On 5 different occasions during the past week while driving between 70 and 80 mph on the freeway the vehicle stalled and went into limp mode. On one occasion this nearly caused an accident as the vehicle stopped in the middle lane of a three lane highway. No warning lights displayed other than "limp mode light" when the vehicle engine goes to idle. Upon shutting vehicle off and restarting, vehicle behaves as normal with no indicator/warning lights. Took vehicle to shop to get check engine codes, vehicle shows no error codes.
Car stalled 3 times - car was purchased on 10/5/13.
Intermittent electrical connectivity and issue with throttle. Car has had problems since we received it in November 2010. Into walker Ford clearwater 4 times recorded - 2 other times not. Service department has replaced throttle body 11/12 and completed recall 13b17 (6/2014) but the same exact issues persist. Service department stated at least 4 times that they cannot replicate the issue or find the issue. Called customer service week of October 14, 2014 and was assigned jolynn legaul (866-631-3788 - ext 77722) who we talked to at length and send a follow up email (October 16, 2014) . Called twice and not returned our calls. Ms. Legaul said she would be back to us in a few days with a solution and have a service department prepared to fix the car. It has now been over 15 days since the original conversation. We are afraid to drive the car because,it has sudden reduction of engine power, revs into a high gear with no movement while traveling at 30-55 mph, and twice has died in the middle of intersection. Same issues as described in NHTSA action number pe13003.
About a month ago this first happened as I went to accelerate the wrench light came on and could get no power near accident. . . . Today traveling 55 mph the wrench appeared again and I could no longer accelerate if a car was behind me I would have got nailed. I pulled over turned the car off and back on and it worked until each time I was at a stop light the rpm would sputter and the car would stall. Reading nearly 200 similar complaints someone is bound to get seriously injured if it has not happened yet. If this was winter . . . I seriously crash on the road I was traveling.
After coming to a stop and turned the corner, there was no power. Pulled over and shut the car off and waited a few minutes and restarted. The wrench light that was on, shut off once the car started up. Took it into the dealer. They could find nothing wrong after a diagnostic test. Do not feel secure in driving as wonder when this will happen again.
It sounds like the electronic throttle body problem that others are having. This has now happened 6 times (3 in excess of 60 mph). While driving the engine clunks, the check engine wrench light comes on, loose all acceleration power, and the engine is very sputter. After pulling/coasting off the road, turn the car off, wait, and then it starts right up without problem.
While driving on a freeway (middle lane) at ~ 50 mph the "wrench" light cane on and the vehicle slowed to 20mph. Very unsafe.
Driving down rural highway traveling at 58mph and suddenly lost all power and car started bucking. Able to pull off and coast to stop. Rough idling. Wrench light came on when this happened. Turned off car and restarted 5 min later. Wrench light went out. Proceed to drive and approached 58 again incident happened again. Same symptoms but now engine light came on. Turned off car and waited over 15 min. To restart. Restarted and wrench light went out but engine light remained on. Able to drive home on shoulders at speeds not above 40 mph. Called dealership and not covered under drivetrain/emissions standard manufactures warranty. Need to diagnose it in shop at labor rates. No money.
The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, the vehicle shook with a jerking motion and shut off. The wrench warning icon and the check engine light simultaneously illuminated when the failure occurred. The vehicle restarted within a minute but operated for an unpredictable time and distance. The contact cleaned the throttle body and started the engine but it shut off again. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 45,000. Updated 11/5/cn the consumer purchased the part, and installed it himself. Updated 11/12/13.
I was driving on a local road. Suddenly the car lost power and the wrench light was on. It could only go very slowly before I parked it on the roadside. I waited for several minutes and started the engine, then everything seemed just fine and the wrench light went off. After the trip I tried to connect obdii code reader but cannot get any error code.
Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle decelerated without manual force. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated the throttle positioning sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000. Kmj.
It has happened many times since the first time, but I was driving down the highway at approximately 50 mph and the orange wrench light came on and I could not get my gas pedal to do anything. I pulled over, shut the car off and restarted it and it was fine for a couple of days with no incidents. Then it did it about a week later, several times in a row going down the interstate. It seems to start up ok after I shut it down, but very unsafe to be driving down the interstate at 70 mph and then have no power and have to pull off. My engine light turns on after this happens a couple of times and then will shut off after a couple times of driving.
The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that the vehicle simultaneously shook, jerked and decelerated to 5 mph as the wrench warning icon illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 66,000. The VIN was not available.
I was in cincinnati that weekend (3 hours away from home) and as I was pulling into the parking lot of a store, the car jerked very hard and then the wrench showed up on the dash and I lost all power. I was able to coast into a parking space. I then shut off the car and waited a bit and restarted it. The wrench came off the dash and the car was working properly again. We then went about our day and as we were heading back to my nephews football game, we were driving down 4 lanes of traffic and I had just passed a slower moving vehicle when the car jerked abruptly again and I lost all power. I put my turn signal on and was able to turn off a side road. The wrench came on again. It happen the next day as we were attempting to drive back home. We tried to drive the car back home in manual and it worked just fine. I got our car into our local car dealership and they said that it was the throttle body that needed replaced. So after forking out $375, it hasn't done anything since. The reason I'm filing this complaint is that if the throttle body would've acted up while we were traveling through the hilly roads in cincinnati, we would've been in a severe car accident. This problem is a huge concern as you lose all control of the car. You have no gas and the rpm's just quiver on the dash. If I hadn't been able to pull off of the side of the road, we would've been hurt due to a car crash. This concern needs to be sent to Ford/Mercury as this seems to be a huge problem once I researched it. We were fortunate that this didn't happen while we were traveling 70 mph on I-75 in ohio on our way back. The problem with the throttle body needs to be issued as a recall. It is going to get someone in a very bad accident or killed.
Vehicle is randomly stalling out, check engine light on. It starts vibrating and making clunking noise. It happens randomly whether sitting at a light taking off or driving at high speeds. This car is literally falling apart and I haven't even owned it a year. I would never buy another Mercury.
Just after moving from a stop at a red light, while accelerating, the vehicle began to lose power. As I drifted off the side of the road the "wrench" icon on the dash illuminated, which indicates throttle body issues, among other possible things. I had to stop the vehicle as the vehicle was unable to move under any power, and shut the vehicle off. I re-started it and I was able to continue on my way. The icon was not illuminated. This has since occurred approximately five (5) times since the initial instance. There was never any indication of performance issues prior to this first instance. In researching the occurrence I became aware of the fact that this has been an issue with the throttle bodies on several Ford products manufactured around the same time as my Mercury, and that there is apparently an investigation already in progress.
I bought my car with around 20,000 miles on it and experienced jerking, rough idling, and a complete loss of power when driving. I returned it to the dealership a total of 3 times for this issue. I was told it was a transmission issue and they were resetting something that had to do with the computer in the transmission. After the first instance of the car stalling, I googled any issues with my particular vehicle and came upon a throttle body problem. I mentioned this to the dealership on several occasions and was told that this was not a common issue, nor was it the problem with my vehicle. Last week, I was driving to work, my car completely stalled while going 75mph on a 4 lane highway. I was almost rearended by the semi that was behind me as my car's speed suddenly, and without warning, dropped by over 15mph. I made my way to the right side and slowly coasted up an off ramp to get off the highway (as there was no shoulder). Even if you press the gas, nothing happens. You do not accelerate at all. I turned the car off and restarted it. I drove maybe 5 minutes and it stalled again. I had to restart my car a total of 5 times on the 7 mile drive to work that day and was almost hit by other cars just about every time. I called my personal mechanic and had it towed to him instead of the dealership because I was told that this was a different issue than my previous 3 visits to the dealership and Ford would not be covering it under my warranty. The mechanic replaced the throttle body and my car runs perfectly now. He said when he called around to get a party he had a horrible time even finding one because they are on back order due to this being such a huge issue across the country. I've been telling the dealership for 25,000 miles and almost 2 years this was what was wrong with my car and now its suddenly not covered under my warranty.
Driving approximately 30 mph, the car coasted to a stop and the wrench showed on the dashboard. Waited a short while, restarted and it was okay. Did notice some lurching and the car felt like it was in the wrong gear, prior to the second incident on 10/07/20. Driving through an intersection at 30 mph, wrench showed on dashboard and car slowed to a crawl. I had to make it through the busy intersection and off ramp from a highway in order to safely get the car off the road. I could have been rear-ended both times, to say nothing about the fear of your car just conking out in the dark at 5:30am. The 3 year/36,000 mile warranty expired may 27, 2013. . . And my current mileage is 35,581 miles!!!!!!!!!! 111 days over the months and 419 miles under the warranty. . . . So, I am paying around $300+ to have this fixed. With all the exact complaints as happened to others, I am surprised Ford did not send a notice to owners to get it fixed or face the potential of being involved in a crash. . . Thank you.
When leaving a red-light the throttle (gas pedal) did not work. I had to coast to off the road. Turn off the car and re-start. At that time the gas pedal worked.
Driver was proceeding on I-290 in left lane at speed of 60mph with moderate traffic. The engine started misfiring and bucking without warning and the vehicle experienced a drastic reduction of speed nearly causing accident from behind since the speed reduction was without warning. The wrench light illuminated. The engine continued to decelerate and created a situation where driver could not change lanes to right and was forced to move to left shoulder. The engine completely stalled and shut off before car stopped. After 30 minutes, vehicle started and operation resumed. Service department denied any problem with vehicle. 3 weeks later, while traveling 55 mph on NY rte 33, the vehicle stalled again at highway speed. The engine could be restarted but only operated with very rough condition. This vehicle is unfit and unsafe to be operated on a public highway.
I've experienced several instances of my vehicle stalling while in motion at various speeds (30-65 mph). At the dealership it was determined that the problem is with the throttle & the part is on back order. It is my only means of transportation & cannot get it repaired. Despite the low mileage, I am being told that this is not covered under the manufacturer's warranty. This issue is not due to wear & tear but to a manufacturer's mechanical failure. Why is the consumer responsible for the repairs to a preexisting problem in these cars?.
On 12 September I went to take off from a light and the car had no acceleration, and the wrench light came on in control panel. . . I was able to coast to the shoulder on other side of intersection and placed the car in park and turned it off. When I turned the car back on it started fine and the light was no longer on. It was about two weeks later on 27 September was driving to work on a 2-lane road going about 45 mph and the car lost all acceleration and the wrench light came back on. There was not much of a shoulder to pull off on but found a spot and placed car in park and turned it off. I smelled a slight burning smell so waited little bit longer than last time and turned the car back on. It started up and the light was no longer on and it drove fine. I took to a mechanic on Saturday morning and told me the diagnostic could not produce a code because the incident could not be replicated but believed it was the throttle body and needed a replacement.
I was driving on the northway preparing to get in the right lane to exit and I lost all speed, no acceleration was possible but I still had radio/a/c, etc. I was able to get over and stop the car and when I put it in park it "sputtered" until I shut the engine off entirely. I waited a few moments and turned the engine back on and it started fine and then drove fine the rest of my drive. When I got back to work I researched this problem online and was surprised at the number of complaints for the same issue. Everyone had taken their car to a dealership or mechanic and could not figure it out. No warning lights came on in the dash. Finally after reading so many of the same complaints one car owner stated that a diagnosis resulted in code p2111 (faulty throttle body). I'm concerned about driving this car and having it happen again. I drive on a fast 3 lane highway about 20 miles each way to work and it's not always very easy to get over to safety. After seeing this has been investigated in another state I am hopeful it results in a recall so this problem can be properly addressed and fixed. Please help!.
This has happened to me many times over the last month at least 12 times. This occurs at various speeds, the car will stall or nearly stall. I am unable to acceleralte. I have to coast to a safe location turn the key off put the car in park and restart the car. Luckly the car has restared everytime. The wrench warning light comes on after the near stall, but goes off after I restart the car. When I come to the stop the engine seems to be trying to run but has no power and the idle is very rough. I went to the dealer and they said it sounds like the throttle body. This seems to be a know problem but I don't see a recall on it? when it goes into the near stall I have no acceleration and puts me in a very dangerous position as I try to jockey to a safe location with no power.
The car loses power while driving, the wrench light comes on and then I have to pull over to the side of the road, it has also happened on the highway which is scary? also the car sometimes has an idle problem, like its trying not to stall, but causes the car to jump a little while at stop lights. Also when I get gas, the car does not want to start, but if I leave the car running while getting gas the car is fine.
On at least 4 separate occasions, we were driving (two times going about 60 mph, the other two times about 30 mph) and the engine seemed to seize up or would lose acceleration. The wrench light comes on each time and we are not able to accelerate. We had to coast to the side of the road (extremely dangerous on busy highways to get over to the side of the road with no power). Once to the side of the road, we turned the car off and waited a couple of minutes. Once we turned the car back on, it seemed to work properly again. We took the car to a Ford dealership to have them look at it. The error code did not register so did not know what to fix.
Driving a steady 70 mph on the interstate. Car speed started to drop and there was no response from the accelerator. Coasted the car to the shoulder. Engine remained running between 800 to 1500 rpm and surging. No response to accelerator input. Car would lurch forward. Wrench light came on. Extremely dangerous situation. Shut engine off and restarted. Condition did not improve. Was able to move the car off the interstate at less than 5 mph. Car was surging and lurching the entire time. Stopped the engine again. Waited about 10 minutes and restarted the engine. Car appears to have returned to normal operation. There are numerous complaints about this very dangerous condition.
I was on my way to work and got on the freeway and as I accelerated to the flow of traffic, the car started splutting and I was in the middle lane with a truck close behind me and cars on each side. The speed started to decrease as I pushed on the gas petal with nothing happening. It was as though it ran out of gas and the console lights came on. I panic and tried to work my way to the side of the road. I was able to get over after the truck barely missed piting me and coasted til the car slowed down and turned the car off and tried to start it again, it started because I knew that it wasnt out of gas, I had a full tank. There was no check engine light on at that time either. I persided to get back on the freeway and got up to 50 mph and went to the nearest exit and my car repeated the same thing, this time with a jerking motion. . That when the check engine light came on. I moved the car to a safer area and called to get it towed. It was place on the a machine that read p2111 and p2112. The auto shop informed me that it was the trottle body.
I was driving with the cruise control set at 60mph and the car popped and lost speed and the car would barely stay running. I pulled off the road ( during rush hour) and shut the car off. I re-started the car and it ran correctly.
While driving on the freeway at 55mph the orange wrench symbol lit up on the dashboard and the car started to lose power. The engine kept running, but there was no response when I pushed on the gas pedal. I was able to coast to the side of the road. I turned the car off for 5 minutes and then restarted it and the power returned enough to get me to a Ford dealer.
The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that she attempted to accelerate but the vehicle would not respond. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
I've had multiple issues with the Milan throttle body for over a year. Everytime I take it to the dealer they say the computer just needs reprogrammed. After I leave the dealership my car usually has a hard faluire just like it did before (loss of power, engine running rough, car rolls to a stop). I can completely turn the car off and turn back on and it runs fine again for a while and then does it all over again. The dealership will only keep reprogramming the computer. They have also replaced the throttle body 2 times but after about 100 miles it starts all over again. Ford has refused to do anything other than what the dealership can find which is only what the codes say (reprogram computer or replace throttle body). I'm not going to keep taking my car in every week to get reprogrammed. Ford has refused to give me a loaner car to use until they fix it. I've taken multiple days off work and arranged for other transportation for the previous work. However, enough is enough. I can't keep taking my car back for some that Ford knows needs fixed. This is clearly a significant safety issue. I travel a lot on highways and interstates and when I lose power I've had some close calls will accidents (re ended) and trying to get to a shoulder to pull off and restart car. I can no longer use my car to drive my kids around due to the safety concerns of being hit during a failure or stranded. I've made this known very clearly to Ford but they don't seem to care. If they do they are not acting on it. I would hate for something terrible to happen before they fix it. I'm not only concerned for my family but others that may be having similar issues with their car. All I'm asking for is for Ford to recognize this is a very real and serious safety concern. They need to look a lilttle deeper at the issue. I just want a safe car to drive until they can fix it.
I was driving my family home in our hybrid Milan on a busy street and the engine light for power train failure (a wrench) came on, simultaneously with total loss of acceleration. I immediately put on my blinker to move out of the way and to a safe place to stop. I was in the left lane and had to move across several lanes to get away from traffic confused by my sudden and apparently unreasonable deceleration. I pulled over into a side street and stopped the car, looked up the light meaning in the card manual and waited a few minutes. I restarted the car and drove it around a small neighborhood successfully before I would attempt taking it home with my young daughter in the car. We took a tentative drive home with the emergency lights flashing, hoping it would not happen again, as there was no way to go home without traffic in the washington DC area. Coming to this site and seeing all the complaints I am wondering if we have to have fatalities before this is investigated and recalled. I drive on highways daily and my 7 year old's life is too important for this uncertainty. Until now, I just loved my car. Now it is scary as I see this is common, unpredictable and clearly dangerous.
After coming online and one search led me here and I saw the exact same problem from so many other Milan owners, I was alarmed. I bought it couple months ago, less than 30k miles. . . I'm driving and accelerating stopped working, my car slowed down, I clicked the hazards on real quick and drifted as far over as I could. Police had to put flares out until tow truck came. Tow truck got there and after we made it to Ford-Mercury, the car started and "acted" just fine. The tow driver suggested it had been bad gas and may need injection cleaner. I decided to drive it home after adding hi-test gas and inj cleaner, and it was all good. Until today. (3 days later). I stopped at a traffic light and car idled down til it cut off. The mpg led monitor started dropping (just like it did first time) it went from getting 15 mpg to 5 mpg in the matter of 2 minutes while just idling. As if the gas was dumping thru lines. Also the idle became so erratic it would go up then drop down, I made it where I needed but left the car, and took spouses car. I took a video of the dash the first time it happened it shows orange wrench light came on, the mpg dropped from 13mpg to 2. 2mpg and the idle rpm would go up and down, no matter whether you pushed gas or not. Gas pedal still felt normal under foot, so not the pedal. Car still ran, just wouldn't go anywhere, (had dog and needed ac until tow came) I hope there's a fix for this. From what I'm seeing, even the dealer mechanics can't diagnose the issue. Will be checking here to see if any new help or advice is available.
My car has stopped numerous time in the middle of a busy expressway and has almost resulted in a accident. I had two small children in my vehicle at the the time, my car continues to stop many times and I attempted to get the problem solved but I cannot since there is a severe back order on Mercury Milan throttle body. Therefore I am forced to drive in unsafe conditions because of a mass problem that is obviously going on with Ford/Mercury vehicles.
