Upon driving on the freeway the inside dome lights came on and my seat started adjusting itself back and forth while driving.
While driving the vehicle, the seat suddenly went all the way back and the interior lights came on. This has happened several times since then, we finally figured out it was the ignition, with the car acting like the key just got put in the ignition or just pulled out, and the seat moving all the way back for easier ingress/egress and the courtesy lights coming on. Since I am only 5 foot 4 inches, when the seat moves back I can no longer reach the petals, a very dangerous situation while driving.

Also, the interior lighting illuminated on its own. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.
While driving between 50 - 65 miles per hour the electric driver seat will move back into the open door park position and the inside lights will come on. Has happened multiple times since October 2014. There is no set pattern, it is completely random.
I was driving my vehicle and the driver's seat moved back, and the dome light came on. This really scared me! thank god I wasn't on the highway traveling at a higher rate of speed with other vehicles when this occurred. The first time this happend was approximately 3 months ago (the seat moves back, I move the seat up & it goes back again, I move it up again. . . Until it finally stops). This continues to happen periodically every since.
I purchased this used vehicle which is in excellent shape and I love everything about it except the seat issue. After having the car for about a week the power seat started moving on its own. The interior lights will come on and the actual navigation/radio system and driving lights dim. I have looked online and this seems to be a constant problem and is basically the ignition area that needs to be replaced. I have almost been in a few accidents because of this and have 2 small children. My mother had to drive my car one day and she pulled over in complete fear because of almost wrecking. There has to be some type of recall to fix this problem. Every bump you hit this happens now. Multiple times in a 10 min drive. It is seriously dangerous. Please respond ASAP! thank you! kasey.
The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated that the front driver's seat moved back independently and the dome light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, who stated that they could not find a defect in the seating switch but the failure still persisted. The manufacture was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 66,600. Updated 3/14/cn.
2007 Mercury Mountaineer. Consumer writes in regards to acceleration and console lighting issues and problems with back windshield wipers.
If I hit a bump or pothole while driving, the driver's seat moves to the easy exit position the dome lights come on. Happens also if you bump the steering wheel or if you touch the key when it is in the ignition. It has happens while backing out in drive. Stalled the engine twice. Turning the key slightly will put the seat back into the set position. I am only 5' 5", so when the seat goes back while I am driving, I am moved too far away from the steering wheel and the brake and gas pedals. Mechanic inspection indicates it is a problem with the ignition switch and has quoted it as a $203 repair.
While driving on the freeway, the driver's seat moved backwards. I was unable to reach the brake or gas and was nearly in an accident as I was unaware as to what was going on. The dome lights and the exterior exit lights lit up as well. Since this date, this has happened numerous times. It is a major safety issue and should become a recall.
The inside dome lights and the lights on the outside side mirrors do not go off until 15 to 20 min's
after it has been alarmed this has run down my battery I had to buy a new battery.

There is a recurring problem that the seat will automatically go into the "easy exit" position. This is not a problem for me as I drive with the seat as far back as possible, but this is a huge safety concern for my wife. Why hasn't this been recalled yet? this seems to be a common problem in this make and model. God forbid the electrical problem worsens and causes a fire.
(day and mileage are approximate values). 2006 Mercury Mountaineer awd premier edition. In excess rainfall events, water leaks thru sunroof and down thru roof center lighting console. I've taken it to numerous places to have it evaluated. Upon receiving it from a used car dealer (respectable reputation) the sunroof leaked a day or two later. Took back to purchasing dealership and they removed entire sunroof assembly, cleaned and replaced all seals. The next rainstorm occurred and I was told to park downhill because there are very thin tubes and they clog easily, causing the water to pool up and leak thru, the center lighting console. I've even asked Ford and was told bring it to my local dealership for repair. Dealership says repair will be my responsibility, and also says it may not 100% repair since they would do same services the previous establishments performed (remove, clean tracks and tubes, reseal).

Bought used in wa state and live in NJ now. After purchasse it rained one night and next morning entire center console, overhead lights were all wet inside. Upon further investigation determined leak was sunroof. Notified dealer and they had a glass specialist remove the entire assembly and thoroughly clean. Replaced seal with new one and claimed no more leakage. A few days later it rained again (wa well known for always raining) and again the leak was present. The dealer's response was now 'park your vehicle with the front end downhill. There are tiny slots that direct the water down the corner pillars and apparently clog easily. So parking with front end downhill will relieve the water before it can pool up to leak.
Moved my truck to let another car out of the drive way. Pulled back in turned the truck off came in the house and heard a loud boom. Looked out the window and fire was shooting up by the wheel.

While driving the driver seat slides back into exit form and it is hard to reach the gas and brakes and the interior lights come on. This happens periodically while driving if you touch the ignition as if you are going to start the vehicle the seat will go back into place and the interior lights will go off.
Driver seat moves back into exit position and interior lights come on while driving. This happens at any speed periodically and while going over bumps. I am very short so when this happens I have a difficult time reaching the gas/brake. I have 4 young children and this is a very big safety issue while driving.
