2 Instrument Panel problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/23/2010

In oct. 2009 I purchased a 2010 Mercury Milan, VIN [xxx] from ken stoepel Ford Lincoln Mercury dealer in kerrville, texas. I believe that there is a safety issue with the vehicle. The instrument panel shows blue speedometer numbers which show up nicely when it is in the garage but while driving on the highway under normal daytime conditions, the numbers do not show. I have talked with a rep at Ford motor CO. And have also taken it to the dealer on two occasions and they say that it cannot be corrected. Driving without being able to see how fast I am going is a safety hazard. The dealer's service manager admitted that others have complained of this problem and that it also presents itself on the Ford f150 pickup truck and obviously on the 2010 Ford fusion. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Instrument Panel problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/14/2010

The speedometer in this model is difficult to view, particularly in daylight, due to blue numbers against a blue background. This could be a safety concern for two reasons. First, if a driver cannot easily see the speed he/she is traveling, it could result in driving at excessive speed and resulting in a crash. Second, a driver may have to take his/her eyes off the road for too long to see the speed registered, rather than just a glance. This distraction could also result in a crash. More contrast or better illumination of the instrument cluster could alleviate this concern.

The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that there was nothing they could do. He was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The current and failure mileages were approximately 300.

6 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 02/04/2007

While driving in sub-zero temperatures engine sounded horrible called for a tow to village Ford kept vehicle for 3 weeks then said need new engine but warranty voided because engine severely deprived of oil. Service tech said not correct because there was oil in it asked for my oil change receipts I had 4 receipts 2 from oil change shop and 2 from my brother Ford would not accept oil changes done by my brother allowing them to say that I did not change oil enough not maintaining the vehicle properly voided my warranty southgate lm said I needed new engine and damage was caused by a camshaft seizing inside the engine due to the vehicle engine timing being off oil in the vehicle appears very dirty and unfortunately is the culprit of the timing being off I did change the oil but Ford chose not to recognize two of my changes there was never any indicator lights on my dashboard such as a check engine or an oil lamp indication to warn that the oil is low or that the engine is having trouble (as in trouble getting oil) car has been in a Ford shop for nearly 6 weeks by the time I get it back southgate Lincoln Mercury will replace the entire engine and all associated parts for which I will be charged $6000 00 meanwhile I have no assurance that this will not happen again since there was no early indication of trouble I have never been told by Ford nor do I see it in any of their paperwork that they will not count an oil change as valid if it is not done at a service shop this engine failure caused a large risk to me and my three children because with the record-breaking cold temperatures we could have suffered hypothermia or frostbite very quickly had I not stopped the car in a subdivision where we took shelter in a home we could have suffered catastrophic harm had I pulled out into oncoming traffic at the time the engine started to sound bad and lose power.
