This is an update to the complaint from June- because I have to compensate manually for the electric power steering, I’ve aggravated upper back injuries and strained hip muscles I incurred from work. I have to attend physical therapy for those injuries now, but it’s useless if my only mode of transportation prolongs my recovery. —— my 2009 Mercury Mariner’s steering wheel started locking up 3 months ago, and it’s hard to get the steering wheel and the tires to agree on one direction. I looked up the make and model to see if there was a safety recall for it and there was, but my VIN wasn’t included in the recall campaign, even though it fits the criteria exactly. ///Ford motor company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Ford escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured August 18, 2006, through September 11, 2010. The affected vehicles have a steering torque sensor that may not be able to properly detect driver steering input. As a result, the system could remove the electric power steering (eps) assist.

The pcm shorts out and fails when sparkplug and coil packs replaced this cause the steering system to fail speedometer to quit and no transmission connection.
The contact owns a 2009 Mercury marnier. The contact stated the key was hard to insert into the ignition. The power steering assist fault warning message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the failure was due to the ignition housing component. The contact called the local dealer who informed her the power steering was repaired in 2014 under NHTSA campaign number 14v284000 (steering). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 198,725.
My power steering assist is not functioning this is part of a current recall that apparently my car is not included in even though it was a recall for Mercury Mariners 06-10 and I drive an 09.
When the weather is hot (close to 100 degrees or more) and I am driving with the a/c - my vehicle on 3 occasions will not start after parking the vehicle and trying to restart it. The red padlock sign blinks and it won't start. At first it is trying to turnover but then will continually sound worse and all other warning lights go haywire. I leave the car alone for half a day and it starts up again like nothing happened. On the fourth occasion, the car stopped while driving, just a quiet shutdown and the car glided. This time it did not work for over 24 hours and then started up again like nothing happened. Multiple mechanics and also the dealership cannot figure out the problem because by the time I have it towed to shop, it works again. They did a full check on the car and cannot find anything wrong and there were no diagnostic codes. This issue happens when the weather is hot and poses a safety concern as now it is shutting off while driving and I become stranded each time. (first incident happened 8/25/18, last incident 5/14/22) total of 4.

I was making a turn and the vehicle seemed as if the steering locked up. It randomly does this and is starting to be more and more often. It has already made me run off of the road and hit a culvert causing even further damage.
Power steering goes out at regular intervals. In the same type of issue as the following recall notice 14s05/NHTSA or the electric assist system as bad.

The wrench light on the dash appeared and the power steering shut off while the car was in motion. The car still operates afterwards, but the wrench light is still on and steering is incredibly difficult especially at low speeds.
I was leaving work and driving down the highway and my power steering went out but then it came back and it kept doing it off and on . Luckily I only live 15 miles from work. Its happen before when I was in a turn but I didn't think much about it till it started doing it today thankfully traffic was light and I didn't have a accident.

The car was driving down the road (a city street, not a highway) and a triangular light came on the dash, along with a message to stop safely. The engine shut down and I had to coast into a parking lot. This had happened previously and I had paid a dealership to replace the hybrid cooling pump. I later found out that this part had been recalled and was reimbursed by the manufacturer for the original repair. The same part has failed again according to the dealership, but upon contacting the manufacturer, they refuse to replace the part again.
My SUV was part of a recall due to the electronic power steering failing. My SUV was allegedly repaired by the cheapest of the three available options (computer reset or some such process). I bought my SUV in 2020. The electronic power steering slowly started going out intermittently and then more frequently over time, but is now completely out. The dealer tested my SUV and stated that the entire steering column needs to be replaced. They claim that the problem has nothing to do with the recall, but I don't believe them. My issue is the exact same issue that prompted the recall in the first place. I should not have to pay for a failed recall repair. I think it's possible that the original dealership faked the repair, or simply chose the cheapest (but not proper) option to save themselves time and money. My shoulder is now damaged due to driving without power steering for so long. I need an honest evaluation of my vehicle and an investigation into whether or not the original dealer performed the proper repair. I would assume that the issue wouldn't come back if it had been repaired properly the first time.
The gear shift is not properly shifting. It goes from park to reverse on its own. Sometime it wont reverse and makes a loud noise. It click back and forth between gears. Ive replace the switch to see if that would work but it doesnt. Please let me know if I can do anything to fix this problem but it is the same recall 15v606000 for other vehicals of the same type.

I was driving on the interstate in traffic and had a complete loss of power steering, making it nearly impossible to pull over or get off the highway.
Vehicle's electronic power steering turned off in the middle of driving, turning on highway, this has happened 3 times, seems like when the heat is on. Recall 14s05c shows up in service records from this car. Works was done my mahopac Ford, mahopac, NY. Reflash ic and pscm. This recall was apparently addressed, but the problem has come back. I just bought this car used two weeks ago. It did not have this problem until I turned the heat on. Not sure what to do.
The vehicle will stall when it comes to a stop, mid turn, slowing down, and sometimes accelerating. Several websites show 100's of complaints from people with the same issue. It is a may safety concern because it dies at any point while driving.
Speedometer instrument cluster gauges keep going out and causing SUV to not start.
Loss of power steering 90% of driving time.
Rear hatch will not open because electric actuator has failed again, therefore the spare tire cannot be accessed on the side of the road. It's been replaced once already. This is a obvious safety issue.
While traveling approximately 35 mph, driving in a straight line on a city street in traffic, the abs abruptly applied the brakes - hard! the abs light came on and a "check brake system" warning message was displayed. Also, the electrical system shut down and the engine lost power. After about 5 seconds, power was restored and vehicle was able to proceed. This occurred approximately 8 times over a two mile distance. During the last 4 times, the engine died, lost power completely, and needed to be turned off and restarted to continue. This failure was a dangerous safety hazard. Vehicle was towed to albuquerque Lincoln Volvo. The problem was diagnosed as a failed abs module, 9l8z. The dealer replaced the abs module with a faultly module. A second abs module was installed and the vehicle was deemed repaired. The dealer did not return the defective part for analysis.
Power steering suddenly stopped working while I was driving. The vehicle is extremely difficult to navigate but I was able to pull off the road to a safe area. After shutting the car off for 15 minutes and restarting the lack of power steering remained, but there was now a message saying "power steering assist fault". This car has several other electrical problems with regard to the a/c & blower, and also the drivers side window and dome lights work sporadically.
In March 2018, I noticed the steering wheel would shake when coming to a stop sign or stop light and make a grinding sound. It continued to do this every time for a couple weeks. Then toward mid March, I was backing out of a driveway and the power steering totally went out. It stated on panel "power steering default assist. " it took extreme effort to steer the wheel to the side as the steering wheel was extremely rigid. Because it is a safety hazard to drive, it has only been driven to move car in apartment parking lot. I got this vehicle in June 2017 from a car dealer with no warranty. Ford says this VIN # is not included in recall for torque problem with power steering failure. As this is a manufacturing defect and a safety hazard, I want this vehicle VIN added to recall list. If I drive it on open road, it will surely cause injury to my family. I can't even maneuver the steering wheel.
My vehicle was covered under recall 14s05 and said recall work was done in 2014 in va under the previous owner, Ford does not have record of what "step" or part of the recall was done, there are 3 parts. Less than 4 years, the recalled part, the torque sensor in the power steering assist has faulted, which leads me to believe that it wasn't replaced under the recall. Since it's been more than 12 months or 12,000 miles they are not willing to replace the said recalled part that was originally covered. The car was in drive when the assist faulted causing steering to be very difficult and had I been driving at a higher rate of speed could have potentially been accident causing. I feel that the recall work should be extended to replacing the part since it wasn't done originally under the recall or was again replaced with a faulty sensor to fault again within less than 4 years.
Power steering completely failed while operating the car, posing a danger. Transmission lurches on upshift between 1 - 2 gear while accelerating. Electrical system will not charge battery and completely fails while the vehicle is in operation on the highway, posing a danger. Vehicle may or may not restart immediately.
Switch for ac wont blow out air. Took it to valoline to add freon. . They said, it was full. . Cold worked for 5 days then ac stopped working at hotest time of month. . . Took vehicle back and they stated, it was full still but added more freon to make me happy. . After a few days no ac and I took to a mechanics business. The owner and 4 others stated that the belt is turning maybe they overfilled it. . Told me to take it back to valoline and have them take out all freon then put amount back in but not to full. I did, worked for 2 days now again no ac. Blower worked but no ac comes out. . I cant afford anymore visits. Now as of yesterday the blower will only work on number 4. 1 2 3 nothing comes out. Please assist me with this problem. . I have been so happy with this car for 3 years. I take excellent care of everything it needs. First Ford I ever owned. . . Hope its not the last one I own if this doesnt get solved. Thank you for this site. This is my last resort. . I have had it in shop to many times concerning this matter. . Denise saftey issue here . I was going to work very foggy and I turned on heater to clear windshild no blower worked on numbers 123 but 4 would. . Cant have it running full blast always. . Ac if full but wont work with blower on. . Being hot really makes me cranky and that can cause raod rage safety issue there too. Lol lol please help me. . .
While in motion the car will stall causing me to pull off to the side of the road, turn the car off, then back on in order for it to work again. This happens every 10-15 miles and its really unsafe! I believe it is a defective throttle body and needs to be fixed ASAP before I can continue driving it.
While driving the car on a highway, the warning light chimes and displays to "safely stop vehicle". The car no longer accelerates and slows to a stop even if you don't have a shoulder to pull off to. I normally just hit my hazard lights and pull to a stop, wait a few minutes then restart the engine. This happen once a month and sometimes twice or three times in a row. If the hybrid electronics system overheats, it may shut down the powertrain, resulting in a stall-like condition, increasing the risk of a crash. There is currently a recall on this problem #14s19. Called Ford and they said my vehicle isn't a part of it even though it clearly was built in the same time and has the exact issue. Very dangerous and scary problem.
Takata recall I was on the express way in motion and the car shut down meaning that all of the gadges shut down. Then the car just coast until I could pull over without being hurt or hurting other drivers. Nothing showed up just shut down.
Steering wheel will freeze up while driving. Steel on steel horrible noise when driving. Shifter gets stuck have to put it in neutral to start it.
My 2005 Mercury Mariner premier has a problem when driving that the left and right door shows they are ajar. And it cycles back and forth across the dash board, you hear a beep then the message is displayed on the dashboard . When the car is parked and locked the alarm goes off between five and 10 times a night draining the battery. This has started about a year and half ago. I took my car into a Ford dealership on September 27,20016 to be repaired. I had the car in their car care for two and one half weeks only to find out that the part for the right side the cable and handle assembly is recalled and there is no replacement at this time and no estimated time frame for it to be available. I spent $544. 00 on a rental and $604. 39. I still do not have the problem fixed and Ford dealer says it has no time estimate when it can be repaired if any?.
