1 Manual Transmission problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 06/20/2010

2008 Mini Cooper S. The vehicle had a complete electrical and engine failure with no notice. While driving on interstate 287 in NJ with absolutely no notice the car lost total power. Every warning light illuminated on the dash, all gauges dropped to zero, no power whatsoever from the engine, no way to open windows or door locks as their was a complete and total electrical and mechanical failure of this vehicle - there was absolutely no notice. One moment the vehicle was operating normally and the next I had complete and total mechanical, engine and electrical failure rendering the car disabled and without power in the middle lane of interstate 287 south in morristown NJ. Vehicle brought to Mini dealer; vehicle there for almost 2 weeks-supposedly "fixed". The same problem happened a second time within 100 miles of that first service. Vehicle brought to Mini dealer again. Happened a third time for the service technician while he drove the car home from princeton to PA. Vehicle was at Mini for another 2 and one half weeks. Now they say it is fixed and I do not feel confident they are correct. This problem is without warning and leaves the vehicle permanently disabled in a total and complete way that can lead to serious injury or death for the occupants. Mini customer service was abhorrent. They would not return calls and stalled time and again when asked to repurchase this vehicle which is clearly unsafe. They will do nothing. The NHTSA must investigate. The only part they tell me is wrong is the footwell module but will be no more specific. Mini must be held accountable for this defect and failure; this is of very serious nature. Again, the car completely fails-everything-engine, electrical, all power you can not open door locks, windows or the rear hatch. The engine losses all power. Please investigate.

3 Manual Transmission problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 10/20/2009

I bought 2007 Mini Cooper S pre-owned car on 8/24/09 which has 3,627 miles on it at $24,000. On 10/25/09, is only 3 months later, I was driving a car and noticed smelling something burning. The car won't go in gear and move. On that night, the car stopped in the middle of the load. Even if I push a gas, it just does make noisy sound and smell really bad, and it never move. Next day it was towed to the orlando Mini dealer. The dealer says that the clutch was burned out and this repair (per the dealers estimate is $3,000)is not covered by the warranty because it was driven by an inexperienced person or neglected. I am an experienced manual car driver and what the dealer told me is not true. It is only 4,000 miles and it should never happen if we drive in a normal way. The dealer did not listen to me and I ended up going a reliable local mechanic and paying $2,200 to fix it without warranty. The guy at the mechanic says Mini clutch is a very common problem and he has fixed several times before. I also went to a website and realized that many people have the same problem and even say it might happen again soon. I believe it was a defected clutch and would like to complain about it. I have all evidences available. I would appreciate if you could help me to recover my monetary damages.

4 Manual Transmission problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 09/25/2009

2006 Mini copper s. I bought it with 15997 miles on the car. The clutch went out 3000 miles later and the Mini dealership was asked to check out the car especially the clutch only 2 months prior to this happening. No warning lights appeared before the clutch stopped working. Now the dealer tells me that is not covering by the warranty and then informs me that this will be the third clutch to be installed in this vehicle. . . . One was replaced at 8000 miles and then another at 11000 miles (first owner) and now again at 19000 miles. This is not acceptable and I have researched with many other Mini owners that have experienced the same or similar issues. Some may have started their own class action lawsuit. . . . . Please advise!.

5 Manual Transmission problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 09/19/2008

2007 Mini cooper, purchased new, approx 21,000 miles. Parked car would not go into reverse. Many web forums indicate ongoing problems with Mini transmissions.

6 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 02/27/2004

One morning driving about 100 mph going up to CT I pay a toll take off the car hesitates in first gear then goes ok about a 2 miles from the toll I am doing about 100 mph and switch to the right lane and the car just stop giving me power so I go to change to 5th gear no luck so I let the car roll to the shoulder call Mini roadside and they tow to nearest dealer to my house. The dealer has my car for a total of 8 days and tell me the l/front axle will not stay in the transmission. Then the dealer say that its not covered@ first then tells me that will cover it a day later after the Mini specialist take a look @ it and say we will cover it this time as a favor. Now it is ten days later and the same thing has happen again this time I have to pay for towing and I cant wait to have a talk with the dealer. I will keep u guys posted.

7 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 10/22/2003

Car loses power suddenly and lurches in first gear when moving off from a standing start.

8 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 07/17/2003

Engine power loss starting off in 1st gear. When stating from a complete stop in 1st gear the car will hesitate for aprox. 2-3 seconds before the rpms increase. There is no combination of clutch and throttle that will alleviate this situation. The combination of warm temperatures and running the a/c contribute heavily to the power loss. Colder weather does improve this power loss.
