Mercury Villager owners have reported 11 problems related to fuel pump (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Mercury Villager based on all problems reported for the Villager.
Vehicle has stalled without warning at least 12 times over several years. This happens at any speed and has always happened in hot weather. The last several times were on a busy, curvy highway with no room to pull off road and almost led to an accident. The Villager's fuel pump becomes very noisy when trying to restart engine. After about 15 to 20 minutes it will restart. Please inform me of what the problem could be. It has never happened in cold weather. I am afraid an accident could happen. There is no warning at all.

Vehicle has stalled 7-8 times at any speed, dealer cannot remedy the problem. *akwhile starting the vehicle, consumer smells gas, the fuel pump failed, consumer had it replaced, and is seeking reimbursement.
Might be worth looking into the fuel pump system on this vehicle. Original was replaced 4/2/2001 and replacement pump starting to fail late in November 2001. Dealer/Ford not working with customer since 3000 miles over warranty (even though we are within 12 mo. Period). Just seems weird that two fuel pumps would fail within that short a time frame.
There was a strong fuel smell when starting vehicle. Fuel pump was replaced .
Fuel pump failed.

Vehicle stalling due to faulty fuel pump.
Fuel pump failed after the ac failed----a very strong gas odor starting vehicle up.
When replacing the air conditioner for this vehicle, the fuel pump also needed replacing. There has been a smell of gasoline for a while in this vehicle.
There is a strong fuel smell when starting vehicle. A noise can be heard from fuel tank area. Dealer stated fuel pump failed. However there is a recall campaign 00v419002 regarding fuel leakage of the fuel tank.
