Vehicle was in motion on a highway and, after going over several pot holes, the engine temperature warning light came on. The engine power was reduced, and the engine failure light also appeared. This is when I pulled over into the off ramp, and the vehicle came to a sputtering stop. I placed the car in neutral and pushed it to the dirt side lane of the off ramp. I opened the hood, smelled something burning, and saw smoke coming from the engine. I could see burnt circuits, burnt plastic, and coolant leaking all over the engine and exposed wiring. Had it not been for immediately exiting onto the off ramp, the vehicle would have stopped in the middle of the highway without warning. I could have almost died because of the fire; this faulty engineering by BMW/Mini has already taken the life of a driver in south korea. BMW issued a recall of the 2012 Mini Cooper s roadster, but when I had the car towed to one of their service centers, the technicians were unaware of this manufacturing defect and stated that the repair parts are unavailable. I see that my vehicle has been recalled, but when I type in my VIN, no recall is attached to my vehicle. BMW/Mini is taking no action; they are harming and killing drivers of its vehicles.

My vehicle suddenly stopped in traffic on a city street when I was driving 40 mph and would not run. No warning lights came on at all. It was very scary. I had it towed to a repair facility who advised that the tensioner that secure the timing chain failed and ruined the engine. In may, I had a water pump failure that I had repaired and I understand there have been lawsuits on both, Mini tells me my vehicle is not part of that lawsuit that only convertibles were covered for that year. They gave me a number to be reimbursed for the pump. I still owe $6k and the car is toast. ;-(.

Problem with the transmission. Transmission does not shift properly downshifts at high speeds causing the engine to rev really high. Jolts a lot on the speed changes. Having signs indicative of transmission failure.

64,000 miles - winter 2017 my 2013 Mini Cooper paceman sall4 was taking on water in the boot- didnt know if it was from melting snow etc. In car. Dried out. Water came back and flooded back seat floor. Brought to Mini- they told me I had a taillight seal leak which caused water to get down into the car which fried a computer system that controlled my awd and other things. Awd is not optional where I live. My warranty had just ended. The quote for the work was thousands of dollars. I contacted Mini corporate they offered to cover 15% of the bill. I denied that and claimed it on my insurance which now shows negatively against my car. I didnt even know a taillight seal could leak? then to have a computer get fried as a result of it. This is a Mini defect, I should not have had to pay for it. Not to mention my car was in the shop for several weeks of repair. They had to completely take the car apart to dry everything out, order parts and replace it all.

Base model blue tooth telephone interface without on-board voice control disables phone hands free function (e. G "siri" on iphone) inviting distraction to use phone functions. Common also on similarly equipped BMW models. This was not the case with earlier year models with similar equipment.

The metal cladding on the passenger door handle detached and when I grabbed the handle to get into the car the metal cut into my index finger, requiring 5 stitches to close the wound. The car was stationary and parked in my space on private property.

We purchased this all-new model in March 2016 and have been unable to ascertain a crashworthiness rating through your administration or the iihs. I once assumed that these tests were conducted prior to the public sale of automobiles. How long must a consumer wait for a test to be conducted? the insurance companies seem to depend heavily on these evaluations when determining their rates.

After my car was involved in an accident I was made aware that the Mini VIN number indicates that my Mini is a 2 door model in most data resources for evaluation purposes. But I have the Mini 4 door hardtop model! how could that not be indicated with a 4d instead of the 2d in this models VIN #?.

Twice since buying my car in may if 2016 I have badly burned my leg on the tailpipe while getting bags out of the trunk. I was not even reaching into the trunk particularly deeply. The tailpipe protrudes beyond the bumper and it is very easy to inadvertently bump it with one's leg if wearing shorts. This is dangerous to adults, but also especially dangerous for children helping their parents get things out of the car. I have photos of the burns if you need them.

It's the engine burned up was driving car got hot started smoking and the engine burned up very disappointed didn't even finish paying for it.

Car was bought brand new and taken to the dealership for service. Infact it was serviced just a few thousand miles before this happened. My mother was driving on the high way coming home from work then it spontaneously combusted and exploded. Had she not noticed the flames she would have died. This is not okay.

Drove car about 4 miles. Parked at shopping center, turned off car and locked it. Returned 15 mins later to find flames in engine compartment!.

I purchased my 2008 Mini Cooper 3 years ago and it's currently around 78k my car was diagnosed with timing chain stretched and possibly engine damage. However Mini Cooper USA doesn't want to reimburse the money I'd pay out of pocket myself.

Both front wheel bearings failing at 23,000 miles. . . Ridiculous.

Two tires that came with my Mini Cooper 2014 went flat in less than 7,500 miles, one on Nov 7, 2015 and the other on Jan 3, 2016. The tires are very expensive (about $200 per tire) and of very low quality. As a customer I feel being cheated on.

My vehicle started experiencing mechanical issues at 78000 miles. These issues included the water pump, thermostat housing and most concerning the passenger airbag system. I was able to afford the out of pocket expenses for the thermostat and water pump which was around 2500$ I later got a letter about the water pump regarding a class action. Which I'm hoping to be reimbursed for. So the airbag . . . =( . . I've made several attempts to have Mini willingly look into the complaint with the airbag system. I cannot get a reasonable response from them regarding my complaint. I am directed to go to my local Mini dealer. When having the other repairs done they would not permanently enable the airbag system but could "look" at it for 125$ since others have quoted this repair costing upwards of 2000$ I declined. I had to pay for the other repairs. Many other vehicles have an over ride for this being a key. I don't understand why this isn't being addressed with previous recalls and many consumer complaints. The passenger airbag system comes on and off intermittently as described in other complaints. I'm only adding my complaint in hopes that it helps myself and others resolve the issue. I want to also note that I purchased several warranties with this vehicle. Which were not honored and cannot get a refund for. One warranty included damage to the seats and would be repaired. I feel like these warranties should be reimbursed since no work is being done in regards to all the issues I've had.

I was driving the car for a 300 miles trip, never had an issue before. After stopping in san antonio the fans kept running for at least 15min. Stopped at a conveinience store and topped off coolant which wasnt missing any and checked the oil level and added one quart of oil. Taking on the trip to austin TX, the car was running fine at 70mph when my low oil light came on. Ten seconds later pulled to the side and smoke started coming from the engine. Less than a minute later on the side of the road and fire started blazing throughout the car burning all our belongings.

2007 Mini Cooper hardtop purchased may 7, 2015 suffered major engine failure due to manufacturer defective timing chain & timing tensioner issues, resulting in loud ticking inside of the engine on the passenger side. . Estimates totaling up to $2400. 00 in repairs. . . . . Vehicle at this point is inoperable.

Lost power stearing, heat and air all at the same time.

My 2015 Mini Cooper 4 door hardtop was parked in my garage. I started it but had not put it into gear yet. I opened the door and got out (car didn't budge) and as I walked back towards the rear, the car lurched out of park and reversed which caused it to pin me in between the car and the garage beam as it continued to roll quickly backwards as if someone was accelerating. When contacting Mini, they had one of their inspectors come (no documentation provided to me). I was called (again no documentation) and told that the engineer found no fault in the transmission or electrical system and that this was not a defect. They have since been unresponsive with providing documentation, haven't been ale to acquire parts to fix my damaged vehicle and refuse to acknowledge that there is something wrong with selling a car that can kill people and to not have parts for 4 months! I had my car for a total of 2 months total drive time. It's been in the shop for 4 months with no resolution in sight.

On Thursday,July 30, 2015 my husband was headed to work. He was rear ended while he was at a complete stop. He was diagnosed with severe whiplash and has sustained injuries. The insurance company for the person who hit my husband admitted fault immediately. Two vehicle inspections were done by an adjuster. My husband was driving a Mini Cooper and he was rear ended. The adjuster informed him that the vehicle did not have a steel plate. Hence, the impact to the back of his vehicle may have been much greater. After speaking with an advisor at the concord, CA Mini Cooper dealer, I learned that the steel plate in the Mini Cooper is standard and a required safety feature. The Mini Cooper was purchased from carmax. Com ( carmax in fairfield, CA ). My concern and question is whether on not carmax knew this and do they generally sell used vehicles that do not meet standard safety requirements. I have not contacted carmax about this. Thank you.

I was getting on interstate still on the on ramp when my Mini died and started smoking with no warning. Had to have it towed. Insurance stated it was an electrical wire fire so it isn't covered under insurance. Can Mini pay to have it fixed? the manufacturer should be held liable. I already had to get a new water pump last year that wasn't covered either. These aren't cheap vehicles yet they expect us to pay for the mistake that we did not cause! paid $18k for this car and have put over $3k for repairs with less the 80k miles. Come on Mini Cooper this is terrible business! in my profession if I were to sell a defective part for an oil rig, I would have to replace it even years later. This goes for any profession!.

Power steering problems, air bag off and on, clutch went out near accident, electrical issues(many) windows up and down on their own, ever brake not working properly numerous items I have them detailed on paper.

While driving in the highway, the car suddenly started shaking and having loud clunking rattling noise. The exhaust was spewing heavy white smoke. The car suddenly slowed and then stopped with " drivetrain malfunction. " we also got into an accident!.

Cpsc: Mini Cooper: consumer stated the cruise control would disengage.

After sitting in the parking lot for 12 hours, the car spontaneously burst into flames. The car was a total loss.

In September of 2014, the check engine light of my 2009 Mini Cooper came on. I took the car in for service at the Mini Cooper dealership in fife, washington and was told the timing chain needed to be replaced. When I purchased the vehicle new I was told the timing chain would remain maintenance-free throughout the full running life of the engine. Obviously this was not the case. All maintenance has been performed at the Mini Cooper dealership in fife since I purchased it new in October 2008.

The car stopped at the stop sign as usual, however, the engine didn't start again. However, it's only 7 years. I called the BMW service to report the issue. They refused to solve the problem. . . I'd done some researches online. And, I've found that many other Mini's owners had found the same problems. Can government do something to protect the customers ? thanks.

Leg burn from hot exhaust pipe while unloading items from trunk. Leaned against rear bumper with bare leg.

Gear shift completely became detached at speed. Two magazines have had same issue. This could easily cause a fatal accident if it happened to someone that isn't as calm as myself. I got in my vehicle and shut the door. I turn the key to on, the locks went down (locks usually go down when car is in gear and moving) I turned the key further to start the engine and nothing happened. The door would not open, the windows would not go down, the sun roof would not open, the fob would not work, at that point I was locked in my car. I had to kick out the window to get out of my car. When I did get out, I re entered the car and opened the hood and jiggled the battery connection. I shut the hood and tried to start the car again and it started. I noticed as I was driving it home that the lights on the steering collum were not working and that when I parked it at home the break lights stayed on.

On two occasions when driving, the auto start and stop function shut the engine off, where I had to put the car in park & restart it. Happened once on a flat surface and once on a downhill slop at a stop. Also, I've only had the car one month and the drivetrain light came and the Mini service repair says it was fault #20a503 with the water pump. Please advise!.

The transmission in my car failed when I was trying to go through a green light. There were no prior warning signs that the transmission was going to stop working. I was left stranded in the middle of an intersection because of this. I was nearly hit several times because of my location. When I spoke to the Mini dealer they told me that this was a know problem and there was nothing they could do about it and that this was a known problem with this type of transmission.
