general problems of the 2010 Mercury Milan - part 1

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body and the throttle body injectors failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.

I have a 2010 Mercury Milan premier thats power steering went out I found out the part has been recalled on the 2011 model but not the 2010 model and it's the same exact part so now the 2011 has been recalled but not the 2010 and I'm out over 600 dollars + to fix it.

When driving the vehicle a wrench emblem appeared on my dash warning panel. This has happened twice before. In the last instance the vehicle then dropped speed from 45 mph to 5 mph and ran very roughly. I then pulled the vehicle to the curb and turned off the engine. I restarted the engine then drove home with no issue. I checked my owners manual and found the indicator was a throttle linkage malfunction. I brought the vehicle to a Ford service center. They replaced my battery but this did not alleviate the issue. Luckily for me there was little to no traffic when this problem occurred as without warning my vehicle lost power. I checked if there was a recall for this issue but found none. To me this is a safety issue that should be addressed.

Car looses all power engine shutters and sputters very dangerous! throttle body code came up with my mechanic took it to Ford dealership they will not replace it I'm scared to drive it now . Has happened 6 times this past month Ford told me a wheel speed sensor was at fault that has been fixed with no improvement of car basically shutting down . . Limp mode for safety ??? Ford ! you drive this car 70mph on the highway when limp mode igages pretty scary !! your going to kill people !.

The vehicle just slowed to a stop. I just nursed it to a repair shop!.

The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic were the vehicle was diagnosed and informed the contact that the timing chain needed to be replaced. A VIN search was performed on the vehicle and showed that there are no active recalls. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure was 127,000. Jo.

The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms as listed in NHTSA campaign number: 15v793000 (fuel system, gasoline), which she received. The vehicle was serviced by holman Ford (3641 NJ-42, turnersville, NJ 08012, 888-449-0296), but the failures recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and stated that nothing could be done since the vehicle had already been serviced. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

Rear passenger side tail light stays illuminated even while brake paddle is engaged. . . Basically I have no brake lights. . . Also fuel recalls still hasnt been done on my vehicle.

I m driving on freeway with 70 mph and all of sudden the speed reduces and unable to accelerate, wrench icon shows up.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic diagnosed that the trottle body needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was about 52,000. Fe.

Trottle acutator stuck in closed position as the car was moving about 25 mph, pressed the accelarator but nothing was happening,engine was at iddle, and was able to move to the side of the road. Started the car again and everything worked for abot a minute and then it happened again. When I got home after a few restarts I hooked up my comupter to read the obd code that came on !! it was code p2112 , witch is the trottle acutator module !! after reseting the obd code it was working fine on the driveway. I'll take it for a test drive later. It seems clear that a problem exists with the trottle acutator on the trottle body !!! a design flaw is very possible, and it presents a danger when driving on the road with a sudden loss of power and speed. A recal should be in the works for Ford !!! I have read too many complaints about the same problem. My car has 32,000 miles and is a 2010 year.

2010 Milan hybrid lost power on two occasions in heavy fast interstate traffic. Safe to pullover light illuminated, max speed of 5mph , dealer replaced 12v battery first time. 4 to six months later, same dangerous scenario and one more time trying to get vehicle to a dealer. The dealer said it was a defective electronic throttle body. The only recall was on models after 2010 beginning in 2011. The 2010 were never recalled although numerous complaints. 54000 miles on vehicle.

I was driving on 495 toward silver spring/georgia Ave. And the call just loss acceleration without warning. The engine and wrench lights illuminated on the dash. The car cruised at about 5 miles an hour. An extremely dangerous situation to say the least. I was in the middle lane and had to work my way over to the shoulder. I'm taking the car to the Ford dealership on 8/23/2016 for diagnosis. There appears to have been complaints reported to NHTSA about this problem and the case was closed without a recall. Let me tell you, this problem is not only real but extremely dangerous. Something more needs to be done.

The vehicle was not able to be restarted and had to be towed to the dealer. The technician was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The engine suddenly lost power. A engine and wrench icon showed up on the dash lights. I had to coast to the side of the road on 4 occasions. When I shut off the engine and started it up again, it ran fine again. This would be an extremely dangerous situation if this occurred when I was making a left turn with oncoming traffic. I took my vehicle into o'meara Ford at 7:00 a. M. On October 13, 2014. They indicated they were looking at the throttle body and would need to keep my vehicle overnight.

Electric throttle body issues.

While accelerating, the car began to jerk violently and came to a stop, and shut off. The car was unable to run or idle. It was towed to a Ford dealership where they diagnosed a failed throttle body and it was replaced. I was on a residential road so no injuries, had I been on the highway, things would have been different.

The vehicle operated normally once it was shut off and restarted. The failure occurred multiple times. The engine warning indicator also illuminated sporadically. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

Immediately after entering a main highway, the engine seemed to die yet idled around 1000 rpm. The dash lights came on, the engine sputtered, but wouldn't increase speed and vehicle wouldn't move more than 2 or 3 miles per hour. After getting it off road and turning ignition off for a couple of minutes, it started and drove fine.

Takata plus numerous other recalls: powertrain control module, "contamination on internal motor contacts of the throttle body" rear tail lights replaced, arm rest replaced as it became detached, battery replaced at 23k miles and does not hold a charge and consistently needs to be recharged. This happened at a light in a major and very busy intersection. I went and the car did not move and almost got rear-ended. It additionally over excelerated on its own. I had to get my car towed to dealer as the car died due to failed throttle.

I was driving about 40 miles per hour and then all of the sudden the car stop working properly. The wrench lit up on the dashboard. I decided to pull to the side and turn off the car. After turning off the car, I turned it on again and I was able to drive for about 4 miles. Then, when it was time to drive it up a hill, it did the same.

I was driving on a highway, felt a jerk in the engine, and was no longer able to accelerate. The engine continued to run and all electrical components (lights, radio, etc. ) were operational, but the car would only decrease speed so I stopped the car on the shoulder. I noticed that the engine stuttered considerably while idling and would not respond to the throttle. The wrench warning light was illuminated on the dashboard. I shut the engine off and called for a tow truck. The tow truck driver arrived after 20 minutes and was able to drive the car onto the flatbed. Some ability to drive forward had returned but I was wary. I had the car transported to a Ford dealership and the service technician identified the throttle body as the culprit ($425 to repair). I've learned subsequent to my experience that this problem is quite common with 2009 - 2011 Mercury Milans. The throttle body repair is covered for 2 years. I'm concerned that this problem may repeat.

I turned the corner today and my car suddenly lost power and sputtered and was difficult to steer. I managed to roll to the curb and front end started shaking so I immediately turned it off. Turned the ignition again and it struggled to start but did and then immediately repeated the above scenario. Fire station was on the corner and luckily three firemen saw what happened and drive down to help push my car into a culdesac. Waited 90 min for a tow to the dealer and now stuck with paying for a rental. I paid for an extended warranty and will be very upset if this isn't covered! very dangerous and I don't know that I'll feel safe driving this car anymore! a recall needs to be issued!!!!!.

While driving the wrench indicator came on. The engine was still running but the gas pedal didn't change the rpms. Coasted to the shoulder and turned the car off and back on. Restarted normally. The car did this six times in two weeks. Replaced the fuel injector throttle body and the problem has not returned.

Driving down rural highway traveling at 58mph and suddenly lost all power and car started bucking. Able to pull off and coast to stop. Rough idling. Wrench light came on when this happened. Turned off car and restarted 5 min later. Wrench light went out. Proceed to drive and approached 58 again incident happened again. Same symptoms but now engine light came on. Turned off car and waited over 15 min. To restart. Restarted and wrench light went out but engine light remained on. Able to drive home on shoulders at speeds not above 40 mph. Called dealership and not covered under drivetrain/emissions standard manufactures warranty. Need to diagnose it in shop at labor rates. No money.

I was driving on a local road. Suddenly the car lost power and the wrench light was on. It could only go very slowly before I parked it on the roadside. I waited for several minutes and started the engine, then everything seemed just fine and the wrench light went off. After the trip I tried to connect obdii code reader but cannot get any error code.

Driving freeway at 77 mph when vehicle suddenly started slowing down. Managed to get car over to shoulder of road and tried to get off ramp but wouldn't make it. No lights came on and felt like it was still running at idle. Stepped on gas but wouldn't accelerate in drive or park. Shut vehicle off and started twice before I could get response from stepping on gas. Then took off like nothing wrong. Very dangerous and lucky traffic was light. Had one other incident with car doing same thing but was sitting at traffic light.

First time this happened I was pull out into a 4 lane road and the car just shook and had no power. 2nd time I was going 70 on highway and the car lost all power. Almost had semi in rear end. 3rd time I was on side street at 4 way stop. Car lost all power after going. All times the wrench light came on then the engine light. Had 2 mechanics look at it and said bad throttle. This is an expensive part not cover any longer. Seen all complaints on it. Should be recalled dangerous.

Driving approximately 30 mph, the car coasted to a stop and the wrench showed on the dashboard. Waited a short while, restarted and it was okay. Did notice some lurching and the car felt like it was in the wrong gear, prior to the second incident on 10/07/20. Driving through an intersection at 30 mph, wrench showed on dashboard and car slowed to a crawl. I had to make it through the busy intersection and off ramp from a highway in order to safely get the car off the road. I could have been rear-ended both times, to say nothing about the fear of your car just conking out in the dark at 5:30am. The 3 year/36,000 mile warranty expired may 27, 2013. . . And my current mileage is 35,581 miles!!!!!!!!!! 111 days over the months and 419 miles under the warranty. . . . So, I am paying around $300+ to have this fixed. With all the exact complaints as happened to others, I am surprised Ford did not send a notice to owners to get it fixed or face the potential of being involved in a crash. . . Thank you.

At dusk on Saturday september14,2013 traveling north bound on 6 lane interstate I-55 in far left lane at 67 mph with cruise control on the car began to slow rpm returned to idling speed under 800 rpm and was unresponsive to accelerator pressure. The traffic was heavy and I was lucky to be able to move across lanes and reach the shoulder before car had slowed to 5 mph. The wrench light came on. Shut off the car restarted it and accelerator was responsive began to accelerate to merge back on to highway and again lost power. Shut off car again and accelerating very slowly was able to reach an exit about 1 mile away before car again lost power. Called for a tow back home as vehicle was unsafe. Car taken to dealership September 16th for repair and the throttle body needed to be replaced. I learned on line that this seems to be a common problem with certain Ford and Mercury products but there has been no recall to fix this defective part which puts the driver and passenger in grave danger when the throttle body malfunctions . Luckily I was in a fairly populated area and cell phone service was available. I fear what could have happened if traffic had been even heavier or been in a more remote area. These products should be recalled as they present a serious safety issues for drivers.

Driving 2 weeks ago, going 45 mph and the accelerator stopped working. Engine was running and I could still safely pull it over to the side of the road. I turned the vehicle off and then back on and it worked again. Since there were many areas of non-safe roads to pull over, I decided to have it towed home. It has driven fine ever since, until today, going 55mph, on the interstate, accelerator stops working. I safely pulled over, turned off and restarted engine. I safely drove to my nearest Ford dealership where they say it is the throttle sensor. Why is this not eligible for recall yet as I read these many, many pages of posts on the same thing? I have to wait until November for the part as it is on backorder. No safe car to drive until then.

While driving on interstate at 70 miles per hour, the car jerked and the car immediately decelerated. The throttle warning light came on and we had to maneuver through multiple lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder. The car was idling very rough. Parked the car and turned off the ignition. Restarted the car and it ran fine for 2 days, when it occurred again, this time we were driving at 40 miles per hour. It has since occurred 5 more times, mostly at highway speeds, during rush hour. This has occurred both with the air conditioner running and when it was off. We have come very close to being rear-ended multiple times, we were not in safe situations and this is our only vehicle. I am unable to afford a rental car and the dealership will not provide us with a safe vehicle.

On at least 4 separate occasions, we were driving (two times going about 60 mph, the other two times about 30 mph) and the engine seemed to seize up or would lose acceleration. The wrench light comes on each time and we are not able to accelerate. We had to coast to the side of the road (extremely dangerous on busy highways to get over to the side of the road with no power). Once to the side of the road, we turned the car off and waited a couple of minutes. Once we turned the car back on, it seemed to work properly again. We took the car to a Ford dealership to have them look at it. The error code did not register so did not know what to fix.
