36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

On August 30th, 2013, the vehicle engine would not run over 2000 rpm during a drive at 40mph no matter how hard push the gas paddle. After pushed the brake, slowed down and stopped the vehicle, engine still would not run over 2000 rpm. Then I put the shift in parking, turn off engine (using key), restart it, the engine had choke sound and would not run over 1500 rpm. After that a gentle man helped me to park my car in his driveway. I called the dealership and had the tow truck towed the vehicle. When the incident happened, it had me, my wife and 2 children in the car, and happened when I drove the vehicle across the railroad cross. After 4 days including weekends, the dealership target the problem is the throttle body assembly.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

Was driving vehicle to work and was only going 35 mph as I had just pulled out of my drive way. All of the sudden I lost all acceleration. It was like my car was stuck in neutral. The wrench light came on the dashboard. I pulled over, put the car in park and turned my car off. When I restarted my car a few minutes later, the wrench was gone and the problem was resolved. I called the dealer and it is going there tonight. They informed me that this is an issue with the 2010 Mercury Milans. They replaced the throttle body last week on the same make, model, year. As I do more research I see that this is a common problem. If that's the case, why isn't this being recalled? I am just thankful I wasn't on a busy highway and that I have the extended warranty.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2013

I have owned this vehicle for the past year and a half. There have been times when initially putting the vehicle into drive or reverse, that I would notice a surge, but nothing more than that. And nothing I thought anymore about. Yesterday the car drove a couple of blocks normally, then started the same surging but this time the surging did not stop and I had to have the vehicle towed to a dealer. They told me the throttle body was stuck open and it has to be replaced.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2013

I was on FL turnpike at 70 mph, traffic very heavy . I lost power and had to coast to the shoulder from left lane . Almost got ran over ,but thank god I didn't . I cut the motor off. Restarted it . I got my speed up to 70mph . It surged a few times . Ran ok too home . This could be a life or death thing . I wonder if anyone has been hurt because of this . I will call Ford today and get it fixed .

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

While driving on the freeway at 55mph the orange wrench symbol lit up on the dashboard and the car started to lose power. The engine kept running, but there was no response when I pushed on the gas pedal. I was able to coast to the side of the road. I turned the car off for 5 minutes and then restarted it and the power returned enough to get me to a Ford dealer.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2013

I was passing another car. I began to increase my speed. The reading of my speedometer began to decrease & my car began to stop pulling, as if it had lost its energy. I pulled over to side of road. Pressed on the gas pedal to idle up car. Nothing happened. Turned car off & back on. Car began to drive normal for about 5 days. Then it happened two more times in one day. Next, I took it to a Ford dealership. They stated it would take about $520 to repair. I thought my platinum warranty would cover this but, unfortunately I was told it wouldn't. I just purchase this car in Feb 2013. Today's date is August 16,2013. . . . Not a happy customer!!!!.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

While driving 50 mph on a highway, the vehicle suddenly without warning loss all propulsion and started to sputter violently. I noticed the "wrench" light indicator was illuminated and luckily coasted with no propulsion to a safe area on the highway shoulder to pull over. I shut the engine off for a minute and restarted vehicle as normal and no "indicator light" had illuminated. The vehicle appeared to be operating as normal at this point. Later I had the codes pulled for the incident on my vehicle and was told it indicated a throttle body failure. This occurred 3 times over the last several weeks. After doing a search on the internet, I found numerous incidents of the exact same description I have here. There must be an inherent defect of the part used in these vehicles.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

I've had multiple issues with the Milan throttle body for over a year. Everytime I take it to the dealer they say the computer just needs reprogrammed. After I leave the dealership my car usually has a hard faluire just like it did before (loss of power, engine running rough, car rolls to a stop). I can completely turn the car off and turn back on and it runs fine again for a while and then does it all over again. The dealership will only keep reprogramming the computer. They have also replaced the throttle body 2 times but after about 100 miles it starts all over again. Ford has refused to do anything other than what the dealership can find which is only what the codes say (reprogram computer or replace throttle body). I'm not going to keep taking my car in every week to get reprogrammed. Ford has refused to give me a loaner car to use until they fix it. I've taken multiple days off work and arranged for other transportation for the previous work. However, enough is enough. I can't keep taking my car back for some that Ford knows needs fixed. This is clearly a significant safety issue. I travel a lot on highways and interstates and when I lose power I've had some close calls will accidents (re ended) and trying to get to a shoulder to pull off and restart car. I can no longer use my car to drive my kids around due to the safety concerns of being hit during a failure or stranded. I've made this known very clearly to Ford but they don't seem to care. If they do they are not acting on it. I would hate for something terrible to happen before they fix it. I'm not only concerned for my family but others that may be having similar issues with their car. All I'm asking for is for Ford to recognize this is a very real and serious safety concern. They need to look a lilttle deeper at the issue. I just want a safe car to drive until they can fix it.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2013

Driving on freeway at 70 miles per hour. Car lost power, the wrench symbol lit up on the dash, however ignition did not turn off. I shut off the ignition and when I restarted the car the wrench symbol was not lit up any more and the car was normal again. This has happened again 2 days ago.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2013

Engine goes limp. Throttle body control light comes on. Ford has replaced the throttle body control twice and the problem keeps coming back. Ford will not consider any other problems and keeps wanting to replace the throttle body control. Most often happens when in reverse going up a hill. If I place the car in park and turn off the engine, then re-start, the engine is no longer limp. This problem has occurred over 6 months, multiple (>20) times.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2013

Driving 65 mph on highway and car lost all power and yellow wrench light illuminated on dash. With car in limp mode pulled over to service lane. Car towed to local Ford dealer. Dealer replaced defective battery but found no codes stored in computer. Dealer test drove vehicle and reported no problem. Three days later same incident (loss of power and wrench light). Shut vehicle off and restarted it and engine had normal power l with wrench light extinquished. Drove vehicle to local Ford dealer and left it there for more diagnostics and repair. Very dangerous condition and feeling for all engine power to be gone unexpectedly.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2013

Throttle body defect -- the problem began July 14 and happened several times. It was finally fixed by July 31. The vehicle began to lose power, mostly after stopping at an intersection and making a turn to the right or left. It happened once while driving straight and slowing down for a school zone. In most cases, I was able to coast to the side of the road, turn off the car, and restart. The wrench light came on in each incident. Thankfully, I did not have to go onto a highway before I was able to get the car to the dealer for repair. After they figured out what was wrong, it took about 2 weeks to get the part. It was very frightening for the car to stop in the middle of an intersection, especially when turning left! this is a potentially very dangerous defect, and these cars should be recalled so that the company is responsible for the repair. Most of my driving is done at village speed limits of 25 to 30 mph. Even at those speeds, it is very frightening for the car to suddenly stop in the middle of an intersection. I am still very hesitant to take the car out on the highway. Even after repair, it sometimes feels like it hesitates and might lose power.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2013

While driving home from work on the highway at 65mph my car just stopped throttling and lost power dropping me to like 5mph the lil wrench light came on on the left then went off yet I still had no power. So I immediately turned on the hazzard lights and tried to make it to the side of the road through traffic and turned the car off after a few minutes I tried to start the car and it came on like normal to my surprise so I started to drive only to have it happen again and again before making it home. I literally just purchased the car 2 months prior and its been at the dealership, as they try to talk to Ford about the problem and how to get it corrected for the past month!.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

I had just pulled out of my driveway this morning and began to accelerate, up to about 20 mph, when all of a sudden I lost total power. I looked down at the dash while steering the vehicle over to the side of the street, and noticed the "wrench" light was lit up. I immediately shut the car off, and got out my manual. The manual said the light indicated a transmission/power train/awd issue. I thought I would attempt to start the car again, and see what it would do. I restarted the vehicle, and the wrench light was no longer went, and I had power when I put it in gear. I took my chances, and went ahead and drove it work, hoping it was just a fluke, but decided I would investigate to see if others had experienced the same issue. I came across the entire listing of others who were experiencing this issue so thought I better immediately get it to the dealer and put on diagnostics. I explained to them what I thought the issue might be, the throttle body problem I had read about. They put it on diagnostics, but the only code which came up was a p0456, saying I needed to replace a valve--this code is indicated by the "service engine" light, and not the "wrench". He said they could find no codes for the "wrench" light. I told him that was strange, because the wrench light came on when I lost power. He told me the p0456 could make the car have the same types of issues. I told him I had been driving with the p0456 code for an extended period of time, and it had never affected the performance of the vehicle, so I didn't understand why it would do it now. I feel like this is the same type of issues others are experiencing, but the service manager told me previously when they saw the throttle body issue, there was always a code. Not sure why there is no code showing up, but that also seems to be common. Guess I will take my chances driving at this point.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2013

I was driving about 45 mph and felt a jerk motion and lost engine responses to gas pedal. The check engine and the wrench lights came on. I managed to pull it over on the road shoulder and stopped engine and restarted it. I continued to drive and this happened again in 2 miles. I stopped and restarted engine and drove home carefully. I did a research online and found this might be caused by the engine throttle body issue complained by a lot of Mercury 2010 onwers. I called a Mercury/Lincoln dealer and they asked for $800 to fix it if this was a throttle body issue. They also told me there is no recall on this problem.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Electronic throttle body stuck open and vehicle went into "limp mode". I was forced to coast to the side of the road, and shut off the vehicle. After a few seconds, I restarted the vehicle, and within five minutes, the same thing happened. I have had the car parked ever since because I feel that this is unsafe, as when this occurs, I have no ability to accelerate, I just have to hope that the cars behind me are paying attention.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2013

I was driving to work with the cruise control set at 55mph. The car suddenly lost power and throttle response. There was a wrench warning light lit up on the instrument panel. Had no choice but to pull the car over to the shoulder. I turned off the car and restarted it. The wrench light disappeared and I had throttle response. I drove it 3 more miles down the highway and the car did it again. I pulled to an off ramp and took the car by city streets back home. I later took the car to my fathers shop where they hooked up a handheld 'scanner' to it and was unable to pull the wrench light code. I tooled the car back home and parked it and started driving my truck. I had my mechanic buddy bring his mac tool scanner to my house and we hooked it to the car and he was unable to pull the code. So we drove the car with the scanner hooked up and waited for the car to act up again. It acted up again on the highway. We pulled over and got a code saying the "tac is stuck open". I believe it to be a bad throttle body assembly. I researched this on google.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2013

Driving my 2010 Milan at a speed of 50mph, I felt a sudden shake and loss of engine power. The car slowed down and I was able to get to the side of the road after slowing down one way traffic behind me. The engine & wrench light came on and felt like the car was going to automatically shut off, I quickly turned off my ignition. I waited 10 mins and the car started, made it almost to my house until it gave out on me again, and again. I called the dealership where I purchased the car 7 mo ago (used), and they said to bring it in. I had previously complained to the dealer after 2 days of purchase that the car was vibrating, which they looked at it and said it was ok. Im surprised they didn't pay attention to this the first time around. I will be bringing my car to my mechanic to have it checked. Not sure what he will say or find, but I will update this info. I hope the manufacturer will read this info and see that there is obvious a big problem with this. Too many complaints, now something has to be done! I don't feel safe in my own car now. . .

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2013

While driving at approximately 45 mph, I lost throttle response, the engine assumed idle rpms. Fortunately there was a place I could pull over and call for a roll back to take the car to the Ford dealer. The throttle body assembly was the culprit and was subsequently replaced.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2013

While driving on the highway 60 mph without warning the wrench light illuminated and the vehicle lost power. I had no engine control. Was able to shift into neutral and pull over safely onto the shoulder without being rear ended. Engine exhibited rough idle approximately 800 to 900 rpm. The car was in a limp mode. The gas pedal had no effect. Turned the ignition off and restarted the vehicle wrench light turned off and was able to drive the vehicle normally for 5 miles before the wrench light illuminated and the vehicle lost power. I was able to drive the car home. Connected a scan tool to the obd and no codes were present. The following day driving with the scan tool connected at 40 mph the same symptoms occurred. The scan tool registered code p2111 throttle actuator control system stuck open. Fortunately I was able to pull safely. Mentioned the issue to the local Lincoln dealer and was told this is a common problem with this vehicle and the throttle body assembly needs to be replaced. Was told that the part in on national back order and is not available. This is not acceptable. The problem occurred 6 times within a 10 day period. This car is not safe to drive. The vehicle should be recalled without hesitation and the safety issue resolved.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

While driving 50mph going up a hill the car lost all power and the wrench symbol came on. Got pulled over to the side of the road after almost being hit twice. Turned the car off and waited 5 min. Restatred the car and it ran fine. Then 2 days later the same thing happened. Took it to the dealer and it coded out as the throttlebody. Well guess what they are on national back order with no estimated date of delivery. So here I sit hurry up and wait.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

Car died multiple times on highway. I pulled over each time, turned off key, and restarted the car and proceeded. Dealer said it was a fuel pump. Replaced fuel pump. Car still dies. O'reilly's says it is the throttle body. I am having trouble finding the part. Car is not safe and I need it fixed or replaced.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

The first time this problem occurred was at a stop sign. The car engine idle became irratic, the engine light came on, and when I tried to pull away from the stop sign the car would not respond to the accelerator. Pulled to side of road and turned off the engine, waited approximately 2 minutes and then restarted. The engine ran fine. The second time this problem occurred I was driving at 40 mph. The car engine speed became irratic, then the car lost power and would not respond to the accelerator. Pulled to the side of the road and turned off the engine, waited approximately 2 minutes, and then restarted. The engine ran fine. Took the car to my mechanic who read the engine codes and told me I need a throttle body.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

The first incident occured when I was driving down the road with the cruise control at about 60 mph and the car would jerk and then would loose power and the check engine and the wrench light came on. The car would be in idle mode and I would have to stop and turn the car off and wait a few minutes before I try to start it again. The second is incident was basically the same only at a different location. The third I was in town going about 40 mph when the car jerked again and went into idle mode. The next few time that it happend I had a very hard time getting it started and moving again. Once I did get it started I would only be able to go a couple of blocks before the car would jerk and go into idle mode. I was lucky to get it to the Ford dealer without having to have it towed.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

The car loses accelerating power at random time and speeds. It has put me in a dangerous spot more than once. Car will lose power in heavy traffic. Car is currently in the shop and has a repair time of 2 to 4 weeks due to the unavailability of the part(enormous backorder).

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2013

As I was driving the car suddenly stopped and wouldn't go forward. After numerous attempts to restart it it finally would go again, but only about a quarter mile before shutting off again. I took it to a mechanic and they said it was codes p2111 and p2112 (the throttle body).

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2013

While at highway speed using cruise control on a slight upgrade, engine suddenly lost power and returned to idle and wrench warning light illuminated. After stopping, it was noted that engine was still running at idle but there was no throttle control. After ignition was shut off for a few minutes, vehicle was restarted and throttle contral was found to be normal. Dealer diagnosed likely problem as throttle body, which would be covered under drivetrain warranty but Ford subsequently advised it was not covered. Further, owner was advised part was on indefinite nation-wide back-order with no known availabilty date but that vehicle was driveable in the meantime with the risk that problem could recur with increasing frequency.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2013

While commuting to work on the highway, the engine started bucking and hesitating, then went into an idle. I was able to pull over on the shoulder, shut the engine off for about 20 seconds. When I restarted it, it took longer to actually start. I drove for another 5 minutes and it happened again. This time I pulled over, turned the engine off and waited a couple minutes before restarting. I was able to drive to the dealer on side roads at no more than 35 mph without another incident. The mechanic told me the throttle body needed to be replaced and it is on backorder until mid-July - 5 weeks away! furthermore, since it is not on recall, they won't pay for a loaner.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2013

I was driving when all of a sudden the engine shut down leaving me stranded. Didn't want to take any chances so had it towed to Ford garage for repair. They said it was the throttle body and it would be 200. 00 for part plus labor and diagnostic charge . This is a 2010 come on Ford !!! as a longtime Ford owner I am very disappointed. This was the second occurrence ,the first time it started up and I was able to go on my way.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

I was driving my car with three children in the backseat at 65 miles per hour. When the car goes into limp mode while crossing a highway with on coming traffic. This could of killed my kids and myself and possibly someone else. This is the worst car I have ever bought. Very upset.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2013

The car behaves as if it was suddenly put into neutral. When you hit the gas the engine revs, but the transmission does not engage. The wrench and engine lights come on, and the car will sometimes sputter like it is going to shut off completely. The only way to get the car to function normally is to stop the car and turn it off and back on. I have had this happen on major highways and other busy roads. The problem is unpredictable. A mechanic has determined this to be a problem with the throttle body, but the part is on national back order. My car is un-drive-able.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2013

This is the first time this has happened but it happened twice in the same day. When driving the vehicle we experienced the "limp home mode" problem. I can see this has been well documented and the investigations are ongoing. Here's an additional problem with this event, we never got an indicator light of any kind on the dash. We took the vehicle in for service and the dealer was unable to retrieve any errors at all off the computer and they were unable to recreate the problem. Needless to say they were unable to take any corrective action. I pose this question, why when the vehicle obviously detected a problem to go into "¿¿limp home" mode would it not record the error in the computer? why would the dealership be unable to see it?.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2013

Vehicle randomly sputters then the throttle completely stops working (dangerous condition at speed) and I have to coast to the side of the road while it is constantly sputtering and then have to put it in park, turn off the ignition and then turn it back on which appears to reset it. Took it to dealership over a month ago and they are still waiting for the part (on back order). Called Ford and they finally filed a case number, but still could not give me a date for when the part will be available. Fyi yesterday it happened about 7 times going to work and another 6 on the way home.

69 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2013

I was driving at 50 mph and pull out to pass another card accelerating to 55 mph. The car lurched and started to lose power. I thought it was temporary but it continued to decrease to 40, 30, 20 and 10 mph which I pull over to the side of the road to prevent a hazard on the highway. I called aaa for a tow which arrived about an hour later. The next morning I decided to try and start the car. The wrench light was off and it started but I did not drive it. The next day which is Monday I decided I was going to chance it to take it to the dealer 30 miles away. It actually made it there and the diagnostic done bythe dealer came up with no repair codes for the vehicle, subsequently, I picked it up and drove it home at the end of the day. On Tuesday, it started up and one mile from the house, it clunked out again and lost power. Again I called aaa to tow me to the dealer. I guess because it was a recent occurence, the code showed up in the diagnostic so they claim it is fixed by replacing the throttle body assembley. It has driven well for one day and I hope it continues. Is this basis for a recall. Please advise.

70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2013

While driving down a straight stretch of road at a steady 45 mph the vehicle suddenly lost power and the engine dropped to idle. Accelerator did not have any effect on engine rpm. Coasted to side of road and stopped. Proceeded to turn off vehicle and restart, accelerator response returned to normal.
