1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2023

The car started to slow down on its own even when my foot was on the gas it wouldn’t pick up speed over 20mph then it started to over heat, then smoke. It sounded like sparks like from a firecracker and smelt like something was burning to the point I had to pull over and turn the car off so my children and I could get out and breathe. When I restarted it turned on but would not drive when put into gear. I had it towed and the next day I tried again only this time the battery was dead and nothing was left on in the car I couldn’t understand how this happened so I bought a new battery put it in and it started still wouldn’t move though so I gave it a few days went to try again and the new battery was dead like something was draining all the power.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2020

The following is a result of a defective transmission fluid dipstick acknowledged by Mitsubishi and addressed by a service bulletin. They have not issued a recall of the dipstick. (https://mitsubishitechinfo. Com/data/tech_docs/2010/52005696/html/520056966. Htm) after driving on the highway at normal speeds, 70mph and under, the transmission overheated and a slow down warning appeared. I pulled over, lifted the hood and let it cool down for about 20 minutes; the warning had disappeared. I resumed driving at speeds 45 and under, and while driving up a hill the transmission whined very loudly and I lost so much power that the car began to slow to a stop on the road. I had to pull over to avoid being struck by oncoming traffic. The slow down light was not on, but I did receive engine code p0741. In another incident, I let it cool down on the side of the interstate then took an exit. With no slow down warning, I was attempting to make a left turn when the transmission whined very loudly and the car stopped moving forward. An 18 wheeler was oncoming and was not going to be able to stop. Thankfully, the car was able to make it safely out of the way, but it was close. I have experienced many similar incidents. The transmission has frequently overheated since I've had it when it had only 30,000 miles. The transmission fluid and filters have been regularly changed per the owner's manual. While it has a rebuilt title, there was only exterior damage and no part of the power train was ever damaged. I discovered the service bulletin from research and forums. Many others have experienced this issue, but most just assumed the fluid needed to be changed more than the manual recommended. The defect and the overheating that results is very dangerous as I've recently experienced. It's an original factory defect that is completely unaffected by mileage or wear and tear.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2016

Mitsubishi Lancer dct470 sst transmission recall - my transmission lost even gears while driving home from work. The car selected a lower gear and the check engine light turned on. I pulled over to troubleshoot and eventually made it home. This costly repair forced me to buy another car and have since left the repair unattended. This is a known manufacturer defect. The problem is so common that a petition was started to help those others that were also affected by this issue. The problem is a shift fork magnet becomes dislocated from the bracket and will not allow the transmission to select even gears. In order to repair, a specialist must disassemble and rebuild the case. It is not caused from any maintenance neglect nor driving habit or abuse. It can occur in all models with this specific transmission. It is a worldwide issue including canada & australia. I have not yet repaired my personal transmission and hope to do so in the future. The car has been parked since the incident occurred. Maybe with your help Mitsubishi can rectify this problem for me, all those affected, and prevent it from happening to future owners. . 4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2016

Takata recall since I bought the car the acd pump has been fine. Back in September the red triangle came on and I did some research to find out what it meant. I barley drive the car because of the issue. It seems several other people have had this problem too. Mitsubishi wants to charge me $800-$1200 to fix it. I refuse to pay this amount after seeing everyone else has this same issue.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2014

4wd service required light popped up immediately when accelerating. Acd pump may have failed. Mitsubishi does not cover this as it is not "part of the drivetrain". Can be dangerous when pump goes out.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2014

Shortly after starting the engine; take a turn left and then made¿¿; I turn on the abs light shortly after engine light lit too and, days later, the abs light went out. The next day I started the engine; running the car at 15 to 35 miles, sounds a hit; in the transmission and abs light comes on again. This has been doing so far.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2014

I stopped at a light, the when I went to make a left turn my dash began to flash a "service required" light at me. After doing some investigation, it turns out that it is an extremely well known and unaddressed issue with the car's acd pump failing. It's a design flaw that costs thousands of dollars to fix, but failure of the part is practically guaranteed. Why there's no recall yet is completely ridiculous.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

As I was driving home from work I got a service required on screen, shut my car off it went away. Next day driving to work same thing. It consistently comes on well driving and goes away on start up. Had an alignment done, balanced all tires and no change. Shop informed me of a code c161e. Acd pump failure. Mitsubishi stated as its over 60k miles I have no power-train coverage and a new pump and replacement was around $2000. Kinda strange a part that seems to have so many issues all over the us and canada the can't do a recall?.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2014

As I was driving my car to work last week a light came on that looks like my tires are unbalanced. . ?. . . Thinking I might need new tires, I brought my car to the dealership. The dealership assured me that I did not need tires. I had my oil changed and my tires rotated including a front end alignment and an inspection. When I started to drive away from the dealership, a light came on again. I turned around and brought it right back. The dealer put my car on a machine and told me the issue is "code c161e" -intermittent issues with awd control pump and this part alone would cost $2000. 00. My car is a 2009 with only 31000 miles on it. The dealer told me that my three year warranty is up however I still have 5000 miles. How could this happen with such minimal miles? I drive my car to work and home mostly and take good care of it. When I researched this issue online I found multiple people with the same issue and have reported the issue. However, nothing seems to be getting resolved except bad feelings. If this is such a huge issue (as it seems to be online) why does Mitsubishi not do something about this. How can they just get away with a malfunctioning auto part that normal everyday people, still making car payments, can not afford. I would really appreciate anything you could do to help me get this issue repaired as I do not want to get rid of my car. I do not feel this should be the consumers problem but the manufacturers. Thank you very much for your time.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2013

I started my car the awc selection light started flashing. As I drove it stopped flashing. Then the awc service required light came on I brought it to the dealer they turned the light off said it was a ecu update. As it got warm out it came on periodically but would turn off. Every time I brought it to the dealer they couldn't duplicate the problem. Now the light has come on and stayed on. The codes are for pump failure.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2013

I was driving northbound on the CA is-15 north at approximately 5:55 pm pst between the exits of 138/wrightwood and the route 395/joshua street exit. I was traveling in the fast lane going about 68-72 mph. I got a "service required" error light flashing, then the "slow down" light came on with a picture of a thermometer. I checked the temperature gauge (which is displayed on the led screen by the speedometer, not the usual independent gauge) and the temperature showed that it was right in the middle, which should be working great. I slowed down to 50 mph as I merged from the #1 (fast) lane to the slow lane by the road shoulder and my engine lost power. Luckily I had enough power to get over to the should before the usual line of semi-trucks blew past me. I checked the coolant, oil, and ctv trans fluid levels, all were at capacity. This is the second time that I had experienced this issue. The first time was this same time last year (August, 2012). I had bought the car used in July 2012. The first time this occurred the dealership (victorville Mitsubishi) fixed it under TSB 10-23-005. At that point the car only had 46,000 miles on it. I plan to take the car back into the dealer this Saturday, provided I can make it back up the hill today and tomorrow. This is a really serious problem and I hope it becomes an official recall. Luckily I wasn't run off the road or rear ended and killed with the loss of power issue due to the faulty sensor.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph with the accelerator pedal engaged, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician was unable to locate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000. Pam.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2013

As I was driving up the i5 going up the grapevine in CA at 65-70mph my vehicle made a beeping noise and dash showed thermometer that said slow down. I slowed down to 60mph and went into the left lane or (slow lane where semi trucks drive). All of a sudden the car started to slow down more and more until a semi truck got extremely close and had to veer into a faster lane because my car was only going 40mph. I found an exit and exited the freeway. I came to a stop, when it was my turn to go, my car would not accelerate. The car was on and it was in drive but would not move. Fortunately a chp vehicle came along and stopped traffic long enough for my brother and 13 year old nephew to push the vehicle off the road. This was the second time this exact incident occurred in this vehicle. The first time I was with my mother and was on the same freeway, luckily that time we were closer to the exit and were able to get safely to the side of the road. Please investigate this issue because it is extremely unsafe to have these vehicles on the road suddenly slow down in front of semi trucks that are not equipped to stop at short distances.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2013

All wheel control pump units continue to fail with out mits. . . Attempting to resolve the issue. Costing min $2000 for repairs. They most of the time refuse to replace a poorly engineered awc pump. Under a suposid awesome warranty. These units are failing all over canada & us. With mits knowing its a problem. But not resolving it. Help us owners please. I dont want to or should have to replace a $2000 pump every 10,000 kms.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

There is an all wheel traction control pump for one of the cars main features. This pump is located directly behind the rear wheel. When you live in an area that is cold and the roads are salted the pump gets splashed with salty road water and corrodes the pump. This leads the pump to fail and extremely low miles. The worst part is that for some reason Mitsubishi does not cover this under its pumps or power train warranty. It is also and incredibly expensive part. My part failed before 40,000 miles.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2013

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer. The contact stated that while in reverse with the accelerator depressed the vehicle became hesitant to respond. While driving at different speeds the vehicle hesitates to accelerate and also jerked forward suddenly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 61,000. Da.
