1 Body problem of the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 07/18/2024

I've had the vehicle for 7 years and after inspection performed by the dealer, there is so much subframe rot that my car will not pass the next inspection due in April. I've contacted Mitsubishi and they said there is nothing they can do as there isn't any recall. This model of Mitsubishi has had recalls on many different previous years, such as 2005, 2010 and many online reports of 2014 with the same problem.

2 Body problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 12/12/2023

We had car at a car dealer and the manufacturer declined doing the recall on the car for corrison on the front crossmember, telling us due to car has a total loss record on carfax. The vehicle total loss record was for a accident that didn't effect that part of the car that's under recall, it was due to vehicle repairs were more then what car was worth. The piece I think they call it crossmember has rust holes through it and is about to come apart at the rusted holes on the part. We buy the car ja3au86u18u016308 in 2022 for our daughter to drive to college. Just finding out when we took it into the car place to perform this recall they won't do the recall because of Mitsubishi. I filled this out for my dad, he bought car for me.

3 Body problem of the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer

The rear crossmember subframe is rusted out very badly, and has all the rear axel and components attached to it. This is very unacceptable for car that cost nearly 40 grand.

5 Body problem of the 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 07/14/2022

I got a service needed warning for the electric power steering and I lost all power steering. . . As it turned out, the rack and pinion was bad because the subframe rotted out where the rack and pinion mounts up and a custom built subframe and rack and pinion had to be installed on the car at a cost of almost $5,000. . .

6 Body problem of the 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 08/07/2021

Routine service at 112 Mitsubishi dealer/service center noted that my front crossbar was severely corroded and “coming apart in chunks”. They noted that this defect is known and was recalled on later model years of my car, but not my 2011. Considering it was recalled already and is the same issue, I would recommend and hope the 2011 model year can also be included in the recall. It is available for inspection through mid September when I expect to repair it. There were no warnings leading up to this discovery of the defect, as it is structural. I am not an expert, but I would expect this advanced corrosion could fully compromise the car structure in a catastrophic way, resulting in an accident and/or injury.

7 Body problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 08/03/2020

Has active recall I want the sunroof replace not just inspected I want it fixed to avoid future problem of flying offer leaking.

8 Body problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 07/29/2020

Upon inspection of the undercarriage in the rear, areas of severe corrosion has developed underneath the rear on the aluminum subframe bar that holds the rear differential and other suspension components in place such as the rear differential & lateral control bars that can surely compromise the cars ability to drive if unnoticed. Additionally the fuel lines along the gas tank, as well surrounding surfaces on the driver side rear, have developed noticeable corrosion as well that is also proving to be a large area of concern. I am certainly concerned for my safety when operating this and the vehicles road worthiness because of these areas. This vehicle is by no means heavily modified at all, the vehicle is never operated beyond its limitations/aggressively as it's always been great for me as is, and it resembles exactly the way it did when it left the factory. Sourcing original and dot approved replacement parts has become very difficult and it leaves me at a standstill. Please if there isn't some kind of road worthy directive in regards to this I believe there should be because it can certainly compromise safety for driver in command as well as other drivers on the roads. To whom it may concern and whomever reading this, I hope my information came off clear and is considered. I greatly appreciate you taking the time observe this and making a prominent decision. I can provide additional photos and videos upon request as well. Thank you for your time.

9 Body problem of the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 06/26/2020

Was not aware of this new recall in July 2020 a detached front control arm may make you lose control of the car . My 17 year old daughter lost control of her car because the right side tire started to shake and the steering wheel locked up and she was unable to control car and wrecked on 6/26/2020 her air bags on passenger side came out when she went off the road in a ditch. She was driving in clear conditions at 55 mph and the right front side started to shake. She was given a ticket for failure to maintain control of her car. And has a court date with reckless driving. I can give you the va court id for the details of this.

10 Body problem of the 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 03/08/2020

My Lancer has very bad rear end chassis rust where the rear subframe is fastened to the monobody. In this area all the suspension components and rear drivetrain are located. Damage occurs due to salt and other corrosive agents that are used for roads in connecticut to melt snow. These agents rust the car where Mitsubishi failed to properly protect the steel under the rear end of the vehicle. It is widely observed that the 03-06 Lancer has from factory a poor to almost no anti rust agent applied to the lower rear chassis area of the car where the subframe crossmember is located that holds suspension components and rear differential. Currently under NHTSA campaign 16v458000, there is a safety recall for the front subframe crossmember due to rust damage. As for the rear of the car there most certainly should be a safety campaign as the rust in this area develops quicker and can cause a catastrophic failure.

11 Body problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 10/14/2019

My srs light just started coming on a few years ago before we were in an accident. When we took it to the dealer to check it, they said it was a costly repair and is only to remove the light. . . But that the airbags would still deploy if we were in an accident. Since then, we've been in an accident where we were rear-ended (which would not deploy the airbags) but it pushed us into the car in front of us (which should have deployed the airbags). Seeing as this light just came on way before any accidents and could not have been caused by anything we did, I believe it to be faulty from the manufacturer. When googling this issue, I found a lot of people complaining about the same thing happening. Yet, Mitsubishi has never been pushed to make their seat belt pretensioner flaw into a safety recall and expects to just make money off mitubishi owners coming in to pay to have this fixed.

12 Body problem of the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 10/05/2019

Rusted crossmember, control arms, braces holding the gas tank. Safety concerns about the rust underneath my car (120k miles California vehicle) rust may have eaten through the metals underneath my car and im scared to drive with these rust problems because they might fail when im on the freeway with the possibility of a bad accident causing my life and other peoples life on the line. I dont drive my car no more than 10 miles anymore due to this rust problem. The picture I provided doesnt look that bad but lifting the car up in the air going underneath will give you the idea of how bad it is. I have owned vehicles that are almost 30 years older than the current car that I have and I had no problem with rust underneath the car and this is actually my first time experiencing this problem and im worried about my safety. I hope this gets taken action and will give me any leads to fix this problem.

13 Body problem of the 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Rear chassis member (a frame rail) corroded close to the point where rear subframe is connected. It is now a safety concern to drive the vehicle as any significant impact may cause the rear suspension to detach. There was already a recall on rust of the front subframe however it seems that the problem is in inadequate undercarriage protection.

14 Body problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 05/28/2019

During my last two visit with technician (last one with Mitsubishi dealer, and one before with other service place), the vehicle technician notice excessively rusted cross-member. The technician at Mitsubishi dealer also put the note in "computerized vehicle report". When I asked the technician about how bad is this and how to fix this, he mentioned that other Mitsubishi Lancer vehicles are affecting with the same problem and Mitsubishi is recalling vehicles year by year, so hope they will recall this model too. And for safety, I need to make sure to keep eye and need to pay attention to any change to vehicle while driving as this may crack and I am end up in accident.

15 Body problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer. The contact stated while his wife was driving 25 mph, when the cross member snapped and detached from the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The failure mileage was unknown. Dp.

16 Body problem of the 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 08/27/2018

2010 Lancer recall number sr-18-003. While driving from texas to California after getting out of the service the sunroof blew out and ripped away at from the car while driving 75 mph and it was in a closed and locked position. Called Mitsubishi and they said it was not covered under the recall, even though it is same model and year as those affected and had the same exact issue that was stated in the recall, down to the increased humidity and temperature being the probable culprit for the failure. Had that sunroof hit and killed someone, they would be found liable I'm sure after they tried to explain that to the court that it was not one of the defective parts. They should be forced to cover this failure. I mean really. . . . What are the chances that the exact same year and model will have this bizarre failure and it not be part of the same "identified" problem by the manufacturer. I will do everything I can to deter anyone from any and all of their products, to include social media boycotting and telling people to beware and stay away from them. I will call the ftc and my states attorney generals office next.

Son was driving vehicle rear ended a vehicle, at 35 mph, rolled Mitsubishi 8 to 9 times, sled on roof about 50 feet before coming to a stop up side down. Airbags never deployed. Not even when the tow truck flipped car right side up.

19 Body problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 04/10/2017

While replacing front sub frame structure under recall for rust and corrosion, rust damage to the rear structure was noted by dealer. Upon further inspection, there are holes in the rear structure as well.

20 Body problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

21 Body problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 10/24/2016

The contact owns a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer. While driving approximately 30 mph, the cross member and k frame fractured. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was placed on a lift, inspected the vehicle, and diagnosed that there was extensive rust and corrosion. The dealer indicated that the parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was left at the dealer. The contact was waiting on a response from the manufacturer to determine if the contact would approve the dealer's repair. The VIN was excluded from a manufacturer recall. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

22 Body problem of the 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 10/14/2016

I have a recall on my 2006 Mitsubishi for corrosion on subframe, I called my local dealer, they checked the car and ordered the cross member, so we made an appoint to take car into dealer for replacement, left the car with the dealer for the day, later that day I gotten a call stating they cannot get the bolts loose due to corrosion and I have to pay to remove it, I find it strange that theres a recall on a part due to corrosion and now the bolt is seized due to the same corrosion, and I have to pay 392. 00 to remove cross member bolt so they can change a part that they recalled, I taught that a big company like this would recall a part and then take care of the issue, and not charge the customer for the repair. This is the worst recall I ever heard of.

23 Body problem of the 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, and removed the floor mat on the drivers side, it was discovered that the floor board had excessive rust and fractures. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000. Sw.

25 Body problem of the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 09/11/2014

I was involved in a accident and the air bag exploded. My concern is I was 47 and pretty good shape yet I had pain in my chest for over12 mo. I concerned people in less shape than me will never survice the imkpact of that airbag because I felt like I barely survived. Maybe this is the way it works I never had one hit me before but to this day I still feel a little pain.

26 Body problem of the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 02/15/2013

I accidentally rear ended the car in front of me, there was significant damage to the front end of my car and no air bag deployed, rather, a fair amount of dust filled the inside of my car.

27 Body problem of the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 06/24/2012

Just left a auto car wash and within about two minutes smoke rises from the center floor console. I pulled into a nearby gas station about a block away. Parked away from the pumps. Demanded a fire extinguisher from the attendant. Returned to the car as flames just started to erupt from the console . The dry chemical extinguisher made quick work of the fire. I don't think between the smell & sight of smoke and putting out the fire five minutes elapsed. I think the wiring must have shorted. The cigarette lighter never worked. The only other the device on the harness into the console is the p-r-n-d illumination panel. The fire caused the plastic console housing to melt down into the top of the transmission linkage. The tow tuck operator was able to cut the melted plastic off of the linkage & I was able to dive the car home, a few blocks away. Apparently there wasn't damage to the metal linkages to the transmission. The cars' been declared a total loss!.

28 Body problem of the 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 12/23/2011

The vehicle was chosen from a website called https://driveyourdream. Truecar. Com there was a select a dealer page that forwarded the price and payment plan to the selected dealer. The car was in extremely strange condition most likely was sitting a long time into a some kind of a vehicle storage. So far the car is working ok with the exception that the transmission, engine, gas pedal, gear-speed-clutch stick, are not functioning as expected by the standards approved by Mitsubishi automotive USA. The car cannot accelerate properly and it is consuming too much gasoline and engine oil. There were several recalls about the car and they were done but the main problem regarding acceleration has not even been considered as a recall yet as far as I know.

29 Body problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 03/18/2008

Paint on the sides of the car has thousands of rock chips at only 9000 miles. The car has never been driven through gravel and has not been subjected to extreme road conditions. I first noticed the damage occurring at about 5000 miles and took it to the dealer. The dealer stated that he agreed that it shouldn't be happening and thought it was a defect in the paint. They contacted mitsu USA and were told that they would not reimburse for any corrective action. Further investigation has revealed that this is a very common problem with the gts models and is due to a design flaw. Because the car is wider at the rear than the front and no rock deflectors were incorporated into the design, the rear of the car is literally getting sand blasted by the front tires. The only recourse I was offered was to have the car repainted at my own expense with no guarantee that it would not reoccur. Mitsubishi needs to take ownership of this problem, repair the damaged areas and install rock deflectors at no cost to the consumer.

30 Body problem of the 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 01/22/2004

While driving 25 mph driver's side control arm popped off the wheel . However, driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle. Consumer had vehicle towed to the dealer for analysis, and mechanic determined that vehicle had been in a previous accident. Vehicle could not be repaired due to bent chassis.

31 Body problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 09/01/2003

Rock chips behind the drivers side rear door. Many little chips running up the door frame. The chips are in the crease of the door jamb. I can provide pictures. I took the car (2003 Mitsubishi Lancer evolution) to hall Mitsubishi in newport news virginia around January or February. The service manager said it was rocks kicked up from the road and directed me to call a touch up paint repair specialist. I have talked to many other Lancer evolution owners and seen first hand that almost every evolution has this problem. I can provide pictures of the area in question. The chips are tiny, but they are in a place on the car that will be very susceptable to rust. I started noticing the problems about a month after I bought the car. I believe the problem is caused by a improperly aligned rear door. So far I have only noticed the problem on the drivers side of the car.

32 Body problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 07/01/2003

Consumer owned a 2003 Lancer evolution viii and noticed very poor paint quality. On a car that cost as much, and was as exclusive as this one , one would think it wouldn't chip and scratch so easily.

33 Body problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 12/28/2002

The paint job on my 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer ES is very poor. A very light contact makes a scratch on the paint. I have this car for about an year now but after the dealer washed my car for the first time, I can see the scratches on the hood. The dealer is not accepting the responsibility for this. I would say the car of this price should have much better paint and shouldn't scratch that easily.
