Sun roof exploded and shattered while driving 65 mph on a two lane highway on a clear night, no rocks on the road way, and one vehicle traveling approximately half a mile ahead when my glass shattered. When the closed sun roof exploded and shattered it sounded like a something fell from the sky on the roof of my vehicle, I pulled over to check what had happened, but there was only the shattered glass all over the roof and trunk of my car. I inspected the shattered glass laying on the roof, interior slide and trunk of my vehicle for anything that might have caused the sun roof shatter, yet there was nothing that could have caused this damage. Fortunately the interior roof slide was closed, stopping the exploding shattered glass from injuring my daughter and I sitting in the driver and passenger seats below the sun roof. This is a severe safety defect which could cause serious injury and/or death if the interior roof slide is not closed.

I got in my car to go somewhere, shut the door, and the sunroof completely shatters. I went to the dealership (an actual Mitsubishi dealership as opposed to the dealership where I purchased my vehicle which was a chevy dealership) where the manager said he had never heard of this and that it shouldn't be covered by warranty because if it were faulty glass then it would have happened much sooner. I responded by asking if that is true, then all other warranty issues happen right away and not over time? if so, then why have warranties that last for years? he seemed upset that I would question him about it and said that even if I called customer service that it would not be replaced by the company under warranty. I also brought to his attention the liability issued associated with shattering sunroofs that could be something along the lines of bridgestone/Ford. I have researched this issue and find several others have had the same issues dating back to the early 90's with the 3000gt. How can I get the company to replace this?.
I have owned my care for 3 years. In that time I have had a leaking sunroof, broken passenger rear view mirror, broken passenger window "wont roll up", numerous tire changes, bad vibration, horrible noises when turning wheel, have replaced 2 transmissions, both tie rod ends, 1 lower ball joint and control arm suspension bar"more info on this below", alternator, both headlights, 4 differant seats of breaks, 2 seats constintly running low on oil, replaced the fuel filter, seat belts don't stop, battery cables keep caroding, replace spark plugs atleast 3 to 4 times a year, vibrates when going down road. Those are just the things off the top of my head that I have done to this car. Now to the accident. After I got off work I was on my way home when I decided to go to my friends so while driving to her house I hear a loud pop and the next thing I know my car is controling itself and I can't steer it. This was all do to my lower ball joint shattering and my wheel almost completly detaching from my car. Now the other side is starting to make that horrible noise. The control arm swung on the bottum of my car after it broke during this and tore out my oil filter, oil pan, and oxygen senseor. Have yet to recieve any information from Mitsubishi.

My 2003 Eclipse gts has been serviced for about 10 different things in a matter of 8 months. 4 seperate times I had brought it in for a jerking automatic transmission 3 times they told me nothing was the matter and it was fine. Finally the check engine light came on and they then informed me that the transmision needed to be reprogrammed. It worked for about 4 months. Also 20 days after buying the car my check engine light came on and the fuel pump and sensor needed to be replaced. 4 times I have also brought the car in becuase when the sunroof opens it jerks really bad. Every time I went there all they did was grease it and it still doesn't work properly. At 17,000 the power mirror on the driver side door stopped functioning and that was replaced. Today 8/23/04 at 20,000 I just dropped it off for the sunroof (again) and informed them my wheel shook while braking and was just notified that my rotors were bad and needed to be replaced and the cost to me was $200. 00 for a car with 20,000 miles and 1 year old. Mitsubishi states they have the best backed cars but when it comes down to it they do not back thier cars up when it matters.
While traveling 60 mph on the expressway on a clear day, no construction, no trucks in sight, not going under an overpass - my sunroof suddenly explodes! the sunroof had only been partially open, and the interior slide was only opened just slightly. This was lucky, otherwise I would have been showered with glass. Even though it scared the heck out of me, I was able to keep my vehicle under control. I have researched window explosions on Eclipses and found that I am not the only one this has happened to. What can I do and can I get the dealership to repair due to defect?.
The driver was following a dump truck while driving 40 mph. The dump truck started losing rocks from the back of the vehicle. The driver tried to avoid the rocks, however, a rock hit the sunroof of the consumer's vehicle. As a result, the sunroof glass broke causing the glass to enter the vehicle. The consumer states that, "this is the second time the sunroof glass has broken. " please provide any further details.

Fuel relay switch on my mitsuibishi Eclipse 1997 GS has failed on several occasions. In order to get my car to start, I have to go under the hood, "wiggle" the relay switch and lightly tap on the top of it. This fuel relay has been replaced by dealer and the problem continues to occur, even causing the car to go dead during travel. Dealership claims they do not know why it occurs. (20+ occurrences) enormous amounts of "bluish" gas fumes coming from the tail pipe, regardless of idle or in motion. (always occurring) sunroof sticks (5-10 occurrences) both driver and passenger windows rattle when car is in motion and as the door is being shut (continuous occurrence) clutch failure, hard shifting (1 occurrence).
Convertible top links bent, rear window stitching failure. Top will not go down due to previous. Just happened overnight. One day it wasn't there, the next the links were bent. Dealer states this is just normal wear & tear and the links bent are the most common problem with this top.

The roof of my 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse spyder is not functioning properly due to two brackets bending when you open the roof. I had this fixed at the dealer in September 2002 and then it just happened again the first time that I opened the roof this spring (March 14, 2003).

Consumer states while driving vehicle without warning and at any speed, vehicle will shake, mechanic states all four rims are dented resulting in vehicle shaking. Consumer states this also causes the steering to shake. Dealer had to secure clamp due to vehicle losing antifreeze. Brake light illuminated, dealer replaced front brake pads. Sunroof would not tilt, dealer reset the sunroof glass.

Wheel is dented. Sunroof is skipping and chattering. (tiresize: 205/17/55).
Not only do I have the aggrevation of bent rims and flat tires, and financial hardship on this, my left side of the car doesn't align to the right. Water leeks in on the left side. Sometimes the heater blows out cool air. The sunroof shakes when opening. I already had a manufacuters defect in my strut on the left side. I have sctraches on the left side fom the car scrapping the ground when I make a right hand turn. I had to have the cooling system replaced the first week I financed it. My hood won't open and my headlights fail causing me to dirve only with the fog lights. All these issues are the same and constant since I purchased this lemon.
Consumers daughter was driving, noticed black smoke coming through air conditioning vents, vehicle looked to be on fire, consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they could not determine what had cause the fire. Prior to the fire, the engine would start, air condition was inoperative, sunroff was inoperative, mirror were inoperative, emergency brake was inoperative needed to be readjusted, fog lights stayed on even with the key out of ignition, windshield wiper was inoperative, cargo cover was loose, there was a problem with the power steering.
Closed sunroof violently exploded with small glass going all over both passengers going 60 mph down highway. Nothing hit the car. Had had problems opening prior. Mitsubishi will not take any responsibility of possible defect. Insurance reports no evidence of object hitting. Could have been deadly in heavier traffic.
I purchased my car new from modesto Mitsubishi. At the time it was noted that the sunfroof molding was not installed correctly and was to be replaced. I started having problems with overheating, electrical malfuntions, mirrors, clock, casette door defect, also sunroof opened only while getting on highway. I took vehicle to dealer, and ended up having to rent a car for about 3 1/2 weeks while they replaced warped head. When I picked up my car, the sunroof molding still not replaced, the car stereo I was told they had to order, the sunroof I was told was ok. I worked 2 hours from home making it difficult to make arrangements for vehicle to be left again. When I did call and question the stereo I was told that it had been sent back and the and that they would have to keep it. Again I would have to rent vehicle. The most recent reccuring issue is the ungodly mold smell coming from driver and passenger door, the car cuts out while trying to excellerate onto freeway, pass vehicles, going up roads. While getting on freeway I have tried to excellerate finding myself flooring gas and not being able to achieve more than 20 miles per hour with oncoming traffic, same as going up hill. My paint has started oxidizing in white spots throughout hte vehicle and when I took to dealers 3 weeks ago, explained smell I was told the smell was from airconditioner propably and then asked how many miles I had on car regarding paint. Then aked to come back in an hour. This is after I had called earlier and told to bring in. Regardless of miles it is the same year as every other 2000 with out spots. And it has been kept kept it in my garage since April 2002 other than leaving 2 times a day to pick up child at schoo and occasional road trips. I have been driving a second vehicle. I feel very apprehensive when I go to dealership due to them saying they are not going to do anything. I have sent car in with 2 seperate people getting the run around as well.
