One problem related to steering rack and pinion has been reported for the 1999 Mitsubishi Galant. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The steering rack and pinion assemblyfailed without warning. Steering was totally lost. Mitsubishi is currently requesting me to return the failed part in exchange for some monetary reimbursement.
