1. The hood closes apparently fine, it does not open if I try to, however keeps opening every 20 minutes after driving. I could not find the cause. 2. Very strong smell of gas keeps ocurring, no signs or drops or viisual leak puddle.

Shortly after buying this car last year, the throttle body failed at speed (approx 55), causing the car to accelerate uncontrolled on a curvy 2 lane highway. Had to break very hard against the surging engine to slow, and turn off engine with key to get car to stop. Very scary. Very dangerous. The Ford dealer in kingston, NY, did not tell me this was a known problem! towed, rented a car, and paid $420. 00 to repair.

My car has been a terrible liability since day one,I am ahndicapped and on a permanent budget,,I need to get this looked at and my car taken care of soon,im scared I may soon end up on foot if these horrid issues rnt rectified,,I bought my car from first class cars in salt lake city utah,,ive asked 4 times to get it traded in,,much to my shock they wouldnt even talk to me,,please help me!my car reves at times then while sitting stil it wil try to drive without me pushing the excelirator,,im scared it gonna leap out amy hands soon,,im terirfied of it!!.

While driving the Sable at approximately 25 mi. Per hr. (clear road,dry conditions)in congested traffic conditions. Going through a set of traffic lights,luckily the light had just turned green,,the vehicle suddenly surged up to 3000 rpm. Fortunately,going through the lights, my foot was near the brake pedal. When I heard and felt the acceleration ,I immediately hit the brake and kept my right foot on it as the vehicle continued to push forward with full brakes applied. Luckily the vehicle was under the brakes control,while still revvvving, I put the vehicle into neutral and pulled over,tuned ignition off. The front disc brakes were smoking. Opened hood,noticed nothing unusual, this is the only report of this incident. Will seek immediate cure today. This is my 66 y. O. Girl friend car. She is now horrified to use it! November 5,2015.

We recently purchased a 2008 Mercury Sable . We love this car and all of the options it has to offer,but the vapor lock light comes on and stays on and spits and sputters when it does this. When we completely fill the car with gas it stays on full for days then it drops to the halfway mark and thats when the vapor lock light comes on and stays on till we fill it up 2 or 3 times. . Same problem as the Ford recall on 2008 mecury Sable for has just recalled. I would like the option to have my car looked at because I think it is the same problem with the other Ford makes of cars! once the light comes on its likes it has flooded itself or something. But it is vernoticeable when driving.

The contact owns a 2000 Mercury Sable. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a fuel odor present inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 154,000.

Our sabel station wagon continued to accelerate after reaching highway speed. The brakes could not slow it, so I had to turn the ignition off to slow, and on again to regain brakes and steering. I was able to pull off the next exit and into the park and ride. Raising the hood I found the throttle cable housing was out of its socket and holding the throttle open. I put it back in and put some tape on it to keep it in. Koons Ford annapolis performed service bulletin no. : csp-13b04b on 26 July 2013 to correct this problem. The fix did not work. I drove my Mercury Sable 2000 today. Just seconds after I got off from a highway to a local road, my filled my car accelerated when I hit the brake. I had to hit the brake hard to stop the car in a traffic light. However, the engine rushed to 4000rpm. I switched to park gear and turned off the ignition. After a few seconds, I turned on the car again but the engine rushed to 4000rmp. Had no idea what happened. Wait for a minute and turned the car on again. Same problem exists. In the park position, I hit the gas pedal gently and the engine running back to normal. Then I was able to drive the car back home (~10miles). It was so scary and have no idea when this problem will come back again.

Accellorator stopped reponding and vehicle stalled shortly after.

Accelerator stuck. Vehicle accelerated when cruising on highway. Put it in neutral at exit from highway, stuck at 4000 rpm. Problem was accelerator cable. Ferrule broken in engine compartment and outer part of cable hung up on mounting bracket.

While driving down rd gas pedal stuck my daughter road the brake untill she could get off road . She called I work the linkage for the gas by hand that freed it up took it to my mechanic he took it for a test drive said its not releasing fast enought he tried a couple things vacume hoses and some other parts that did not solve the problem he went on line and found there has been problems with the cable and told me to call Ford.

We were backing out of a parking space & the car accelerated as though I had pressed the gas pedal. This is the third time this has happened, but the first time going in reverse. Both other times the car was in drive. The first time I was on the freeway and I assumed my foot had accidentally pushed the gas, so I ignored it. The second time I was on a county road, and again I assumed it was my fault. This is the first time I could have really hurt someone, and this could potentially be very dangerous.

Something drastically wrong with the radiator system, antifreeze is always brown, have it changed and in 1 day it turns brown. The windows have been broken in this car since 2005, the two front windows do not go up and down, I don't feel safe without the windows working. There is something wrong with the suspension and I constantly have to put air into my tires and tires wear out quickly because suspension is messed up. Windshield washer has not worked since 2003. If it was built with pride like the company says it is, it would be a nice car. Falls apart too easily. I need help.

After getting up to cruising speed on the highway my car would continue to accelerate even when I stopped giving it gas. I disconnected the cruise control cable and this fixed the problem, but now I can't use my cruise control.

2003 Mercury Sable with 20,000 miles on it. While driving at 60 mph, I stepped on the accelerator to pass a truck, I heard a thump and then the engine went to idle and we lost all power. We pulled over and found that the accelerator cable had snapped. I found a small piece of plastic on the floor that came from the mechanism. We were stranded 100 miles from the nearest city on a Sunday night. I subsequently asked the rental car manager if he had ever heard of this before and he said the same thing happened to a taurus he was driving. This, as I am sure you know a very dangerous situation - if we had been on a crowded interstate there would have been serious problems. We were lucky. Is there any record of this problem occurring. Judging by the plastic linkage I bet it has happened a number of times. Please let me know.
