Purchased 2002 Mercury Mountaineer from Ford dealership in 2007. Transmission was slipping, took in two days later and still under warranty and informed new transmission put in. Transmission slips on my 2002 Mercury Mountaineer 6 cylinder awd. There is a common problem with this transmission throughout 2002 Mercury Mountaineer owners. Why has there been no recall on this transmission.

4 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2007

Transmission slipped between 2nd and 3rd gears,and between 3rd and 4th. Rpm raced high. Od light would flash, check engine light came on. Rpm's would race high, but the vehicle would not move, then suddenly catch. Transmission had to be rebuilt with only 56k miles. Two weeks in the shop, $600. Repair bill. Vehicle has been properly maintained at the dealership and has all service records.

5 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Dt: the vehicle's transmission slipped, jumped and made clunking noises while in park, reverse or while the consumer was driving. The vehicle was taken to the shop several times for numerous things such as the ignition switch. She took her vehicle to the shop this time and they said it was her transmission. Her vehicle only has 41000 miles. She started smelling a burning smell and that's when she took it into the shop. She has only had the vehicle 45 days and has already had all these problems.

6 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2004

The transmission slips. I was stoped at a red light, when the light turned green I put my foot on the gas but the vehicle did not move. I could hear the engine rev, but it was a few seconds before the vehicle moved. This has happened 4 times in 2 months. The prior owner traded the vehicle in due to this problem, she informed the dealership of the problem and requested that they fix it before selling the vehicle.

7 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2001

The vehicle transmission slipped, jumped and made clunking noises. The steering column locked up. The rear hatch fell onto the consumers head which resulted in retinal detachment and balance trouble. Pe04045. Pco.
