2 Front Seat Belt problem of the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 08/06/2005

I flipped in my 2004 Mercury Mountaineer and hung upside down for an hour till someone came by because my seat belt would not release. The emt's could not even get it to release so they had to cut it off of me. I the thing released I could have crawled out the window and would not have had to have $12,000. 00 damage to my car because they would not let me crawl out and had to use the jaws of life to get me and the board out. I was told that this is how they are designed and I feel this is not a good thing. Had I landed in water or caught on fire I would have been dead before I was found.

3 Front Seat Belt problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 07/28/2005

Back lift shattered when closing, resulting in shattered glass in my hand, inside the car, on top of the car and all over the parking lot near other cars (everywhere) and brackets hanging from the wires on the top (it was raining outside!). I drove car to dealer who after initial questions and Ford approval then advised of recall and provided a replacement car during repairs but it took 6 weeks to repair. Amazing while the 6 week repairs of "waiting for parts" I got a recall notice in the mail (Aug 05). After bothering the dealer to get the car back, I was called to pick up the car and I was told the "check engine soon light" is coming on! when I picked it up, I not only see the light is intermittent coming on, but my electric window switches are not working to put the windows up and down (except the front passenger works fine) and the driver seat belt is not retracting correctly! this car is only 3 years old!!.

7 Front Seat Belt problem of the 2001 Mercury Mountaineer

Vehicle's rear end "kicked out" counter clockwise on steep downhill grades. The consumer was involved in a spin out accident where the rear end spun out clockwise on a steep downhill grade of snow. The consumer found the seat belt was not designed for small framed people approximately 5 feet 2 inches of height. The seat belt had come off the center/sternum and slipped under her arm pit, and did not lock down on the lap. The seat belt cut into the left side of the neck and during the accident the belt slipped off the consumer's chest to her arm pit. The dealer suggested the consumer use a clip.
