair and if the campaign started on this problem in the future they will reimburse the repair amount, I need the vehicle on a daily basis and now I'm stock with the repairs cost of 1500 plus labor. Other mechanics were told Ford would not sell them parts for repair and only Ford could work on them. This is not right, there is something wrong with the cvt and Ford needs to own up. A $9,200 repair should not be borne by the consumer.

Towed vehicle to Ford dealer and was told only option was to replace with new transmission and that Ford would not allow to repair the transmission, only replace with new. Vehicle has 60k miles and is well maintained. Other transmission mechanics have been told that Ford will not sell them parts to repair the cvts and only a Ford dealer is authorized and can get the replacement parts. This is not right, there is something wrong with the cvt and Ford needs to own up this problem. A $9,200 repair should not be borne by the consumer. I can see over the internet that this is an on-going problem with other consumers.

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle and when pressing the fuel pedal the vehicle would hesitate to accellerate and would not accelerate at a normal pace. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who in diagnosed that the transmission was faulty. The vehcle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 60,000. Jft.

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the power train light remained illuminated and the vehicle would not accelerate. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 118,000. Ad.

Well I was at a red light and then the light turned green I pressed the gas pedal and started to go then my rpm started to go up and my Mercury Mariner did not want to go no more so I coasted to the slow lane I rev my engine while I was still drive about about 1 min in went back into gear so started to drive again the rpm went back up and then I coasted to a stop on a busy highway I immediately started to get my family out to safety so I went back to my Mercury Mariner it was in park and still running and I noticed a yellow wrench on the dash board so I put it in drive it did not move then for five min trying to get it to move it went into gear but just enough to get off the highway on to a back street so I turned my Mercury Mariner off so about a half hour went by I started it up and I notice the yellow wrench was off so then it went right into gear but about in one min it did the same thing so I called a family member and then I got it towed there so I let it sit for an hour then I started it up and it went right into gear and about one min later I had no gears but I let it run and it will go in and out of gear so now it sits at my family's house.

Have had the sensors replaced, tranny fluid flushed and replaced and gasket seal and pan replaced. Still not repaired.

I never received reimbursement for putting in a transmission. I was also never notified of any recalls on my transmission.

The contact engaged her brakes and when releasing the brake pedal the failure reoccured. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician was unable to find a failure. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,000. Sr.

I had stopped by my apartment complex office to pick up a package. I started the motor and began to back out. I then put it in drive and the steering wheel wouldn't turn. I tried to drive it slowly towards my apartment to park it. I restarted the car. Once I did this, the steering was behaving normally except when idling there was a thunking vibration to where the steering wheel was moving. I had remembered I received a recall notice which was for power steering. The technician looked up the VIN # and yes it was a recall item. I took it in yesterday and they are currently replacing the part. After doing some research, I have found that a lot of the vibration I have felt recently can be contributed to the issue with the power steering unit. Thankfully I was near home. I have made several trips between washington and northern California. In addition, I have had a problem in the mornings especially in the colder months where I am at a stop light or stop sign and step on the gas, the motor will rev up but I don't move, then a sudden kick in of the transmission. This is scary when trying to turn into traffic.

My 08' Mercury Mariner has only 46,000 miles on it and now needs a new transmission. When I got into my car and tried to put it in reverse, the car would not move backwards. It worked in drive, but I had to push my car in order to turn it around and drive to a repair shop. I was then informed that I would need a new transmission that would cost around $3600 for my car including the part and labor. I have never been in an accident and have had no previous issues with my car involving the transmission. I believe that it is unbelievable that a car with such few miles on it should need a new transmission. When I called Ford customer service they stated that they would not help me with any of these costs because there was no recall for this on my vehicle. I believe that this is an issue with this particular vehicle make and model after some research and was told by the mechanic shop that they had seen this problem many times before.

Yesterday, my wrench light came on with my 2008 Mercury Mariner. I did some research this morning and found out that there was a recall on the parts. I called a local Ford dealership and I was advised that due to the 5 year warrenty expiring along with being above 60,000. 00, I would have to come out of pocket to pay for a defected part on my truck. I am filing a complaint due to I should have been advised that there was an issue with the power train or I should have been notified to bring my truck in immediately to get this issue resolved. In which I was not notified at all. I should not be forced to pay to get my car fixed on a defected part that was sold with my car. (the power train).

Truck shows"wrench" light sometimes but not always; trucks drives as if it is in the wrong gear or as if you are trying to drive with your foot on the brake at the same time. Vehicle is an automatic but is driving like a stick-shift that needs to go into the next gear but struggling & unable to do so.
