1 Side/rear Glass problem of the 1998 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 12/17/2004

The cabin air filter equipment leaks rainwater into the vehicle on the passenger side. This creates an excessive amount of moisture in the vehicle, hence causing excessive fogging of the window glass, obstructing the driver's view of the road, presenting the opportunity for collision due to reduced visibility.

2 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2002 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 10/06/2004

While driving to work on one of the first "cold" days this fall, my wife had the right rear window implode into the back seat. There was no apparent projectile, no forewarning other than a light crackling noise before the glass rained into the car.

3 Side/rear Glass problem of the 1999 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 03/12/2003

Arriving home from dinner, found rear glass of my 1999 Mercury Sable wagon had exploded. There was glass all over my drive way. The glass was found up to 5 feet from the vehicle. Police investigated and determined that the rear glass panel in fact exploded from the inside of the vehicle outward, probably due to a change in temperature.

4 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2002 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 04/18/2002

The left rear window suddenly imploded into the car, shattering into several hundred small pieces. There was no rock or other projectile. The temperature contrast between inside and outside was not great.

5 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2000 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 01/25/2000

While driving down the freeway the back window shattered. There is no apparent reason for it. The glass also broke into slivers. I was under the impression that auto's had to had safety glass to prevent injuries? the dealer states it is tempered glass but this window shattered for no reason and then the glass splintered and fell into the car. Covering the back of the car and thank goodness that my 5 year old daughter was in the front seat or she would have been seriously injured. As it is we still had to use tape to remove the small slivers of glass from her cheek.
