37 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/16/2015

I was driving my vehicle at a low rate of speed on a city street on 10/16/15 and as I turned a corner, about to pull into a driveway, there was a complete loss of power steering ! the vehicle was very difficult to control and it took all my strength in both arms to complete the turn and pull into the driveway safely. The vehicle was towed to crest Ford dealership in flat rock, mi and the diagnostic code they detected indicates they need to replace the entire steering column and is supposed to be covered under Ford's recall 14s05. Dave in their service department took what he described as "the first step" by sending an email to request that this repair service be performed under the recall. It was denied by Ford because a different code, also covered by this recall, was addressed by liberty Ford in brunswick OH on 5/11/15 (at which point they updated the power steering control module). I contact Ford customer service myself on 10/19/15 and was told that the "program had been closed" on my vehicle because service under the recall has already been performed. It's ridiculous that they aren't now going to service the additional problem that has occurred and is supposed to be covered by this recall!.

38 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 09/02/2015

My parents purchased a 2008 Mercury Mariner this last spring, and just started to notice that the electric power steering is cutting in and out. We took it to our local garage who diagnosed the problem (error code that came up was b1342-2f) and recommended we replace the steering column. Since that is a large expense ($800) I decided to do some research and called the local Ford dealer. They looked up our VIN and told me that there was a recall on the electric power steering and that the work for the recall on the power steering was already done. (Ford's recall number for this is 14s05) my question is since we are experiencing the same failure (meaning the fix didn't seem to last) is there any recourse for us to have Ford fix the problem now? also, how long are these 'fixes' supposed to last? the date the recall was published by NHTSA is 2014-06-05, and we are only in September of 2015. I was thinking that a recall fix should last longer than a little over a year. Is NHTSA in the process of reviewing this issue?.

39 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/29/2015

The car is parked in my office parking lot. The car alarm goes off. I can see out the window there is no one around the car. I use the remote to turn it off. Happens intermittently, a few times a day. I even took the keys out of my pocket and just have them sitting on my desk. It still happens.

40 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/22/2015

The contact owns a 2009 Mercury Mariner. While driving on an incline at an unknown speed, the vehicle suddenly decelerated and would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was pressed. The service engine light illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle stalled and was able to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle control failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 118,000.

42 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 02/23/2015

1. Outside review mirrors do not defrost. They were frozen and I was on the highway putting my life in danger because I could not see outside vehicles passing to be able to go right or left. Then a week later their was frost on the mirrors and still they would not defrost again I couldn't see other vehicles on either side of my vehicle. 2. There is a gear shifting problem as well. Whenever I take off at a stop my car kicks real hard and loud enough to scare me. I have reported this several times with the dealer that I bought my vehicle from and they cannot find the problem. They have heard it do this but cannot seem to find the problem.

43 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

Coming to a stop at a red stop light and then trying to accelerate from red to green light at an intersection my vehicle went into limp mode, it lost power. It would not accelerate pass 10mph. An engine light came on as a orange wrench light. I drove as I could and made to auto zone. They plug in the hand held car computer and it gave the code p2119. Which stands for throttle body.

44 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

Fan blower motor only worked on 3rd and 4th setting. The blower motor resistor assembly (part no. 8g1z*19a706*a) was diagnosed and replaced by dealer.

45 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

Tone ring snapped off of axle and caused the car to go into 2wd and apply the abs brakes when not actually being needed which almost ended up in rear ending a car when the failure occurred. Tone ring design needs looked it. This should not happen. Corrosion building up between the tone ring and axle seems to be what caused the force of snapping this ring. Just a poor design.

46 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/06/2014

P2112 throttle stuck. Removed throttle body 7-2-14 cleaned carbon/oil residue resulting from pcv recurc, and reinstalled throttle body, cleared codes. Driving 7-6-14 same symptoms (mil p2112 and limp home idle only) while in traffic. Idled out of traffic, shut engine off, key on engine off repeatedly tapped throttle pedal to work throttle body motor and plate. Cleared codes, drove home, pulled throttle body. Still clean with no carbon/residue or other signs of material that would obstruct throttle valve movement. Sourcing new throttle body now.

47 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 03/17/2014

While pulling away from a stop light ,an attempt to make a right turn was made. In the middle of the turn, the power steering assist quit. The turn was near impossible to complete and I almost ran over a gas station sign. After wrestling the car to a stop in a gas station I turned off the ignition and called my husband. He suggested I have the car towed to a repair shop. While on the phone I restarted the truck and the power assist resumed working. I returned home without incident. Someone is going to be killed if they are not strong enough to control a truck like this without power assist. The power assist has quit three times since and only my husband drives the vehicle now.

48 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 02/10/2014

Over the last couple weeks we have experienced a loss of power steering and an increasingly severe "shaking" of our steering wheel when it is working. We took the car to the mechanic and was told that we need to replace the entire steering column due to a failure of the electronic power steering. The part alone is $900, $1,400 with labor. . 49 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 12/04/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that all of the warning lights to illuminated on the instrument panel. In addition, the vehicle stalled and could be restarted however the failure recurred twelve times. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing and stated that the steering column cover for the ignition was fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

50 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 11/11/2013

December, 2013, I was exiting parking lot onto a main street that had 2 lanes of oncoming traffic. Halfway into the street, lost power steering but was able to drift to side of road. January, 2014 car would not go over 25 miles per hour, lost power steering. Fortunately I was near the garage that does my repairs, oil changes, etc. . March, 2014, steering wheel locked, no power steering, had to wait about a half hour until power steering returned. . . Kept turning car off and on every 10 minutes. Contacted Ford customer service 3 times by email (Jan-Mar). My last 3 cars have been Ford products but apparently brand loyalty is not valued. Replies were--sorry you are having issues-no follow up from Ford even when hey knew they were issuing a power steering recall as of April-may, 2014. I paid $2,500 in repairs from Dec'13-Mar'14.

51 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/09/2013

My Mercury Mariner 2009 has had issues for the past year in regards to the vehicle unexpectedly goes into "limp home mode" at reduced power, like while sitting at traffic light or stop sign. Also, the wrench light will go on while driving and I lose acceleration power. I can push the gas pedal down and nothing happens, the engine is still on but no acceleration power. I will coast until I can get to a safe spot to have to power it off and then restart it. This is very dangerous while driving in rush hour back and forth to work each day. The car lags when accelerating and also pumps while when coming to a stop. I do not feel safe in the car and wish I had never bought it. I can't even make a trip to the store without worrying about the wrench coming on or it going into limp mode.

52 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

I have been having a problem with my 2010 Mercury Mariner for over a month. It is stalling out at random times and then the vehicle dies. Took to dealership several times and the computer is not detecting the problem so they cant determine what to fix. The dealership says it may me the throttle body, but this is not covered in my extended warranty and is a very expensive part to replace. I am a single mother with 2 kids and this is very dangerous when we are driving down the highway at 75 mph with traffic.

53 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

While driving the vehicle's dash lights and head lamps go black for 2-5 minutes before coming back on. My car was taken to the dealer multiple times and was unable to be diagnosed. I also contacted Ford directly as this problem poses a hazard during night driving. To date there has been no resolution. While driving the vehicle will lose all acceleration, this issue happens while driving down the road posing a hazard as you have to turn the vehicle off an on again to regain control.

54 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

I was driving 65 mph on the freeway when my engine stalled. I costed to the side, turned off my car, and restarted the engine. My SUV ran normal for the next 5 miles before the same problem occurred. This time I was at a light and was able to stop and restart the engine. The engine started, but was running slow and the gas pedal was non responsive. I coasted to a side street where I turned off the engine. Once I tried to restart the engine, it took about four times longer to start than normal. I put the SUV in drive and it jumped slowly at a costing past with every fluctuation of the engine rpm pace. I would have had an accident if this would have occurred on my way home from work in traffic. Thankfully it was during the day with little traffic. The dealership seems to think it is a problem with an electronic throttle body. I will be trading my Mariner in for a different car because I do not feel safe driving the SUV. I am fortunate that my SUV stalling did not cause an accident. However, I'm sure there are others who are less fortunate. Please help by forcing Ford to recall these vehicles and replace this part before this issue causes a fatal accident. Thank you.

55 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

On August,2013 I went got my vehicle smoged . It passes good. Then the next day I see engine light air bag light. Then goes off when I stop. So I try take to a mechanic who I spend a good like almost 800 still light is on now bottom. Now the car dash board and the radio are so hot, it felt like something may cause a fire! I was very scared! I was near a Lincoln dealership who had a service center in duarte. Ca. I never knew. A pcm was a part of a tuneup! please this is a 2300! and I'm putting out another 1288!.

56 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

I was traveling along, with my daughter in the car, when it seemed to just shut off. I was only going 40mph but in a line of traffic. I pulled the car over, it was then I could tell it was sorta still running. I come to find out later it went into a ¿safe¿ mode. Since then my wife or I have barely drove it. We had a close friend check it out and it is the throttle body. I then did some research online and come to find out it seems i¿m not the only one with this problem. Is anyone out there making Ford motor company responsible for this? I called the dealership, where we purchased our vehicle new and was told there was nothing they could do, unless I paid for this. I feel this is unfair! my wife and I purchased this vehicle brand new with only 8 miles. Why should we be punished for what clearly is a defect in a Ford product? please help.

57 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/30/2013

Needs a new electric throttle due to the same issues reported in previous complaints. Exact issue referenced below. "in two recent complaints to nccc, drivers reported intermittent vehicle stalls and surges as they enter traffic from a stopped position or while driving at highway speeds. As the problem was initially intermittent, the drivers continued to operate their vehicles in this condition, eventually progressing to the point of keeping one foot on the brake while stopped and the other on the gas pedal to keep the vehicle running. ".

58 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/29/2013

I had just gotten back from a long trip, and was stopped at a red light - I barely accelerated once it turned green, and the car lost complete and total power, in the middle of the intersection. A wrench light came on. No throttle was working as much as I pressed down. The car kept snail pacing until I got to an empty parking lot where I turned the vehicle off. I turned it back on and it reved itself, so I turned it back off. Turned it back on and all of a sudden it worked again. I took it to the dealer who claimed it was the "electronic throttle body" failing and charged me $98 for the diagnostic. I decided for a second opinion, and they took everything apart to see if it was something else since the car is only 3 years old and only has 30,000 miles on it. After much testing they concluded it was in fact the "electronic throttle body," and the repair cost me $595. Before this happened, 2 or 3 days prior, I felt the car was losing power and it was hard to get it to go at it's v6 potential. Car still hesitates and feels like the engine jumps out when it stops and moves again. . . Sure enough my engine mounts now need replacing, and that's anywhere between $350-$500. Another recall perhaps? it's been doing this since day 1, and my warranty ended about 6 months ago. Go figure. . . Just when 3 years was up! sigh.

59 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/18/2013

My daughter was traveling in louisiana on business, when for no reason the SUV stopped on the interstate she phoned me in tears on the issue, she was stranded on the interstate for a short while. She got it started again after a few minutes. She drove for another few miles and it did it again. She finally made it to a dealer. The dealer ran a test that cost her 125 dollars only to tell her she had a bad electronic throttle body assembly. They informed her that the part was not available and would be days maybe weeks before they could get one. She than returned to her place of stay , that took about an hour because she could take the interstate and had to stop every few miles to restart the engine. What a huge inconvenience and frightened she would be rear ended. I hope a resolution is in the works for this safety issue.

60 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/18/2013

Description was mad with complaint no. 10525937 I had entered the wrong type vehicle.

61 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

Car went into 'limp mode" at about 25 mph and the orange wrench warning light came on. Had to stop, turned off the engine and then restarted. Warning light went off but it occurred again in about 5 miles. Went to Ford dealer the next day and they could not find anything wrong nor duplicate the problem. Problem happened again a couple of miles after leaving the dealership. I immediately returned to the dealer and they once again couldn't find anything wrong. Two days later on I-95 the car went into "limp mode" the orange light came on and I drove to the side. The traffic was backed up so I was going about 25 mph when this occurred. When I restarted the engine this time, the "wrench" warning light went off but the "check the engine" light came on and remained on. Next day returned to the dealer and this time they said they found the problem and it was the throttle body. In researching on line I found that this is occurring with some frequency and would certainly like to see Ford take responsibility for issuing a defective part. As of now it looks like I will have to pay the bill and hope that the new part is not defective also. It is a real safety issue and hopefully this will be resolved.

62 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

Vehicle electronic throttle body (etb) was replaced at veterans Ford dealership in tampa, FL due to this part severly effecting ability of the vehicle to run properly (several times). Customer paid for this repair. Sometime after 3/4/14 when NHTSA completed their investigation, we received a notice that Ford was replacing this item. Since we already paid for the repair ($381. 32) at a Ford dealership, we tried to get the reimbursement that Ford owes us. We were informed we had to have the original receipt, which to this day is still packed up in storage if we have it at all because we moved from FL to nc and are still involved in buying a new home. The bottom line is Ford (corp) is refusing to honor their agreement to reimburse customers. The craziest part of this whole dilema is that Ford has and controls 100% of the information needed to process our reimbursement, but absolutely refuses to do so without the original receipt. I could understand if we had this repair done at some unrelated, third party service facility. However, we went to a Ford dealership and they have record of completing the repair and us paying them for the repair. So again, Ford has all the information (proof) in their possession to take care of this reimbursement, but refuses to do so. I have called the customer (dis)satisfaction department at Ford corporate, but that is like talking to a brick wall as far as anyone having in common sense, accountability or decency to do the right thing (certainly any kind of good will is lacking in that organization). So here I am having to complain to the NHTSA to get Ford to do what they promised in the first place. I look forward to a timely reply letting me know you guys have this handled. Additionally, Ford should be reprimanded severly for such assinine behavior and attitude. Maybe a consumer reporter needs to get involved in all this. Thanks.

63 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/07/2013

Vehicle traveling at 70 mph on interstate engine quit and loss of steering and control. Pulled over re started happened again. And engine light went on. Re started drove to dealer later and discovered after $100. 00 diagnostic that the throttle body was not working properly . Happened when milleage was between 38-39000. They wanted me to pay over $590. 00 to replace their defective part at Ford dealership they refused to put it under any warranty or recall . I did not have it fixed. It is a danger to allow this matter not to be recalled as it has happened thousands of times in many Ford vehicles.

64 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/06/2013

On June 6th, is as going approximately 35 miles per hour when the car went into idle mode. I pulled to the side of the road and the car restarted after cranking it several times. The problem continued but only when traveling at lower speeds. I made point of traveling the back roads when possible. On the 13th of August, I was on the freeway when it happened. I was only able to travel a few 100 feet and it continued this way till I got home going the back roads again. The car has sat there ever since. My husband has been out of town for three months and returned that night. He had the codes checked and they read p2111 and p2112. He did research the problem and came up with many complaints of defective throttle body.

65 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 05/19/2013

This is the fourth time since purchasing the car at carmax in October 2012 that the car has "shut off" without warning at low speed when close to parking or driving slow--without rhyme nor reason--I had it diagnosed at carmax to no avail, then cherokee Ford to no avail (where I purchased a new battery), then at christian brothers auto where they replaced the spark plugs and coil. ( I have an extended warranty so my cost was 200dollars) the problem continues. I have done research and see the throttle body is most likely the culprit and a safety alert is on the web from consumer report and Ford forum and north carolina safety board---I am having the trottle body replaced at my expense--my daughter drives this vehicle and I want it safe! apparently this involves this model 2009-2012.

66 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

I was driving to work and my head lights went off. I have paid 3 different mechanics to fix this problem and it has only gotten worse. I even paid aamco over 500. 00 to fix this and they ended up giving me my money back. And now the whole lighting system pops on and off including back lights and running lights. My back wind sheild wiper no longer works and my door ajar light stays on. . I like my truck but I dont know how to fix this problem. I work 21 miles from my home and I work night shift. This is dangerous on the highway. I pray ever night I can get to work safely with out my lights going out on me. I cannot afford another car right now. Please help me.

67 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 01/16/2013

Vehicle shut down while driving on the interstate at approx. 65 mph, immediately losing all power. Message on dash read "stop safely now". This is a very dangerous issue. Driving on the interstate at 65 mph and it has occured 8 times since I purchased this car. Ford has repaired the car for this 3 times (in 2009, 2010, 2013), the first 2 it was under warranty, this last one the repair cost was $350. What is terrifying about this situation is that it occurs without warning and you have about 10 seconds to react, I've been very close to getting rear ended a couple of times. I was able to restart the vehicle every time, but what surprises me is that even though this situation is so serious, I did not find out until now it's so common. I will be shopping for a new car soon, I had enough. I kept the car this long because other than this issue, I really love driving it.

68 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/11/2012

On that date, I was driving home with my wife at approximately 2 pm. Suddenly, the car went off and the steering wheel went stiff. As I tried to move unsuscessfully, we went down to a slope of about 20 degrees. As a result, both of us had to be taken for emergency treatment for knocks, cuts and follow up checks. So far, it has cost us us $16,497. 00 and repair of the car us$6,853. 00. There has been other events where the car suddenly stops and the steering wheel becomes stiff. But, I don t use the car in the highway but only for shorts errands and within the area where we live. Its been a nightmare. I have changed the throtle casing module, the restraint control module, I put a rubber stop on the acceleration pedal, etc. Again, out of the accident it has been over 4 thousand dollars in trying to fix the car.

69 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/25/2011

Short in left front headlight and for changed light bulb and 10 minutes after parking my car and owning it 1 1/2 months the car blew up.

70 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 05/16/2011

If this is the wrong forum for this issue, please let me know. We purchased a 2008 Mercury Mariner new, so the car is less than 3 years old and while garage kept the vehicle mileage exceeds the new car warranty. We took the car back to the dealership and were changed $118. 00 to diagnose a problem with the backup system/sensors and were informed that the sensors were fine but the electronic device which calculates distance was bad, to replace an additional $500. 00. Why have backup system/sensors on a vehicle if the life of the electronics is so short ? if this safety device is intended to provide benefit, ours is now permanently disabled. I don't understand why "safety" equipment is not covered for longer periods of time. Regards,.
