I do not own this type of vehicle, but I am in the automotive industry. I have attached 3 photographs of a clutch release fork for this vehicle. Note the red arrows on the photos. Please not the photo of the new clutch release fork and the stamping flaw the arrows are pointing to. Now look at the other broken clutch forks and where the break occurred. The break occurred at the same position on the fork. This needs to be investigated as a safety concern. If the fork breaks while driving the vehicle the driver would not be able to shift the vehicle and/or the clutch would stay engaged while trying to apply the brakes increasing the possibility of a crash.

Half engine light come on during driving while change lane on the freeway, and going up hell. Not losing power turbo working fine. Dealer replace vacuum pump but not fix the problem. Half engine light come off when you drive from park while pressing the gas pedal increasing rpm to 15oo, on the freeway or up on the hell the half light come back on. Dealer can not diagnose the problem.
64,000 miles - winter 2017 my 2013 Mini Cooper paceman sall4 was taking on water in the boot- didnt know if it was from melting snow etc. In car. Dried out. Water came back and flooded back seat floor. Brought to Mini- they told me I had a taillight seal leak which caused water to get down into the car which fried a computer system that controlled my awd and other things. Awd is not optional where I live. My warranty had just ended. The quote for the work was thousands of dollars. I contacted Mini corporate they offered to cover 15% of the bill. I denied that and claimed it on my insurance which now shows negatively against my car. I didnt even know a taillight seal could leak? then to have a computer get fried as a result of it. This is a Mini defect, I should not have had to pay for it. Not to mention my car was in the shop for several weeks of repair. They had to completely take the car apart to dry everything out, order parts and replace it all.

The contact owns a 2015 Mini Cooper. While attempting to unlock the trunk with key fob, the trunk failed to unlock. The contact started the vehicle in the hope that it would unlock the trunk. When the contact began to walk towards the rear of the vehicle, it began to roll despite the emergency brake being activated. The vehicle continued to roll over a large curb and landed into the foundation of a neighboring home. The vehicle received damage to the rear bumper and undercarriage. The contact was able to drive the vehicle back home. The contact stated that the brake and drive train warning indicators were illuminated. The contact notified the insurance company and dealer. The dealer was unable to identify the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 14,000.

Front driver seat occupant detection mat doesn't seem to be working correctly as it doesn't detect sometimes when there is an occupant. Second issue is the cvt transmission of this vehicle. I get a jerking motion every now and then and found a class action lawsuit linked with these transmissions. I purchased this car after this lawsuit but apparently this particular vehicle was not taken care of. My vehicle only has 70,000 miles on it and find this unacceptable.

Once the car warms up the automatic transmission lurches when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd and 3rd gear. The engine still accelerates, however, the transmission simply whines and no power is distributed to the wheels. Very unsafe when pulling out in traffic. Mini advertised these vehicles as never requiring transmission fluid changes. The vehicle has less than 100,000 miles. No recall exists, however, the issue is well documented on web forums.

I purchased a new 2008 Mini Cooper from autohaus west/Mini of st louis. The Mini Cooper was designed, manufactured, assembled, distributed and sold by BMW of north America, BMW (u. S. ) holding corp. , and bayerische motoren werke aktiengellschaft. I experienced a progressive failure of the timing chain, timing chain tensioner and related tensioner rail, guide rail and support rail. The timing chain had previously been represented to have a useful life equal to the life of the car. The timing chain is located within the engine, consists of a metal chain, and is not subject to adjustment or routine maintenance. I experienced a progressive failure of the timing chain as follows: (a) death rattle or diesel noise from engine upon start up & at low speeds, (b) rough idling after highway driving, (c) power loss & engine stalls on highway exit ramps, (d) power loss & engine stalls on highway, & (e) catastrophic engine failure. The Mini Cooper was serviced by autohaus west on three separate occasions with repairs//replacement of spark plugs, battery, igniter coils, thermostat cover and other items totaling over $3,000. Autohaus west failed to identify the timing change as a problem. Autohaus west, BMW of north America, llc, BMW (u. S. ) holding corp. , and bayerische motoren werke aktiengellschaft have known about the timing chain tensioner defect since 2007 and have failed to warn consumers, issue a recall or provide extended warranty coverage. The loss of power & engine stalls are serious safety hazards & will eventually lead to accidents, injuries & even death. Technical service bulletin m110207 was issued in January, 2008. However, it is not widely known to consumers and fails to give consumers adequate warning. BMW settled class action re n14 engine used in Mini Cooper s. However, it has ignored same problem with n12 engine used in Mini Cooper. Same issues.
The contact owns a 2006 Mini Cooper. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle started losing power. The accelerator pedal was being depressed with no response. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and was able to be driven home at a low rate of speed. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.
To make you aware of a potential safety problem. The 2006 Mini Cooper cvt transmission has had numerous failures. A California judge recently ruled in favor of a class action suit against BMW(Mini Cooper). We just became aware of the transmission going out in our car. It still runs and shifts but our concern is that it could quit at an inopportune time and cause an accident. Mini has shown no moral or ethical interest in replacing the transmission at no cost or reduced cost to the consumer.
2007 Mini Cooper sold to me with a bad timing chain, timing tensioner, cams and engine.

I was driving on an interstate and a warning reading "drivetrain malfunction. Drive moderately" came on. Power was low (couldn't get the car over about 60 mph, not safe on an interstate with steady traffic) and car was somewhat chuggy. This car has three times in under 8000 miles told me the oil was low and it was critically necessary for me to add a quart, which seems related. After stopping and calling Mini (who told me they would send a tow truck if the light had been red, rather than yellow) and starting the car back up some 20ish minutes later, no warning. Unsure when the next warning in this new car will come up, but Mini says there is an issue with oil filter housings.

Driving home from work as usual, I was exiting the highway when I felt a jolt from the engine compartment, the engine seemed to sputter and as soon as I slowed down to 30 mph or so the car would not shift back up to the higher gears. Luckily I was only a quarter mile from home so I put the hazard lights on and drove very carefully into my driveway. I put the car in park and got out to look under the hood to see if anything was drastically wrong ( any leaks, smoke, etc. ). Nothing appeared to be malfunctioning so I put the car back into drive and instantly stalled the engine . I then called a tow truck to have it towed to my local Mini Cooper dealership to diagnose the issue. I was told it would need an entirely new cvt transmission.
The contact owns a 2003 Mini Cooper. The contact stated that the gear shifter failed to move when attempting to operate the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 158,000.

While driving in the highway, the car suddenly started shaking and having loud clunking rattling noise. The exhaust was spewing heavy white smoke. The car suddenly slowed and then stopped with " drivetrain malfunction. " we also got into an accident!.
I have a relatively new Mini Cooper (2010 hatchback) with 51,000 miles. Recently, I started hearing a rattling noise coming from the passenger side of the vehicle. Upon doing a search online, I came across hundreds of other owners who experience the same exact issue - know as the death rattle, the tensioner and timing chain comes apart (a known manufacturing defect) and can cause the car to either stall while in motion and cause catastrophic damage - as the chain is metal. The issue has received significant attention and extreme frustration - leading Mini to try to silently address the issue on a one-off basis rather than issuing a voluntary recall. For customers who complain (even when the vehicle is out of warranty), Mini has been paying for having the timing chain/tensioner fixed. For the hapless consumers that do not know, either they pay thousands of dollars to have the vehicle fixed or find themselves in an accident. Mini Cooper is allowing a known manufacturing defect to continue unaddressed and for thousands of consumers who have a relatively new vehicle could be subject to extreme risk - if the timing chain/tensioner fails due to a manufacturer defect. . On my 2004 Mini Cooper, base, with cvt, it the rpms jump to ~3800 between 50-65 mph. When I accelerate to above 65, the rpms return to the normal range. Upon slowing down, the rpms then jump again between 50-65.

Driving on the freeway, car lost oil pressure suddenly, oil poured out of vehicle, smoking as warning lights indicated "drive train malfunction" and then, "loss of oil pressure: stop vehicle". Diagnosed as a failure of a welding on the oil pump housing. Mini replaced part and returned car to me. Within 1 mile, "drive train malfunction" ignited again. A week later, they reported that there were metal shavings in the oil and the engine needed to be replace. I sold it back to Mini as a lemon.
Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Mini Cooper. The contact stated her transmission light illuminated on the contact's instrumental panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. On 08/13/2014, I was driving my 2003 Mini Cooper, came to a stop light and when the light changed, I went to start out thru the intersection and lost all power-I managed to get it thru about the time the light had turned red, again! I coasted to the curb, put it in park, sat there for a few minutes and tried, again, to take off. It seemed to be fine, this time,( except for some take-off jerking, and rpm's spiking). Drove 42 miles then came to a one way stop sign at the intersection of us hwy 40 & us hwy 56, when traffic cleared I went to cross the intersection and my car jerked and died!!! I had to be pushed out of the intersection while cross traffic had to stop & wait on me! no warning lights came on, in fact, I questioned whether or not they even worked. It's now at the dealership, where I purchased it, used, on 07/29/2014, getting diagnosed.
Loud rattling noise when accelerating coming from the engine. When I come to a complete stop car has turned off, sometimes it cranks for a bit to start up. Also while driving losses power and car decelerates slows down and also pulls like if was out of gas. White smoke when you press on gas.
On two occasions when driving, the auto start and stop function shut the engine off, where I had to put the car in park & restart it. Happened once on a flat surface and once on a downhill slop at a stop. Also, I've only had the car one month and the drivetrain light came and the Mini service repair says it was fault #20a503 with the water pump. Please advise!.
The automatic transmission seems very jerky and hesitant. It has died on me once while driving as it stalled out. I am afraid the transmission is close to failure.
Car has had issues with cvt transmission. Yesterday I was told that it needed to be replaced. At urging of other Mini owners in the same situation, I am reporting problem to your agency in hopes to have BMW recall the cars and replace the faulty transmissions.
Mini Cooper with a cvt auto transmission: I noticed that the engine would "rev. " up when I step on the gas pedal, and the car would not accelerate. I pulled over and shut of the engine, than restarted the engine and moved ahead. Later the "slipping" happened again and again; at all speeds and with a cold or hot engine. In addition, this problem has occurred while traveling at highway speeds 55+mph, and this requires coasting over to a breakdown lane to avoid a collision. The condition still exists and I am trying to locate an independent repair shop to diagnose the problem and hopefully rectify the problem at a reasonable cost. Mini Cooper dealers are asking between $5000 to $9000. 00 to repair/replace the transmission. I have reason to believe that Mini knew about this problem as early as 2005. Aside from doing warranty repairs no attempt has been made by Mini to notify owners and/or offer to repair/replace these faulty transmissions.
Stretched timing chain seems to be a common issue with this model, but recall is only on the type s models.
I have a 2006 Mini Cooper conv s, aprox 53,000 miles, has a cvt automatic transmission, at this time shifting in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears has been erratic, with very jerky shifting and speed.
2012 Mini Cooper countryman manual transmission. Live in a mountainous region in colorado. Noticed a peculiar smell coming from the car after being stuck in heavy traffic. Had the car serviced and they said everything was good to go. Few days later when on vacation driving through nevada, the clutch completely gave out & left us stranded from 8:30 at night until 2:30 in the morning before the tow truck could get to us. Dealer verified that the clutch was inoperable and replaced the clutch disk, flywheel, and pressure plate under warranty. Manager said this has been an issue they have seen a few times previously. Now, 12,000 miles (41,000 total) and 6 months later, the same thing as happened. But now, Mini is saying that it's "driver error" or "wear and tear" and not covered. Dealer service manager still acknowledges that this is a problem for the region we live in. However, I am expected to come up with $3,000 to fix this plus keep paying a new car payment. I have driven manual transmission cars/trucks/motorcycles/sports cars for 35 years and never had a problem with a clutch going out on me before. This is my 3rd Mini, and it will be the last I will ever own, I can't wait to get rid of it. Mini has had enough trouble with this that they changed the clutch in the 2013 models. Extremely upset with them as a company that they can't stand behind their product and fess up that they didn't put a clutch in a car that was appropriate to handle the weight of the vehicle. Don't buy one unless you live in the flatlands and don't have to deal with traffic!.

Mini Cooper broke down in the middle of a busy intersection during morning rush hour traffic. Left my wife stranded. Problem is the defective cvt automatic transmission. The belt broke in transmission. Found out online of all the people who are having the same problem. Repairs to cost between 6000 and 9000 dollars. Several class action suits filed already. What needs to happen before BMW recalls and repairs problem? does someone need to die when one of these inferior transmissions lets go?.
I was driving on the freeway at 70mph in far left lane and the car just shut off. The brake and stearing wheel got stiff and would not work right. The area of the freeway was crowded due to construction and it was impossible to get to the side. The car behind me was entirely to close and im surprised I was not hit.
Sound of the engine rattle nosie when stars in the moring.
Cvt (auto transmission) needs replacing. Mini Cooper quote is $9,000 to replace. Mini dealer knows that there' s many complaints with these cvt (auto trans. ).
I purchased a 2003 Mini Cooper from a private party in the dallas, texas a few years ago. I just received the dreaded news today that my transmission is going out and it will cost me $6000 to repair. According to Mini this vehicle has already had the transmission changed during the warranty period so this would be the 2nd transmission for this car. The repair is equivalant to the purchase price of the vehicle 2 or so years ago. I can not afford to pay this price and understand this is a common occurence with this year vehicle so it would seem that a recall would need to be issued. Otherwise I have to attempt to sale this car and take a loss.
