Two problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 1998 Mercury Mountaineer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
1998 Mercury Mountaineer transmission repairs. There was no third gear and the transmission had to be replaced. Engine light stayed on and the egr sensor had to be replaced.
When driving heard a grinding noise. Had it repaired, grinding happened again. Currently, consumer can't put in drive only second.
