Failure Date: 08/07/2015

I was driving down the highway and then my gas pedal went to the floor and had no power. I pulled over to the side of the road and when I lifted the hood the whole engine was shaking. I shut off the car. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and it started up slowly. Ran for about 10 miles and did it again at 35 mph. Pulled over shut off car and waited(as a police officer pulled up to my car). Started the car again and made it to our campsite. We were 3 hours from home. I went online and found all of these problems with this car. I ended up at o reilly auto parts and fixed the throttle body in the parking lot. Has been running slightly rough since this happened. Then this morning(3 weeks later) I started the car and the radio and info on it does not work. Still working on this problem. Any thought would be helpful. I think it is time to get rid of the Mercury and go back to chevy.

19 Power Train problem

While driving on a 4 lane highway, my car jerked and the wrench warning light can on and no acceleration while I pressed the gas pedal. I was able to get the car to coast to safety and when I stopped the car is was jerking back. I turned the car off for a few minutes and turned it back on, it started up and ran fine. This incident happened again today while driving in town, not once but twice while I was driving 15 mph and the 2nd incident today about 30 mph. Both of these times I was able to get off the road safely, and got the car to restart and make it home 45 miles away. I am afraid to drive my car, that in heavy traffic, this could cause a serious accident.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

Power steering recall: Ford motor company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Ford escape and Mercury mariner vehicles manufactured August 18, 2006, through September 11, 2010. The affected vehicles have a steering torque sensor that may not be able to properly detect driver steering input. I called Ford motor company regarding my vehicle 2010 Mercury Milan premier because I had to have my power steering replaced on my vehicle. The dealership stated that I would have to call Ford and inform them that my car should be listed in the recall. When I called I was transferred to customer relations. The woman was very rude and kept repeating the same thing over and over. I explained to her I understand the protocol I just want to make sure that information regarding the call will be submitted about my vehicle power steering was serviced on my Milan and if there was anything further that I could do regarding my vehicle possibly being in the recall. Her tone of voice was very rude and she didn't seem to care about my concern. I am considering purchasing a Honda vehicle. When my power steering went out it was four occurrences 3 times on the freeway and once leaving from work. Not only was my my life and danger but the other drivers and my family members who were in the vehicle with me. So to speak with someone who does not care about my concern is very upsetting and I do not want to drive anymore Ford/Mercury vehicles.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2014

As I was driving my car, the vehicle steering became hard to steer and within minutes, the steering became non-existent. I had to put on hazards in order to avoid an a car from hitting me and to try to get to a safe place with pretty much no steering power.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2014

I was driving on the highway going about 70mph when my car jolted. Then from there it decelerated very fast. I pushed on the gas and nothing it felt like it was in neutral with nothing happening. I quickly was able to get into the breakdown lane but due to being in the high speed lane I almost got hit by 2 cars. As I pulled over it felt like the car was about to stall. I shut the car off and waited. I turned it back on and it drove fine. About 2 months ago I had stopped at a stop sign and when I went to drive my car again felt like it was in neutral no matter how much I pressed on the gas it did not go anywhere. . . Even though it was in the drive gear. I shut it off and turned it on and it was fine. My car feels like it hesitates and bucks sometimes when I am driving also. This seems extremely dangerous seeing as I was almost in an accident yesterday on the highway. I was told I needed to see if my VIN was part of the campaign recall to get this fixed. I will say if I find out its not part of the recall even though its listed in it then I will never by a Ford or Mercury every again because it shows they could care less about how dangerous something is and its fords fault no fault of mine!.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2014

The vehicle suddenly stalled while driving at highway speeds (55mph) in heavy traffic. Rapid deceleration and many dashboard lights came on. I was able to change to the right lane and then bring the vehicle to a stop on the shoulder safely, avoiding an accident, as the car was in rapid deceleration and stepping on the gas was unresponsive. There was no acceleration, or engine noise or response when I stepped on the gas pedal while in drive position and the key in the on position. I turned the car off for several minutes, wondering what to do. I then turned the key back on, and the car was able to drive. I took side roads home and then scheduled an appointment at the selling manufacturer dealership. The defect was in the throttle body? they would not cover the $500 repair under the new vehicle warranty (out on time), the $1700 extended warranty I purchased (not covered part), the emissions warranty (not covered part) or the hybrid warranty ( not covered part), or any recall, or goodwill service plan or service bulletin repairs. Then I found out there was a settlement with the NHTSA for similar incidents that Ford agreed to extend the warranty on the throttle body for 150,000 miles or 10 years. (this vehicle is a 2010 with just over 20,000 miles. They said it is not covered under the settlement because it a hybrid and they were not included in the settlement. I think that this premature failure of an item that they will replace if defective in 150,000 miles or ten years as part of a settlement to avoid a recall and associated public disclosure, should be covered under the agreement. I have the part from the dealer. Even though there are fewer hybrids on the road as a statistic, it only takes one failure to cause a tragic result. I can send the part for investigation to determine if there were not enough suppliers and parts identified prior to the settlement.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2014

While driving at approximately 60 to 65mph, the car lost power and decrease speed while maintaining control of the vehicle, pull to the side of the road, car was still running and after turning off and restarting and entering the highway again problem persisted with the same results.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

Immediately after entering a main highway, the engine seemed to die yet idled around 1000 rpm. The dash lights came on, the engine sputtered, but wouldn't increase speed and vehicle wouldn't move more than 2 or 3 miles per hour. After getting it off road and turning ignition off for a couple of minutes, it started and drove fine.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2014

I felt a big jolt as I was pulling out of my neighborhood. It felt like I hit something. My son even got out of the car and looked underneath. Then the next day, as I was pulling out of a grocery parking lot, it was revving up but wouldn't go, like it wasn't in gear. I stopped, put it in park for a minute, then back to drive. It started going but happened again at the next intersection. Third day, I took it to the dealership, and they said it needed a computer update. Luckily, I do have an extended warranty, so there was no charge. That was two days ago, and it seems to be okay for now, but I'm so afraid to drive it in heavy traffic, and I'm hesitant now every time I have to pull into traffic when leaving the store or my neighborhood.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2014

Driving down the road power steering was lost and control of the vehicle was lost causing to hit a curb damaging rack and pinion tie rod ends, wheels and tires and alignment.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2014

While traveling at 55mph my vehicle stalled, lost all power and came to a stop at the side of the road. It was restarted several times each time with the wrench symbol illuminated. Was only able to drive home at 45mph and the car bucked and stalled two times. Will be calling Ford for repair. Luckily I signed up for the extended service plan when I purchased this vehicle as a certified pre owned car at the dealership. This is obviously a throttle body issue which I will be explaining to the tech's when I bring it in for repair. And more importantly, this is a major safety issue for the occupants of this car and other cars involved if an accident were to occur.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2014

I was driving on the freeway at about 60 mph when my car suddenly lost all drive power without warning. I managed to coast to the snow-covered right shoulder. When I put the vehicle in park, it was shuddering and the engine warning lights were on. I turned the car off for a minute and then turned it back on. The car seemed to drive ok then, but I immediately took it to the dealership and learned that the diagnostic codes indicated a failure in the throttle body. If this is a faulty part it should be recalled. I feel I was lucky to be able to get my disabled car off the road without incident. The next person may not be so fortunate.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

I was driving down the highway traveling at approximately 50mph when the car suddenly started to lose power and I was not able to accelerate--car was coasting. The wrench light came on at the same time as well. I turned on my hazard lights and was able to coast to the shoulder of the road. The car started to sputter as it slowed down and eventually lost all power/stopped. I turned the car off, and was able to start back up again. . . Very confusing and annoying.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2013

I was driving about 40 miles per hour and then all of the sudden the car stop working properly. The wrench lit up on the dashboard. I decided to pull to the side and turn off the car. After turning off the car, I turned it on again and I was able to drive for about 4 miles. Then, when it was time to drive it up a hill, it did the same.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2013

I was driving on a highway, felt a jerk in the engine, and was no longer able to accelerate. The engine continued to run and all electrical components (lights, radio, etc. ) were operational, but the car would only decrease speed so I stopped the car on the shoulder. I noticed that the engine stuttered considerably while idling and would not respond to the throttle. The wrench warning light was illuminated on the dashboard. I shut the engine off and called for a tow truck. The tow truck driver arrived after 20 minutes and was able to drive the car onto the flatbed. Some ability to drive forward had returned but I was wary. I had the car transported to a Ford dealership and the service technician identified the throttle body as the culprit ($425 to repair). I've learned subsequent to my experience that this problem is quite common with 2009 - 2011 Mercury Milans. The throttle body repair is covered for 2 years. I'm concerned that this problem may repeat.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

Car idle at stop sign, accelerated into highways to make a left turn, loss of power, engine accelerating, but car moving very slowly, stalled. I pulled the car over on the side of the road, and turned the engine off. When I restarted the car a few minutes later, I was able to drive home without any problem. Then, a few days later, as I was on the way to flow auto in winston-salem, nc, about 6 miles from my home, the car stalled during another left hand turn from a stoplight. I purchased this car less than 3 months ago. It had 36,205 miles on it at purchase. Flow auto says the problem is the throttle drive and it isn't covered under the warranty. Within 90 days of purchase, I have to pay $662 for a repair that has been reported thousands of times by owners of Ford focus and Mercury Milan owners, since the car was produced.
