Rented from hotwire at san juan airport. Car rental was hertz. While reversing from parking spot at hertz lot, roaches came out of dashboard. I stopped at the office to change car. Agents were not concerned. I asked for another car without the bugs and it took some time to get another car. I inspected it and didn't find any. I drove off. The next morning I drove to ponce and back that night. Drove up & down a steep mountain side. When I parked that night roaches came out of that car too. Called several numbers, was freaked out, and no one seemed concerned. My dad sprayed the car that night, cleaned it up and the next morning we drove back to hertz to get a new car. My concern was that if those bugs would have come out while I drove the mountainside, I probably would have killed myself if they did come out and crawled on me. Im familiar with the roads but for the tourist that rent cars there it is definitely a safety issue and something has to be done.

2003 Lancer oz rally, steering column fell down in my lap. Factory said to bad, out of warranty and no recall issued. My local dealer wants 700+ dollars to fix it, this is
outrageous the car only has 64000 miles.

I own a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer (oz rally) that was purchased in 2002. During the last few months of 2009, I noticed my temperature control knob was becoming harder and harder to turn. On Monday, March 1, 2010 it broke completely off, leaving a partial stub of plastic in the console and the remaining plastic inside the knob. I first went to two auto parts stores to see if they carried this replacement piece, and their personnel informed me I needed to have it repaired a Mitsubishi dealership. I then went to the Mitsubishi dealership to inquire about the problem. They informed me the part could not be replaced individually, but it would cost $311 to replace the entire console in addition to the $150 or more in labor costs. I refused to pay such an outlandish price, considering that my console was in perfectly working order. I only need the broken plastic mechanism replaced, nothing more. And paying approximately $500 to replace a plastic piece is ridiculous. After further research, I realized that this is a common problem with other Lancer owners and the manufacturer should be informed of this defect.

The car will kick up any small rocks and chip the rear doors and side skirts. I have installed mud guards, but does not help either.
The air/heating unit button on the dash broke off completely. It was extremely hard to turn the knob to heat while attempting to turn it to the right. When I contacted the dealer they knew exactly what I was talking about. They said that they've had many car owners buying the unit because this is a common problem with the 2003 Lancer. The unit itself is very expensive to buy at a cost of $379. 00. This does not include the labor. The labor was quoted at $549. 00, because they would have to take the dashboard/ trim out and off to replace the unit. I just replaced the unit and the same problem has started again. This is just one of many problems. I have experienced. The car will jerk and hestitate and lose power while driving. The gears will shift and I will lose momentum while driving. You can hear a revving sound like the transmission is about to go out. These are just a few problems - I haven't mention that I've had to replace the air condition unit because of the condensation leaking into the front passenger floor board causing it to fill with water. This problem occurred twice. The dealer replace the unit with a new one.
The contact owns a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer. In rainy weather conditions, the contact noticed water entering the vehicle through the driver side cabin. Also, the tires have premature tread wear. He took the vehicle to the dealer and a technician replaced all four tires and performed a wheel alignment. Several months later, the tire tread displayed abnormal wear again. He took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that they would have to realign the tires and replace all four again. The vehicle has not been repaired because the dealer cannot identify the cause of the failures. The failure mileage was 7,500 and current mileage was 19,000.
1. After driving vehicle for an hour or less (depending on atmospheric conditions) a spark/static discharge occurs between the external metal surface of the vehicle and the first occupant exiting vehicle. 2. This could potentially ignite fumes when the vehicle is refueling or in presence of other flammable gases/materials. Also potential could cause spark between the gas tank door and gas station fuel nozzle. This is as much of a danger as an annoyance due to the static discharge/spark is very strong. I do not experience this in other vehicles. 3. Dealer fails to acknowledge and correct this issue.

Dashboard upper firewall support malfunctioned.
I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer ES. The temperature knob, which was impossible to turn from the very beginning has now broken off. I researched online and have come across hundreds of the same complaint and this is with minimal research on my part. Initially switching the temperature knob from hot to cold was difficult at best. I often had to request a grown man to help me just so I could defrost my windshield. I did bring the issue up to the dealership near my home, which has since closed, and they informed me the knob would not break. Well. . . . . The knob broke and now I have to use a needle nose pliers to change the temperature. The safety issue is when you are driving and it begins to rain or snow, etc. And you need to adjust the temperature you cannot. I have had to pull off the highway in haste because my windshield is fogging up and I need two hands in order to switch my temperature knob. Mitsubishi has got to be aware of this since apparently a technical report had been sent to their mechanics advising how to fix this program. In addition I have read Mitsubishi actually has a repair kit for this problem and apparently for the car owner the cost for the total repair is $800-$900. It is an absolute disgrace that Mitsubishi was allowed to sell cars in 2002, 2003, and 2004 get away with not repairing this problem.
Having a problem with rear suspension. The entire back end sounds as if the frame is broken. Was assured by mitsu service that it is not a safety issue. I was told it needed bearings and bushings and parts are on back order. This is a 2002 Lancer oz with 30000 miles this should not be happening to a car of this age. I am filing this complaint because I feel if there are two complaints on this site there are most certainly dozens more out there or more to come.
