1 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 11/11/2015

No accident, but the seat belt on the driver's side has started "latching" only on sporadic occasions. It doesn't latch more times than it does latch. The are times when you have successfully latched the seatbelt, it will come unlatch end while the car is moving. This has now been occurring for about a month.

2 Seat Belt problem of the 2004 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 11/21/2014

The driver side, three point seat belt assembly comes unlatched while the vehicle is in motion. This is even after the belt tongue is in place, you hear a click from the latch closing and locking and the belt has been pulled on to test the connection. I took it to the dealership today and the attendant said that the seat belt latch was likely not working due to normal wear and tear. The vehicle is 10 years old and has less than 200,000 miles and is very much still drivable. The dealership tried to charge the vehicle owner over $300. 00 for the repair and will not repair without payment. The seat belts should be guaranteed to work properly over the life of the vehicle. This is not an expensive fix as very few people drive their cars over 120,000 miles as is.

10 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 02/14/2011

2003 Mercury Sable wagon -- the seat belts in the middle seat of the car no longer retract. They hang loosely and would certainly be a grave danger to any passenger should the car experience a crash or rollover. They have been repaired by the dealer already, but now the dealer recommends replacement of the entire retraction mechanism. Seems to be a very common and very dangerous problem in Mercury Sables and taurus wagons from what I've read. Hey Ford, hope you give a damn about your products and customers enough to do something about this!.

11 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Mercury Sable

The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 100,000.

12 Seat Belt problem of the 2001 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 06/30/2010

The seat belt retraction systems in almost all vehicles will fail to retract the seat belt after a few years of use. The seat belts then hang out the car or truck door and get smashed when the door is closed. The seat belt eventually gets frayed and loses some of it's ability to properly restrain when needed. The retraction spring weakens and no longer retracts the seat belt.

18 Seat Belt problem of the 1999 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 07/01/2003

20 Seat Belt problem of the 1997 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 04/15/2003

I should have learned that Sable was a bad car after the engine of my mother's '87 Sable exploded, caught fire and busted through the floor of the car beside the gas pedal and brake (1993). Luckily she was not in the car. The engine had been off and sitting in park for five minutes when this happened. I bought my 97 Sable in 2001. I have never had a car with so many constant problems. I spend about $1200 a year fixing it continually. I'm currently having electrical problems with the radio going out while in reverse or when I press the brake. The window on the passenger side won't move up or down unless the driver and the passenger press the buttons at the same time. The interior light stays on, so we have to unplug the fuse to get it to go off. The seat belt safety light and the window button lights keep clicking on and off. Once again, the steering wheel is hard to turn even though the power steering fluid is at the right level. I have to get the wheels aligned several times a year. The car always makes a humming noise and does not block out the sound of wind. The shoulder straps of seat belts alway lock into place too tight. Name the problem. . . I've probably been through it. I will never buy another Ford/ Mercury again even if it is the #1 selling car.

21 Seat Belt problem of the 1997 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 01/01/2002

Front driver's side seat belt will not stay fastened. Cause is unknown. Please provide any further inforrmation.

22 Seat Belt problem of the 1997 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 02/01/2000

On my 1997 Mercury Sable the passenger seat belt constantly jams and takes forever to disengage. I am guessing the jam is somewhere between the interior and exterior of the plastic of the car. Where the seat belt locks the belt in place near the door. Any questions please call me.

23 Seat Belt problem of the 1998 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 01/04/1998

Seat belt failed. Yh.

24 Seat Belt problem of the 1998 Mercury Sable

The failure of the five point harness (maker: costco, model: 20448bng, made: 03-03-00) fails in the regard that the chest clip is easily slid down by the child enabling them to free their arms. This creates enough slack in the straps that they can conceivably free their legs from the restraint and, indeed, their enire body.

25 Seat Belt problem of the 1997 Mercury Sable

The seat belt always locks up on the passenger side front. It's a safety issue because the belt always jams and Mercury dealership won't do a thing since its no longer under warranty unless you got $200. 00. I heard Ford had similar problems on their other Ford/Mercury products, which my car isn't under recall. On the engine light matter. If you forget to put on the gas cap or raditior cap on or something very minor. The engine light will come on. I noticed this will happen also with my dad's taurus also. I have heard this happens to all 1995 or newer cars. Thing is most people see the engine light on and go right to the mechanic which can be costly in repairs if really the repair is not necessary because its something minor like a gas cap not tightened. Maybe the auto company's found a new way to rip us off? what do u think?.

26 Seat Belt problem of the 1999 Mercury Sable

Problems with safety belt becoming undone after being secured. When the seat belt latch was pushed into the socket firmly it occasionally popped out. It had to be pushed into position then juggled in order for it to latch correctly. The belt would also tighten so snugly on the occupant that they could not lean forward to adjust the dash controls or see through the mirrors.

27 Seat Belt problem of the 1999 Mercury Sable

Vehicle's driver side seat belt defective. When pushed into the socket to secure the driver, it would pop out and would not remain unless forced. The belt would also tighten and fit snug to the point where the driver was unable to lean forward. (the consumer would be unable to see if anyone was coming) the dealer would not fix the vehicle.

28 Seat Belt problem of the 1996 Mercury Sable

While driving the passenger's side automatic seat belt locks up, causing consumer to release belt from buckle so that seat belt can unlock. Cause unknown.
