My daughters 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse is leaking fuel from the filler tube. Tube rusted out prematurely due to a defective design of a tube cover that allows dirt and mud to collect around the tube where it bends and causes premature rust through. I am an ase certified mechanic and have performed recalls in the past on other vehicles and this is a poor design that could use some investigation. I am replacing the part with the factory original and will be adding a cover that will block the entry of dirt and mud from around the tube.

The service engine light came on. The car has been inspected by two mechanics from different shops; both of which suspect the problem with my fuel system may be related to the fuel system recall for the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I contacted the manufacturer to get more information. I was informed that my vehicle had not been serviced for the recall. However, I was also told that my vehicle was not included in the recall, even though it is the same make and model as the recalled vehicle and is having problems in the same category. I am concerned my vehicle may have problems related to the fuel system recall. If so, I would like this issue to be properly addressed.

The contact owns a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse spyder. The contact stated that the vehicle was hesitant to start and exhibited an overpowering gasoline odor. When the vehicle was able to be started, it would sputter and stall sporadically. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the dealer could not determine what caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 127,000.

The service engine light was on and the codes show an evaporative emissions leak. Several service visits did not resolve the problem. Finally it was found that the fuel filler tube was totally rusted out and close to falling off. Apparently this is a fairly common problem with the 2001 Eclipse and was causing fule leakage as well as vapor leakage. This could have caused a fire or resulted in the vehicle being disabled. The mechanic said he had never seen a fuel filler tube in such bad shape. Mitsubishi dealer stated they didnt want to deal with the issue due to the high repair cost.
I had to replace a rotted gas filler neck on my 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse gt. The mechanic told me it was a poorly designed part and should not have rotted. I have had many cars and never heard of anything like this before. Mitsubishi should be made to have a recall for this defective part.
The fuel filler has rusted through, resulting in a leak which causes a puddle of gasoline under the car when adding fuel. There are no gas leaks other than when filling, so I assume the leak is limited to the filler portion of the system.
Rotted fuel filler neck. Evap code and fuel leak during refueling. No parts available due to high demand.
Idle air controller failed.
My complaint is//// if this country really needs to find a method of buying less oil from abroad "why not raise the legal driving age to 18 years old. Ust think of how gas would be saved if we did not have these reckless kids of today racing around with their loud mufflers and boom boxes. Besides all of the accidents these "kids cause.

Engine is missing. Gas is not circulating throughout engine. Engine check light illuminates on and off. Dealer can't find cause. Consumer adds engine not producing enough power. Also experiencing poor gas mileage.
Consumer states there is black smoke during start, dealer did not remedy problem, vehicle is sluggish and gets poor gas mileage, vehicle was shuddering at idle and dealer replaced the air box, there was a hissing noise caused by the heat shield on the catalytic converter.
Vehicle has a bad gasoline smell. Contacted dealer, and dealer said there is nothing they can do.
