This impact caused the vehicle to tilt to the drivers side, sliding for about 60 feet on its side then flipping over onto the roof sliding for another 40 or so feet before stopping. The firestone tires were taken off in August of 2000 and replaced with another brand. I have forgotten which they are but can find out. I have the full police report if you should request it. Failure Date: 07/18/2000

Left front tire on the inside and right front tire on the outside. . . . . The belts are broke on both tires and are coming through the tread. Wire is sticking out of tires and is causing the front end of vechicle to wobble. The tires are too the point where they are unsafe to drive on. I have the exact tire that is being recalled, the same brand and size but because it was not made in the decatur illinois plant, my tires are not being replaced. I have a 18 month old baby and every time that I have to drive my vehicle I constantly wonder if my tires will burst, causing an accident or a death. I believe that my tires should be included in this recall or at least be replaced. (dot number: w2hl426 tiresize: p235/75r15).

21 Tire problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2000

Vehicle started to vibrate, we checked all of the tires and saw nothing, continued to drive and eventually the vibration subsided some. Later noticed section of tread missing on back left tire. Took vehicle to authorized firestone dealer who immediately replaced defective tire and kept it. Gave us small credit toward new firestones. Bought firestone atx ii tires. Filed complaint with firestone and with tire dealer on 8/7/2000 for both sets of tires. Still have original 3 tires and original spare -never used- review of 3 shows what appears to be stress all around outer edge of tread. I was on the freeway with my son it was hot when we got off it sounded like I had a flat tire when we looked the half tread around and half width was raised way up so we took side roads home. The dealership told me it's firestones problem . . Firestone told me to pay $58. 75 for a new one so I did . . . No one ever checked the rest of my tires until I made them after the recall started one tire had 46lbs. In it the others were way off too. I am now stuck with a firestone tire thats not on the recall for my spare and I have purchased 4 goodyear tires to go on my car. I have sent away for the $400. I suposely get for the goodyear and I also asked for my $58. 75 for the tire that almost killed us. . . Never before the recall did the dealership or firestone have any concerns about the tires or the well being of the drivers as far as air pressure or a chance of faulty tires. . . . . . . . . I still loose $ on the tires but thank goodness I did not die w/ my baby on that day. . . . . . ( dot number: tire size: p235/75r15 ).

24 Tire problem

I had two firestone atx recalled tires replaced on 02 Mar 00 due to belts shifting within the tires. Two months later, on 12 Apr 00, two recalled firstone atx tires "delaminated" (within two hours of each other)while I was drving on I-10 through el paso, texas and through lordsburg new mexico. I live in southern az I was returning from a trip. I was going 75 mph when I heard a thumping noise. Pulled off the side of the road & discovered the tread on the left rear tire had peeled away. Drove 30 miles back to tucson & had spare put on. Went to sears and had tire replaced. ( dot number: tire size: p23575r15 ).

31 Tire problem

Failure Date: 07/01/1999

I was driving and my tire exploded and shredded. I have never seen a tire look like that. Firestone told me they found a nail in the tire but every flat tire I have ever ahd has never done that. It sounded like a small plane was landing on my car. In light of recent developments I am very happy that all that was damaged was he tire and the rim it was a terrfying experience. ( dot number: tire size: p23575rx15 ).

32 Tire problem

Failure Date: 09/26/1998

My lease exp on this vehicle 5/99 so I no longer have it. I was driving on a freeway approx 60 mph when I felt that my car was not gripping the road. I saw pieces of the tire disintegrating thru my rear view mirror. I pulled over and called Ford road svc. I reported to firestone, no interest in helping. Original tires on a Mercury, mountineer 1997. There was a small piece of concrete in the road, not a huge piece. Consumer had to run over it to avoid an accident, and the left front tire completely came apart. Burst and started to delalminate as other problem tires have. The dealer called it a road hazard and the customer paid for the replacement.

35 Tire problem

Tires exhibit cracks at the tread line (all four) and have not failed. I have since replaced them on my own but decided to report them anyway. I have hi-res photos and can e-mail them if you like. All media related to the tires that I have seen says that the cracks are signs of tires near failure. As my tires were not part of the recall, I chose not to take the chance. Please call / e-mail if interested. ( dot number: vnhl tire size: p235-75-15 ).
