The contact owns a 2004 Mercury Monterey. The contact stated that while driving through a drive thru, the vehicle independently shifted into neutral and was unable to shift into the intended gear. The automatic transmission warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. A dealer was contacted back in 2012 who confirmed that the VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 12v006000 (power train); however, parts were not available. The contact called that same dealer in 2015 who confirmed that parts were available for the recall repair however, there was no available appointment and advised the contact to bring in the vehicle to be repaired only if a failure was experienced. The vehicle was not repaired. After the most recent failure, the contact called the same dealer and was informed that the system was indicating that the recall repair was completed; however, the vehicle was never scheduled for the recall repair. The contact confirmed that the recall repair was not performed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

Thursday may 23 2019. Driving down the road and my van just cut off. I was able to restart the van and get into a parking lot. I sat for a bit and tried it again. It started. But I had no power to go forward or reverse the transmission was just gone. Absolutely no warning or anything like this had happened. No service engine light . . I was on a city street. I had just pulled forward from waiting for a red light.

The contact owns a 2004 Mercury Monterey. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 12v006000 (power train) as a possible cause of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Transmission won't engage. Pulling out of gas station, it wouldn't move. Mechanic said it was recalled, and work was done 2 years ago.
The contact owns a 2004 Mercury Monterey. While driving approximately 50 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle failed to move forward. The contact was able to move the vehicle over to the side of the roadway. He placed the vehicle in reverse and then drive, but the vehicle still failed to move. The vehicle was towed to his home where he called kinsel Ford (3355 eastex fwy, beaumont, TX 77706 (409) 899-4000). Since the vehicle was serviced in March of 2016 per NHTSA campaign number: 12v006000 (power train), the dealer stated that they could not assist. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not offer any assistance for the same reason as the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.
The vehicle stalled on me this morning as I was driving to work on a busy street. I attempted to crank it back up but the oil light as well as the battery light came on and the check engine light stayed on. I left the vehicle on the side of the road for 8 hrs, when I returned I was able to drive it for approx. 15 miles and it stalled again once I made it to my destination. Vehicle also backfires now and has a very strong gas smell coming from it. Started stalling after I drove through standing water puddles on the road.
Left my house and when stopped at a stop sign felt a jerk movement and lost brakes for a quick second. After pulling away from the stop sign and continuing down the road at approx. 45 mph the car completely started decelerating and lost steering and brakes then completely lost power and car shut off. After trying to restart it multiple times it would start for a minute then when put into drive it would die again after a few tries and had children the car I finally had to have it towed home. This is a very big safety issue that needs to be addressed before someone is killed!.
While driving the vehicle at approximately 50 mph, the van simply turned off. Lost power steering and the breaks barely responded when compressed. Had to use the emergency break to stop the vehicle. Found the following p codes (p-0715 and p-0340). Took the car to the dealership and they had to replace the turbine speed and cam sensors. Drove the vehicle for 1 week and the same event happened again. I lost power steering, breaks and required the emergency break to stop the car. The p codes were p-0715 and p-0340. Also, during the second event I needed to put the car in reverse but was unable to do so.

The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence where the ecm module was replaced by the contact. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The contact stated that the power train warning light illuminated intermittently and other unknown electrical failures occurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
I was driving at 35 mph and all of a sudden my engine started revving and it was like I was in neutral. I coasted to the side of the road. The engine was running fine, I just had no drive or reverse. I only have 70,000 miles on it. It seems like this is a recurring item with the Mercury Monterey minivans. It's a good thing I wasn't on the highway. My car was towed to a shop where they told me the transmission is shot. I then towed it to a Ford dealer and am waiting for the damage. . . . .
Lost power while driving, had to have the transmission replaced at a cost of $2,784. 40. Received letter from Ford regarding recall notice 11s25/NHTSA recall 12v-006. Letter stated that I would receive a second letter during second quarter of 2012 with details on refund process. It is now the 3rd quarter of 2012 and haven't received any additional information. When I enter the VIN # on Ford's website, it states that my vehicle isn't under the recall.
While going down the highway with no warning van will not accelerate, [engine revs up but not move] was able to coast to a stop along a busy freeway ,had to have van towed.
It is a well cared for 2004 that all of a sudden started to have a little shake when accelerating. Once I got up past 50-55ish it almost went away. I assumed I had a wheel out of balance so when I had it in for an oil change a few days later, I had them do a rotation and balance. That really didn't fix anything and it got worse. If I was accelerating up hill(which I have to do a lot since I live at the bottom of a hill) then it was like I was driving over hundreds of broomsticks that someone had lay across the road. I took it to a shop (not my usual one, but it was very close to home) to see what they thought. They looked and said cv shaft. When I was able to get it into my regular shop two days later, they looked at it and said 'found transaxle output shaft bearing on right side axle very loose causing excessive movement with right axle. ' he said the right axle was basically loose where it attached to the transmission. They said they would have to research if it was actually a bushing or a bearing in order to tell me the repair cost. Monday morning I get a call saying basically I need a new transmission. Now the vibration isn't as bad, but is still there. It also feels like it is wanting to take off while I am driving at a constant speed. Not chugging out, but like all of a sudden it gets a little surge of power then stops. Almost as if someone else is tapping on the gas pedal, then letting off. This happens whether I am using the cruise control or not.
Our family of five was traveling in the middle lane of a three-lane highway with the cruise control set at 60 mph. We encountered a hill and - without warning - the vehicle tachometer violently increased rpm and we began to slow down. Fortunately the traffic was light and despite the road construction, there was a shoulder to safely pull onto. While we are grateful that there was no accident and that everybody escaped any harm (especially our three kids in car seats), I would hate to think about what could have happened during "rush hour"쳜 with a tractor trailer behind me.
The contact owns a 2004 Mercury Monterey. The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently jerk and stall while driving at various speeds above 30 mph. Upon restart, the vehicle would operate as normal. The contact also stated that upon examining the vehicle, he noticed that water was penetrating the power train control module and corroding various components. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 118,000.
I have a 2004 Mercury Monterey wit 71. 000 miles on it. I was driving home from church vbs June 24 at 10 pm with my kids going 55 mph when the rpms started reving up. I ended up in a really bad place that could've been fatal. We were in a curve on a high traffic road with a about a 3ft ditch beside us and I was not able to pull off the road. The only thing that saved us was my husband was still at the church and was able to get to us with some friends from church and helped tow the van to our house. There was no warning just stopped moving and rpms revving up. I have 4 kids and just paid a huge down payment on this van so I have no money to fix it. Ford is not standing behind their product. I have had two chevrolets in the past that didn't experience transmission problems until after 250,000 miles. Please help!.
While traveling in heavy traffic on I-95 south at the connecticut/new york border at 55 mph the tachometer had a sudden and dramatic rise in rpm's but all power out to the drive wheels was lost. It was as if the transmission went into neutral. Luckily, we were able to pull off the highway and avoided being run over by a semi. After stopping on the shoulder with the brakes releasewd and the transmission gear selector still in drive the van proceeded to roll backwards down the hill we had to stop on. We were left in a precarious position between the guardrail and the cars and trucks still moving on the highway. Luckily we weren't hit by any passing vehicles! this was a very dangerous occurance. Being a common problem that has been continually reported to your agency and there is an ongoing class action suit againt Ford motor company for this problem, I think there should be some kind of investigation of this problem of this problem and Ford should be made to notify oi ers of this vehicle of the problem before someone does get killed or seriously injured. I feel this is definitely a safety related problem.
2004 Mercury Monterey Mini van transmission went out on highway no warning cost $3000. 00 to fix at aamco approx. 90,000 mile on vehicle. Trans. Was serviced 3 times at regular intervals and was never abused. Trans. Failure was the same as ongoing complaint on edmunds, there is a problem here that Ford needs to recall and or rebate, before someone gets hurt while driving these vehicles!!!.
The contact owns a 2004 Mercury Monterey. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the contact's personal mechanic and the transmission was replaced. Several months later while driving 25 mph, a child passenger noticed that they could see the roadway from the third row seat. Upon investigation, the contact noticed that the vehicle had rust along the driver and passenger sides of the frame where the third row seat was connected. Two months later the vehicle would not start and was towed to the contact's personal mechanic but the failure had not been diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 138,306 and the current mileage was 173,476. Kmj.
My wife was driving my 2004 Mercury Monterey around the perimeter of our local mall. Suddenly the van slowed, and she noticed the tachometer showed the rpms increasing as the pressed the accelerator. The van stopped dead. She had to call me to push the van into a parking space until we could have it towed the following day. The could have been extremely dangerous in traffic. I have a handicapped 19 year old daughter, and rely on this van for her transportation, so on top of the safety issue, this is a tremendous inconvenience for us.
Traveling on cruise control @ 70 mph in left lane of 4 lane divided hwy. . . . Vehicle started to slow down and rpm increased. Coasted to a stop to the shoulder across heavy traffic. Engine ran normally but vehicle would not move forward or aft on its own power. Dealership ideed problem as sheared shaft in transmission. Tranny was replaced at my cost with a Ford rebuilt (has same shaft part that sheared in the original). Have received initial recall notification but nothing else. Bottomline: no luck to date on recall.
Powertrain: front wheel bearings went out (squeeling sound) in 2006 with 8k miles on vehicle. A TSB was out for that issue and the wheel bearings(2) were replaced. The front bearings went out again in 2009 at about 27k miles. The vehicle was covered by a Ford esp. The dealer said that they couldn't hear the noise - the noise would come and go - so no repair was done at that time. I have the repair order stating "no problem found". Now at 35k miles the bearing noise has become much worse and much more frequent but now the warranty is over and it will cost about $700 to repair. What kind of poorly made bearings are these? body: in 2009 I noticed rust at the left rear wheel well area and it is now coming through the left quarter panel. There is also rust at the right rear wheel well area although it has not gone through the right quarter panel. Left and right front doors also rusting at the bottom facing the passenger compartment.
I backed out of a parking space and attempted to put my vehicle in drive. The vehicle would not go and had to be towed. I am told by the Ford dealership that the transmission needs to be replaced and it will cost aprox. $3,000. 00.
