36 Service Brakes problem

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Eclipse. The contact stated that the brake pedal was applied and it went to the floor numerous times. The failure progressed for years with and without any warning indicator for the brakes. The vehicle was take to more than two repair shops and they were not able to replicate and diagnose the failure. The vehicle was to be taken to the dealer to receive the recall repair but the contact was informed that the repair would not be scheduled until the second recall notification was received. The contact was unable to determine when the second recall notice would be mailed. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v337000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the progressing failure which happened before notification of the recall and they also stated that until the second notice was received the repair was unable to be scheduled because the remedy was not available. The vehicle was not repaired for months. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available. Dyd.

37 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2012

When braking to stop, the brake pedal experienced a longer than normal pedal stroke resulting in a rear end collision. It is an intermittent problem. The 2006 Eclipse has a recall for this exact problem. 2007-2008 Eclipses should also be recalled to fix this potential problem. There are several online posts describing this problem on a 2008 Eclipse.

The contact owns a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The contact stated that while driving, he attempted to engage the brakes but the vehicle did not respond. As a result, he crashed into the rear of another vehicle. A police a report was filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who was not able to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 15,000.
