40 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 12/29/2016

My wife and I were driving home on the interstate. We had just merged to the passing lane to allow traffic merging from an on ramp to enter the interstate a vehicle next to us was doing the exact speed as we were which was 72 mph set cruise control. I had vehicles approaching from the rear and since I was in the passing lane decided to speed up and get in front of the car beside us I pushed the accelerator on our 08 Mercury Mariner with a 3. 0l engine to the floor and the car accelerated in front of the other car, when I lifted my foot off the accelerator the car continued to accelerate. I pushed on the brake once with nothing changing the car continued to accelerate. I proceeded to pump the brake three additional times in about 1 second intervals. Finally the accelerator pedal release and the car slowed down. We preceded home without further incident. This is a very dangerous condition and has resulted in serious injuries and deaths in earlier model years of Ford escape, Mercury Mariner and Mazda tribute vehicles. I have had Ford vehicles my whole life and have been working on vehicles for more than thirty five years. This is not normal and is not the only time or vehicle this has happened to in this year there are many other similar people that have similar complaints on these Ford and Mercury SUV's on the internet carcomplaints. Com to name just one. The internet is filled with these dangerous complaints. When are you going to live up to your name and put the safety aspect first, when dealing with these to rich to be bothered by recalls auto manufacturers?.

Manufacturer recall number16s41 NHTSA recall number16v777 manufacturer has no parts to fix this issue. My vehicle has this problem. Taken to local dealer Dec 20. Dealer could not get parts. After 2 weeks I took the vehicle back unrepaired. This is a safety issue. It finally appears that Ford is going to authorize obtaining parts from another supplier, but I am still waiting. This is ridiculous. I opened a case with Ford but all they do is dump the problem back to the dealer whose hands are tied waiting for Ford to provide parts. Ford case number is cas-11363776.

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

On 1/1/2016 I was driving on 495 w in queens, NY heading back to manhattan where I live. Out of nowhere the car began jerking, a wrench light on the dash panel came on (which I never saw before) and I could tell the car was decelerating. I tried hitting the accelerator again, the car would jerk, the engine was revving but was barely moving. I knew I had to pull over and luckily I was able to navigate to the shoulder of the road. This was an extremely dangerous situation. I am a confident driver, however, a less confident or timid driver most likely would have panicked and gotten into a potentially serious collision.

56 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Vehicle surges wildly at idle speeds in traffic. Vehicle stalls out while driving regular highway speed, surges wildly while driving, rpm spikes drastically while driving and at idle. Stalls and surges both while entering traffic from a stopped position and while driving at regular pace. Struggles to crank after fueling the vehicle. Spits and sputter and shakes while at idle.

57 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/09/2014

Acts like throttle body failure. No power when accelerating but rpms go up and then surges when finally throttle works . Wrench light on.

58 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/07/2014

Car felt like it was running out of gas. We pulled off the street and shut it down and waited,we had plenty of gas. We started it back up and it seemed ok, the engine and power train lights remained on. Since I had taken it in for the recall already and we were close to southgate Ford we pulled into the service area I spoke to the service person and was told it would cost 600. 00 to fix. I mentioned the recall, he said that was just for the software we then left an went to auto zone where they put their diagnostic tool on the car and the print out read there was a problem with the throttle body. Ford dealers refuse to replace the throttle body under the recall.

59 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 09/28/2014

My vehicle suddenly stalled when I was driving and no matter how much I tried to press on the gas. . . It would not move safely. I was very lucky because this was at a traffic intersection on beechmont and eight mile. I proceeded to drive it to the enterprise parking lot albeit it was extremely slow and I had cars honking at me because of the lights on the intersection. The mechanic repair shop says it's the throttle body.

60 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/17/2014

During normal driving on the highway the engine lost power, the wrench light on the dash lit. The vehicle sputtered and suddenly decreased in speed, making for hazardous driving conditions. I moved to the side of the 4 lane highway and into the breakdown lane. I placed the vehicle in park, the engine idled roughly. I turned off and restarted the car and the symptoms were gone. A week later the same trouble returned. Please press fmc to resolve at no-cost to consumer the obvious and dangerous manufacture defect with a recall on the affected parts/system.

61 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/02/2014

Driving at highway speeds (60pmh) it would loss power and kinda limp along. I can pull off to the side of the road and turn the car off and start it bake on again an run just find after that. This has happen three time since. It is become really dangerous.

62 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/24/2014

I was driving down the highway on my afternoon comute home with my 3 yr old daughter in the back seat and my vehicle lost power and the check engine light and a wrench light came on and it would not go above 25 mph. I almost got hit in the rear of my vehicle cause I was not expecting this to happen by any means, but I was able to coast off the highway and shut the engine down for a few minutes and restarted it drove about 5 miles and it did it again.

63 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/11/2014

Loss of all power, went to limp mode. Happened after next 10 restarts in residential traffic then cleared. Engine threw p2112 code, sticking throttle body. Please issue recall.

64 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 12/31/2013

When accelerating through an intersection, my vehicle lost acceleration power and the power brakes failed. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle was slowly moved to a side street, backing-up traffic on the busy street. The vehicle was towed to a Ford dealership and the diagnosis was that throttle body needed replacing. The service cost me $503 plus tax.

65 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 12/06/2013

Was on a very busy four-lane road driving approximately 55 miles per hour; it was dark and raining. The car suddenly slowed to almost no movement, but the engine was running. Was able to drift into a lowe's parking lot safely off the highway. The engine light and a wrench symbol appeared; I cut the engine off and waited about 10 minutes and restarted. Vehicle got me to the hotel where I was staying about a 1/2 mile away. Next morning, I had someone follow me so that I could attempt to get it to the Ford dealer in princeton, west virginia. Car stalled on 5 occasions; restarted it, go a mile or so and had to restart again. The service department was excellent - they immediately took the car in (I was in town for a funeral); tech discovered it was the throttle body. It was replaced, but at a cost of $594. 85. This was the second incidence in less than 4 days with this same problem. On December 2, I took the vehicle to the local Ford garage in greeneville, tennessee, where I live. The engine light had come on and I was concerned since the manual said to see the dealer immediately. Local Ford garage cleaned out the fuel line and said I should not have any more problems. Engine light was off and I thought the car was okay. Then on December 5, drove to princeton, west virginia, and the nightmare began. It appears that the Ford motor company is aware of this problem since so many owners have complained. There should have been a recall and the problem resolved. It is extremely unsafe to be on the interstate or any road where traffic moves fast when your car goes to a basic idle and will not accelerate.

66 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/29/2013

During normal highway driving conditions, car suddenly stopped accelerating, could push the accelerator all the way to the floor and get no power. Engine did not stall out, but would not provide power. Was able to pull over and turn off car, then turn back on, and problem was gone. After another 15 miles or so it happened again. Took the car to the dealership and they reported that it was a bad throttle body and had to be replaced.

67 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/18/2013

While driving upon a roadway in our neighboring community at approximately 30 mph, my 2010 Mercury Mariner suddenly stopped traveling at speed, and went into 'limp mode'. I was able to slowly pull the vehicle into a parking lot. I called my wrecker service and they towed (flatbed) my vehicle back to the Ford dealer where I bought it. I purchased the 2010 Mercury Mariner new from the same dealer. They examined it and determined that the 'throttle body' needed to be replaced. They declined to repair it under warranty, stating that the part was no longer covered. They also stated that a recall had not been issued. I paid a total of $409. 27 for the repair. The tow bill was covered under my membership in aaa.

68 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/17/2013

Driving home from work the car went into "limp mode", pulled over to side of road, called for tow and had car taken to shop for diagnostics and repair. Shop determined it was faulty throttle body ( there were over 700,000 orders for replacements on website at this time)part was on backorder---came in, was replaced and I paid the bill of $720. 60 for parts, labor, towing and taxes. I got letter from Ford that part is now a recall item so I take the bill to kerry Ford in cincinnati, OH and they take all of my info and send me a check for $167. 85 and tell me too bad for not having work done at Ford store, that's all I am going to get. This does not even cover the cost of the part alone. So as a stranded motorist, I was supposed to think of a Ford dealership first instead of safety first and getting my car repaired.

69 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 09/13/2013

Driving to work on 1431, the car felt as though it hit a bump, lost all ability to drive. Pulled over to side of road, turned car off for about 10 to 15 seconds and then back on. At this point it seem to operate properly. Then about threee miles down the road it did the same thing again. This time there was no shoulder to pull off on, so traffic was tied up. Was traveling at about 40 mph this time. Did the same thing, turned off and then back on and seemed to work normal. Later that evening going home from work the car did the same thing, two more times before I reached home. One time as I was going from palmer to 1431 on a curve. The next time it was on a slight incline going home. The icon on dashboard was a wrench which indicates it had something to do with the throttle control. Took to dealer and they confirmed it was a defective throttle control unit, and charged $650 to repair. Beleieve that this is/was a serious problem safety wise and should have been covered by Ford.

70 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 09/11/2013

Traveling on 2 lane road at 55 mph. Engine set at cruise control speed when power was lost. Vehicle felt like it was coasting, the accelerator would not work. I was able to coast to a stop on a side street, then had my vehicle towed to the dealer for repairs. I checked web sites last night and found this to be a recurring problem with Ford escapes and Mariners. Cost of repair was $382. 37 and not covered for any reimbursement by Ford/Lincoln. Cutting off like this is extremely dangerous and places occupants at risk for serious injury.
