Stop at red light and the car refuse to accelerate. Had to coast to the side of the road. When car is cut off and turn back on it will run for a little while and does the same thing again. Kids in the car on the side of the road. When I first got the car the transmission went out, had it less than 2 wks. Now this is happening, cost over 600. 00 dollars for something that is manufactured screw up. I need my car to get kids to school and work. All these complaints about the same problem needs a recall very quick before someone gets into an accident.
Intermittent problem which occurred at variable speeds (25 mph, 40 mph, 60 mph) with rapidly increasing frequency in the week before the throttle body was replaced. While driving, the engine seemed to shift out of gear. However, there was no increase in rpm in response to the accelerator. Pulled to side of road with very low rpm, the vehicle was turned off and then restarted each time without problem.
At dusk on Saturday september14,2013 traveling north bound on 6 lane interstate I-55 in far left lane at 67 mph with cruise control on the car began to slow rpm returned to idling speed under 800 rpm and was unresponsive to accelerator pressure. The traffic was heavy and I was lucky to be able to move across lanes and reach the shoulder before car had slowed to 5 mph. The wrench light came on. Shut off the car restarted it and accelerator was responsive began to accelerate to merge back on to highway and again lost power. Shut off car again and accelerating very slowly was able to reach an exit about 1 mile away before car again lost power. Called for a tow back home as vehicle was unsafe. Car taken to dealership September 16th for repair and the throttle body needed to be replaced. I learned on line that this seems to be a common problem with certain Ford and Mercury products but there has been no recall to fix this defective part which puts the driver and passenger in grave danger when the throttle body malfunctions . Luckily I was in a fairly populated area and cell phone service was available. I fear what could have happened if traffic had been even heavier or been in a more remote area. These products should be recalled as they present a serious safety issues for drivers.
Driving 2 weeks ago, going 45 mph and the accelerator stopped working. Engine was running and I could still safely pull it over to the side of the road. I turned the vehicle off and then back on and it worked again. Since there were many areas of non-safe roads to pull over, I decided to have it towed home. It has driven fine ever since, until today, going 55mph, on the interstate, accelerator stops working. I safely pulled over, turned off and restarted engine. I safely drove to my nearest Ford dealership where they say it is the throttle sensor. Why is this not eligible for recall yet as I read these many, many pages of posts on the same thing? I have to wait until November for the part as it is on backorder. No safe car to drive until then.
Driving at highway speeds vehicle stalls out without warning. When attempting restart engine light and "orange wrench" light turn on. Vehicle does eventually restart.
Car suddenly stalled in intersection with cross lane traffic and on mass transit trolley track. Move to other side of intersection and restarted fine, then stalled again on highway multiple times. Pulled vehicle over each time and it restarted, yet stalled again after a short amount of time. Check engine light was on steady (non-blinking). Had vehicle towed to Ford dealership would indicated the throttle body was bad and must be replaced.
I was driving on the northway preparing to get in the right lane to exit and I lost all speed, no acceleration was possible but I still had radio/a/c, etc. I was able to get over and stop the car and when I put it in park it "sputtered" until I shut the engine off entirely. I waited a few moments and turned the engine back on and it started fine and then drove fine the rest of my drive. When I got back to work I researched this problem online and was surprised at the number of complaints for the same issue. Everyone had taken their car to a dealership or mechanic and could not figure it out. No warning lights came on in the dash. Finally after reading so many of the same complaints one car owner stated that a diagnosis resulted in code p2111 (faulty throttle body). I'm concerned about driving this car and having it happen again. I drive on a fast 3 lane highway about 20 miles each way to work and it's not always very easy to get over to safety. After seeing this has been investigated in another state I am hopeful it results in a recall so this problem can be properly addressed and fixed. Please help!.
This has happened to me many times over the last month at least 12 times. This occurs at various speeds, the car will stall or nearly stall. I am unable to acceleralte. I have to coast to a safe location turn the key off put the car in park and restart the car. Luckly the car has restared everytime. The wrench warning light comes on after the near stall, but goes off after I restart the car. When I come to the stop the engine seems to be trying to run but has no power and the idle is very rough. I went to the dealer and they said it sounds like the throttle body. This seems to be a know problem but I don't see a recall on it? when it goes into the near stall I have no acceleration and puts me in a very dangerous position as I try to jockey to a safe location with no power.
The car loses power while driving, the wrench light comes on and then I have to pull over to the side of the road, it has also happened on the highway which is scary? also the car sometimes has an idle problem, like its trying not to stall, but causes the car to jump a little while at stop lights. Also when I get gas, the car does not want to start, but if I leave the car running while getting gas the car is fine.
Traveling to work on ih35n in san antonio when all of a sudden I lose all power and the car seems to stall, I turn on my hazards and make my way to the shoulder while praying the other traffic moving at speed doesn't plow into me. Once on the side of the road the car is shuddering and surging forward, restarted the car and everything seemed fine, not even a "check engine" light. Same day on the way home from work (ih35s near hwy 281 interchange) and the engine stalls again, at speed on the interstate but even worse now because of the increased traffic that needs to be dodged while I get the car onto a raised shoulder. Restart the car and this time a "cel" I drive to autozone for a code check and it's p2111 stuck throttle body. Sunday night car starts stalling every 50-100 feet on a frontage road of ih10 near callaghan while cresting a hill and no clear sight lines, luckily I was not rear ended. Managed to nurse it, surging forward suddenly and sputtering to a creep, into a la quinta hotel parking lot and await a tow.
Driving to work one morning my car appeared to stall without warning on the incline of a viaduct. It slowed dramatically without me braking, so there were no brake lights to warn other drivers. I was fortunate the driver behind me was paying attention and did not run into me. I made an emergency maneuver to get off the road, and called aaa for a tow. While on hold with aaa, I restarted my car. It appeared to be working normally, so I went to work without incident. Later in the day my car seemed to stall again on the way to lunch. This was in a remote area with no other traffic. Again it restarted, and worked fine on my return to work. While driving home it happened a third time in a construction zone. I had to pull over near huge rollers that were leveling newly laid asphalt. Luckily it started again and I merged back into construction traffic and drove home. I called the Ford dealer I bought the car from. They told me over the phone it sounded like another bad throttle body. I got a ride to work the next day, and took it in as soon as I could get an appointment. The Ford dealer replaced the throttle body, and I have had no problems since.
I was driving on the interstate at 72 miles per hour in my 2010 Mercury Milan when the car lost all power. I was able to coast to the shoulder without interfering with other traffic. It was very frightening and I was very fortunate that traffic was not close and I was able to manuever off the road safely. Since this first episode my Mercury Milan has done this another 3 times.
When trying to accelerate my car chugs and feels as if it wants to stall. I have to accelerate at a very very slow pace.
Was driving vehicle on expressway about 60 mph in fast lane, lost all acceleration. I was still trying to accelerate and the speed was dropping and I had to cross three lanes of traffic to get to the side of the road. The wrench light was on and I turned the car off. I decided to try to move a little father up to a wider shoulder so I started the car again and the wrench light was out and it seem to run ok. I was very blessed that I moved to the side without being hit by all the big trucks and cars around me. The dealer tells me it is the throttle and I do not have extended warranty and my warranty has run out. I am very concerned as I see there are other complaints of this nature with this car. I could have been run over by a truck or caused a lot of cars to crash and kill a lot of people when this happened. I transport grandchildren four days a week in this car and I am very concerned that this has not been recalled and fixed. My last Mercury I had 13 years and never had such a scare. What will it take for Ford to do something about this? a rear end collision with a fire to kill a lot of people on the expressway?.
I was driving with the cruise control set at 60mph and the car popped and lost speed and the car would barely stay running. I pulled off the road ( during rush hour) and shut the car off. I re-started the car and it ran correctly.
I was traveling 70 mph when my car stalled out, the wrench light came on and I had to coast to safety. This happened again the next morning going approximately 10 mph. Car was towed to dealership and it was diagnosed as the throttle body control.
I was on FL turnpike at 70 mph, traffic very heavy . I lost power and had to coast to the shoulder from left lane . Almost got ran over ,but thank god I didn't . I cut the motor off. Restarted it . I got my speed up to 70mph . It surged a few times . Ran ok too home . This could be a life or death thing . I wonder if anyone has been hurt because of this . I will call Ford today and get it fixed .
Electronic throttle body failed as I was driving on the interstate. Car lost all throttle control, idled down to 1000 rpm, and rapidly decelerated in heavy interstate traffic. Had to pull over immediately.
Vehicle stalls out at random times. Goes into limp home mode. Seems to be a common problem with throttle body. Would be nice if Ford fixed this and got parts out.
As I entered the freeway at 60 mph begin to stall and then losing power I put my flashers on hoping I don't get run over the car stops no power to steer and I'am at the mercy of speeding vehicles. I'am on a fixed income. And do not have the funds. I purchased the vehicle from town east Ford mesquite texas.
While driving 50 mph on a highway, the vehicle suddenly without warning loss all propulsion and started to sputter violently. I noticed the "wrench" light indicator was illuminated and luckily coasted with no propulsion to a safe area on the highway shoulder to pull over. I shut the engine off for a minute and restarted vehicle as normal and no "indicator light" had illuminated. The vehicle appeared to be operating as normal at this point. Later I had the codes pulled for the incident on my vehicle and was told it indicated a throttle body failure. This occurred 3 times over the last several weeks. After doing a search on the internet, I found numerous incidents of the exact same description I have here. There must be an inherent defect of the part used in these vehicles.
Driving car started to shake acted like it wanted to die check enchine light came one and litle wrench light this happened out of the blue no warning or anything one second car running fine the next will not excellerate?.
Driving in city traffic when the car began to stall. Almost rear ended by the car behind me. Wrench light came on and the car stopped. I turned it off and then back on and was able to creep to a shoulder when it stalled out again. $500 repair and $55 tow. My mechanic told me the Ford motor CO. Was well aware of the problem and that it has been happening when the mileage gets around 50,000 miles. This is inexcusable. I'm going to sue them in magistrates court on Monday.
I work for the drug enforcement administration and my official government vehicle a 2010 Ford Mercury Milan stalled while driving on the highway at approximately 60 to 65 per hour. The car stalled and I had to pull over. I took the vehicle to the mechanic and was advised that there is a problem with the throttle body which causes the vehicle to stall. The part is on back order with Ford and a internet search for this problem is pretty wide spread. The stalling of a vehicle traveling on the highway is a serious hazard to the public. I dont know if this problem has been addressed with the Ford motor company.
Driving 65 mph on highway and car lost all power and yellow wrench light illuminated on dash. With car in limp mode pulled over to service lane. Car towed to local Ford dealer. Dealer replaced defective battery but found no codes stored in computer. Dealer test drove vehicle and reported no problem. Three days later same incident (loss of power and wrench light). Shut vehicle off and restarted it and engine had normal power l with wrench light extinquished. Drove vehicle to local Ford dealer and left it there for more diagnostics and repair. Very dangerous condition and feeling for all engine power to be gone unexpectedly.
My wife was driving this car on the NJ garden state parkway at 65 mph in the express lanes when the vehicle started running bad and lost power. This was a dangerous condition to lose power at that speed. She pulled the car over to side, shut off engine, then restarted and was able to move vehicle about a mile and get off the parkway at exit 117 to route 35 south. The car again started to run bad and she pulled into a Ford dealership near this exit. The Ford dealer had to replace the throttle body which went bad. This took 5 days as there is a national shortage for this part. #ds7z9e926d. It is evident that Ford has a serious problem with this part breaking down on thousands of cars as I see other customer complaints on the internet. I contacted Ford corp. In detroit and was told not under warranty on my car. This needs to be a recall. I worry that this part is defective, won't last long and will have to be replaced again in the future. I worry about another breakdown at high speed--very dangerous condition.
While driving on a busy city street my car suddenly lost engine power causing the vehicle to slow rapidly. The motorcyclist following behind my car narrowly missed hitting the rear of the car and the vehicle behind the motorcyclist swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid the motorcycle and my car causing vehicles in the oncoming traffic lane to also swerve to avoid an accident. The 2010 Milan continued to have the loss of engine power over the next two days and when taken to the dealership the problem was diagnosed as a defective throttle body. The loss of engine power and the sudden deceleration caused by the defective throttle body poses a significant threat to the safety of the vehicle and to other motorists. Ford is aware of the issue and needs to correct this problem before someone is injured or suffers a loss of life.
Multiple times & variations, but always w/the same result. At any given moment, wrench light would come on & vehicle would lose all acceleration ability while it surged/idled very roughly. Each time, I pulled vehicle off road to the best of my ability, put it in park (would then idle rough, but surge less). Turned vehicle off, waited 5-10min, restarted & vehicle would function close to normally (minimal small surges while driving). While veh was malfunctioning, I could hold gasoline pedal to the floor w/no response. Could not manually shift (I have an automatic shiftable) past 2nd gear & veh would not progress forward - except if the engine surged. This problem happened more, with less time between failings as the day progressed until I could finally get to a populated area/small town. It is also worth mentioning, both mechanics that checked my vehicle for me could not find any "history" in my codes. However, the first Ford dealership was able to do a special check that found a "throttle body failure". They cleaned the throttle body (parts are back ordered till 9/24/13) & sent me on my way hoping that would fix the problem. It did not, so I stopped at the very next town after it happened again & left my Mercury Milan with a Ford dealership. Each time this happened it was really quite scary as traffic around me had no idea I was about to have catastrophic failure. Thankfully all drivers involved were quick enough to avoid rear ending me.
When I press the accelerator the car stalls out, or goes "limp". This has happened several times. When I turn the car off and restart it the car runs fine for a minute. Took it to Ford they said it was the throttle body part.
I had just pulled out of my driveway this morning and began to accelerate, up to about 20 mph, when all of a sudden I lost total power. I looked down at the dash while steering the vehicle over to the side of the street, and noticed the "wrench" light was lit up. I immediately shut the car off, and got out my manual. The manual said the light indicated a transmission/power train/awd issue. I thought I would attempt to start the car again, and see what it would do. I restarted the vehicle, and the wrench light was no longer went, and I had power when I put it in gear. I took my chances, and went ahead and drove it work, hoping it was just a fluke, but decided I would investigate to see if others had experienced the same issue. I came across the entire listing of others who were experiencing this issue so thought I better immediately get it to the dealer and put on diagnostics. I explained to them what I thought the issue might be, the throttle body problem I had read about. They put it on diagnostics, but the only code which came up was a p0456, saying I needed to replace a valve--this code is indicated by the "service engine" light, and not the "wrench". He said they could find no codes for the "wrench" light. I told him that was strange, because the wrench light came on when I lost power. He told me the p0456 could make the car have the same types of issues. I told him I had been driving with the p0456 code for an extended period of time, and it had never affected the performance of the vehicle, so I didn't understand why it would do it now. I feel like this is the same type of issues others are experiencing, but the service manager told me previously when they saw the throttle body issue, there was always a code. Not sure why there is no code showing up, but that also seems to be common. Guess I will take my chances driving at this point.
While driving at 50-60 mph the car would start to slow and then there would be no throttle response, this happened 4 times in 40 miles, and luckily I was able to pull of the road with no problems. After the car sat for 5-10 minutes I was able to get it going and then about 10 miles later it would happen again. Got it to a Ford dealer and found out it is a bad throttle body. This part is on national back order with no idea when available. Had to rent a car to get home that day at a cost of $200.
The first incident occurred while traveling on a highway going almost 60 mph when the cruise control stopped and the car slowed and when you pushed the gas petal it did nothing. We slowed and tried to pull to the side of the road, as the car was almost to a stop it started jerking and sputtering almost dying. We put it in park and turned the engine off. We turned the engine back on and it started just fine then this same thing continued to happen every few miles. Check engine light was on so we took it in to have a computer hooked up to see what was wrong but the check engine light had turned off so they were unsure. The problem seemed to just go away for about a week and then it happened again and we got it in and hooked up to a computer and got the codes which we were informed meant we needed the throttle body replaced and it was a common problem with these cars and to contact a Ford dealer. Since this last incident it has happened multiple times causing us to not be able to drive the car even a few blocks without it happening 3-4 times. We are now without a vehicle as it is not only unsafe to drive but very inconvenient to have to stop and go a million times to make a short drive. This is ridiculous and from all I have researched it a huge problem for many owners of these and similar cars! this is dangerous and should be recalled and those with issues should not be responsible for making these repairs!.
Driving on freeway when vehicle acceleration became unresponsive. Pulled over to the side of the freeway and could tell engine was still running but not well. Turned vehicle of using the key and restarted the engine. It was a little hesitant to start - it took 5-6 seconds of the key being turned for it to start but had no problems after until the next occurrence. This occurred around 5-6 times until I could get it to the dealership with no regard for speed/road conditions/driving conditions. One moment it was fine the next it had no acceleration.
6/26/2013 - driving on heavily travelled road with congestion. Car started lurching and felt like it was starving for fuel. Wrench symbol lit on dashboard. Vehicle continued to move but at a drastictally reduced rate. Able to pull over with near misses with accident. Stopped and restarted car, all indictators were cleared and was able to get home. 6/27/2013 - symptoms happened again.
Commuting home from work the gas pedal became unresponsive, the entire began running very rough, and the red wrench symbol illuminated on my drivers display. Coasted to a safe spot to pull off, turned off the car let it sit for a minute or two, restarted the car, the display was clear, gas pedal response was good, and engine sounded normal. Drove home without further incident. Four days later a similar incident, contacted my Ford garage, described the problem and made an appointment for a diagnostic. Diagnostic came back with the throttle body diagnosis, the parts are on back order with no estimated receiving date. Will cost just under $500 to repair, 3 months out of bumper to bumper coverage, just under 27k on the car. Not covered under the extended power train coverage because it is a sensor/ electrical problem. I am 7th or 8th in line for the part when it becomes available at my local dealership.
