My calapana black 2001 Eclipse gt started to fade a year ago. I noticed that most black Mitsubishi cars starts to fade in 2-3 years. I have a couple of friends that have the same problem but refuse to complain here because they already done several times to the dealer but never had a response. I also have exact problem as complain no. Odi 100511429 NHTSA complaint 448638. As mentioned, the car has trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd gear (worst when cold), stutters when first accelerating, and makes a continuous rattling noise when the clutch is not engaged. I complained to Mitsubishi dealer many times but they refuse to be responsible.

Started having problems shifting and started hearing a noise sounding like metal spinning. Was told by two dealers that the noise was normal. He has had the reverse synchros, pressure plate and clutch replaced. Work done at dealer where he bought it. Was told by manufacturer that they will research the problem. In late feburary came to stop when he went ot take off he heard loud metal clanking noises and shearing noises. Parked it then. His dealer went out of business and had to take the car to another dealer who said it was the input shaft and input shaft seal. Was told onriginally it was a manufacturers defect. Now the dealer is saying it is not a manufacturers defect. The defective input shaft and input shaft seal has totally distroyed the transmission. The warranty company is saying it is owner fault and all they will pay for is th input shaft and input shaft seal.

After 39,000 miles on my 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse spyder, the manual transmission is experiencing problems. Specifically, the car has trouble shifting into first and second gears (worst when cold), studders when first accelerating, and makes a continuous rattling noise when the clutch is not engaged. These problems are apparently the result of a defect in the transmission involving the clutch plate/throw-out-bearings/synchronizers. I have learned of hundreds of other people who have the same problem, same symptoms, and same cause. Mitsubishi should issue a recall for this problem but has not done so.
Transmission makes a loud revving noise, and has a shifting problem. Dealer has been contacted.
