When the gas pedal was pressed, there was a delay in acceleration. The consumer had to pump the gas pedal to get the vehicle to move. Dealer cleaned dirty throttle body. Blower only worked on high. Failed resistor replaced. Left front door panel was peeling and had to be replaced.

Consumer states that the door locks by itself after the door is shut.

Sliding door will not stay latched while driving, door would come open intermittently. Dealer was notified. Feel free to provide any further information concerningthis matter.

When the consumer tried to close the door, the sensor failed and the sliding door closed on the consumer hand.

All of the doors lock by themselves. It has happened many times. We can be out of the car or in it. The keys can be out of the ignition. It usually happens when we are parked but it has also happened when we were driving. There have been numerour times whenwe have tried to unlock the car with the remote and it "quickly" locks itself back up; this may repeat itself for or five times before we can get into the car.

Power locks would lock all the doors when getting out of vehicle,when the door is closed it locks all doors, dealer was notified, and no repairs were made.

Door locks will lock automatically. This can happen when rolling down the window/ opening doors or closing doors. Consumer does not know when it's going to happen. Consumer has contacted dealer.

Sliding door opens while driving/does not lock and unlock properly.

Passenger and sliding door locks failed to engage or disengage with or without keyless entry system or internal locking system used. I have had the sliding door locks actuator changed at my expense. The passenger door lock actuator needs to be replaced also. Actuators emit a grinding sound when keyless entry system or internal locking system is engaged and takes several (5) times to engage or disengage.

The doors will lock automatically with the key in the ignition or not. We had a baby in the car and the doors automatically locked. This has been a problem since 35,000 miles recently Ford told us their was a recommend fix - service message 11243 because of numerous complaints but it is not a recall. As a safety professional I think this is outrageous - potential entrapment of small children without adequate escape mechanism ( not breaking the window) is a concern.

The power locks have self-activated on 20+ occassions. It is not on a regular basis, but is intermittent. This has been occuring for the last month or six weeks. The air bag light has been flashing for the last two months.

Vehicles power door locks will activate and lock doors on its own. The doors have locked with children in car and when no one was in car. Mainly does it when the drivers door has just been shut.

Doors lock on their when driving, standing still, when I shut the doors. No warning. Keys must be in someones hands at all times to keep from being locked out. Also when unlocking the door it takes at least 3-4 times of continuious operation to get it to stay unlocked. Dealer was contacted several times. Aug 2001 a fix sheet had arrived at the dealer - moisture in window switch. Repair cost - part $300 plus labor.

Automatic door locks are working intermittently. Consumer's child was locked in the vehicle, and they couldn't get the child out.

We started reporting the problem with the sliding door on 7/15/99. The lock did not lock or unlock consistently whether using the remote or the inside automatic button and the door rattled like something was loose inside. The service dept at capitol Lincoln Mercury(richmond, va) decided to replace the antenna on 8/16. This did not correct the problem. On 10/4, I took it back again and they replaced the sliding door lock actuator. This corrected the problem with the door locking/unlocking but now, the child safety lock is stuck and the door still rattles. ****I initially reported a problem with the steering wheel shimmeying and the brakes grabbing on 8/16. They reported the brakes were okay - 5mm. I had the tires replaced and aligned which took 3 days because they didn't realize that they only had 3 tires. The steering wheel continued to shimmey so I took it back on 10/13. The weights had fallen off so they had to rebalance the tires. They also stated the the vibration when braking would be fixed by turning the front rotors which they did. They stated that with the turning of the rotors that I should replace my brakes which I did. . . For $55. 83. The next day, 10/14, I took the van back because it sounded like something was rubbing under the car. This problem was corrected by replacing the rotors that they turned the previous day. Currently, the steering wheel still shimmies just not to the extent as before. I'm taking it back again on 10/20.

All doors automatically lock on their own. Cannot get in or out unless key is used. Also would beep & honk on its own. The air bag light would also come on. Had taken to dealer & mechanic can not repair problem.

Power locks lock on their own, w/or w/o key in ignition, sheriff's office had to jimmy to get my 2 year old out. She was restrained by car set. Repeated attempts to get repaired by dealer. Intermittent self activation of the power door locks. It locked our 22 month old in vehicle after child was strapped into car seat and van door was closed. My wife, luckily, had removed the key from the ignition before she picked up baby. In hot weather my wife would have left the van running with the a/c on and our daughter would have been locked in an automobile that was running and the keys in the ignition. There are 3 TSB's covering this defect, but Ford will not repair the problem at their cost. I have a friend with a 1993 Villager that has the same problem. We have had to hide a key on vehicle in case we are locked out of the vehicle and our daughter is locked in.

Doors lock automatically when consumer is outside of vehicle. Dealer was contacted, and stated they had no corrective action for this matter.

I have had numerous problems with the locking system on this vehicle. The door locks will lock on their own at inopportune times. They will lock when doors are shut, or when driving over a bump in the road. At times, they will immediately lock back when attempting to unlock the vehicle, making it difficult to enter or exit the vehicle. I have been told by a service manager that they have had bulletins out on this problem. The dealership where I bought the vehicle has made five attempts to fix the problem to no avail. The last time it was in the shop, they replaced the actuator, and the sec timer. However the locking system is still not working. I was told that Ford knows that there is a problem, but they have no fix for it at this time.

Driving down the road at approximately 15mph engine stalls. Also when opening passenger's side door something triggers inside the lock mechanism, which causes the door to automatically lock.

Electronic door locks malfunctioned when closing the door. After installing css and coming to the driver's door, all the door locks were in locked position with the children inside. Common problem. Dealer said that the seams were not adequately closed around the door locks, causing water to enter, and resulting in a short circuit. A TSB bulletin was issued on this reoccurring problem. Dealer improved the seal and problem still occurs.

The doors would automatically lock on their own after getting in or out of vehicle. There is no remote lock release. Happened at least 7 different times. Manufacturer admits a problem exists, but does not know how to correct it.

I have contacted you before & talked to peggy about the side door of the Villager opening. The vechical is leased and being returned 12/14/98 I sent you pics of the inner workings of the door- touching the styroform also makes the door open & a little round thing does too other than just the rod that I told you already. Dealership refuses to fix panel saying I "abused the vechical" ifeel this is a serious saftey issue since the vechical is designed for families. Thank you.

The power door lock system engages on its own at unpredictable times and occasions when the engage button has not been touched. For example, the locks have frequently engaged right after the doors have been closed and even if the engine is not running and the ignition is not on; at the same moment the front door access latches are pulled; and when the vehicle is parked and no one is in it and it is not running. Our problem is identical to the problem reported by cbs evening news on September 7, 2001 (network television news). According to the news report, this problem occurs not only with the Mercury Villager, but also the Nissan quest.

The locks on my Villager operate erratically. They will lock automatically, when they are unlocked they may immediatly relock themselves and sometimes the cause the door to jam. I saw this information reported on cbs 11 tv in dallas just this week and my van does exactly as the vans they were showing on the report. This problem has been happening for about a year, and is worse during warm weather.

While traveling doors lock and unlock out of control. Also while vehicle is turned off. Power lock system is defective while vehicle is running or shut down, consumer states locks are inoperable, dealer refuses to replace system and they have not been able to repair it. Consumer states vehicle had engine problems two days after purchase.

Creak/squeaking noise comes from all side doors of the van. Same noise came from back liftgate, but after several trips to the dealer was eventually fixed. The van has been in the shop approximately 6 times for the noise from the side doors. They have not been able to fix it yet.
