Last year in November of 2005, I had to replace the passenger side wheel hub bearing because the bearings inside the hub broke down. Prior to getting it replaced, loud metallic grinding noise was coming from the wheel area. I took the hub bearing apart and found that the bearings were damamged and no sign of grease inside of the hub bearing. Now, on may 5, 2005, I have the same kind of problem and I inspected the hub bearing by taking it apart and discovered the bearings were damage. This led to my conclusion that it must have been a product defect and not a coincidence. I drive my vehicle from home to work normally and never have abuse the use of the vehicle like taking it offroad for a joy ride. It is a 2001 full size limited Mitsubishi Montero. Please, someone help me out because it caused me a great deal in time and money to replace the parts.

Contact stated everything underneath the vehicle was rusted, and going toward the engine. The vehicle had to be towed to the service station. The inside of the left wheel well cracked, causing the wheel bearing to break, and the driveshaft to slip down, causing the gears to grind in the drivshaft, sensors for the wheel well, and the components of the axle assembly were rusted. When the mechanic was taking the bolts from the inside of the driveshaft to replace it, the bolts disintegrated. Mechanic stated that the manufacturer did not spray the rust corrosion protection on the vehicle. It had not been repaired yet, but the consumer was going to take the vehicle to the service dealer to be serviced. Consumer did contact Mitsubishi, but the warranty was not valid overseas. But once the consumer was back in the united states warranty would be valid. The manufacturer told consumer to take the vehicle to a service dealer to have it serviced.
The front wheel bearings have been adjusted twice by Mitsubishi dealership mechanics. First time by "courtesy Mitsubishi" on stevens creek blvd. , san jose CA. The second attempt to have this repaired was again at courtesy mitsu with no cooperation from the service dept. They claimed that the eratic steering and the low grumbling sound was eminating from the front tires. And they further claimed that they could not diagnose the problem due to "tread separation" on the front tires. This was confirmed at a later date to be false as I took the vehicle to a yokohama dealership and had the owner inspect the tires. He found no defects. I had the tires rotated and balanced to eliminate any doubt as to the tires condition. The vehicle continued to progressively get worse. Loud clunking noises, wheel bearing growl, and extremely erratic steering behavior at all speeds. I am not able to take my family out on the freeway in this vehicle as I am afraid for their safety. I took the truck to another, larger dealer, "capitol Mitsubishi". They kept the vehicle for 48 hrs and concluded that the front wheel bearings were indeed loose again. However they refused to admit that there was any other problem and only retightened the bearings on the right side. The manager went for a test drive with me and I told him that the problem was not solved. He refused to do the work under warrantee and billed me $90. 00 labor for retightening the bearings. This vehicle is dangerous to drive and the front suspension components are rapidly deteriorating. Ball joints, control arm bushings, wheel bearings. . . Mitsubishi is violating the warrantee by avoiding and delaying a full and complete repair of these problems!.

Vehicle has been defective since day one of purchase, upper control arms are bad and bearings in front susupension. Manufacturer and dealer refuse to admit a problem existed, told me to find problem, they would then deal with the vehicle. If the part is defective on my vehicle there are thousands more just like mine. Someone will be hurt eventually in an accident.

This car has been in the shop 17 times within a year. It was bought brand new. The major problems we have with it are the wheen bearing, airconditioning and the engine shutting down with no warning. When we take it in either they say they cant duplicate the problem. With the wheel bearing, they fixed it the first time. It started to leak again and they said that it wasnt the wheel bearing.

My vehicle has not had a catatrophic failure as of yet. However the front suspension components and wheel bearings have degraded rapidly to the point of being unsafe at highway speeds and has totally ruined the front tires at 20000 mi. (the alignment has been checked and is perfect) the local Mitsubishi dealer "courtesy Mitsubishi" has twice refused to honor my factory warrantee and has made ridiculous excuses such as "the tire tread is separating on the front tires, therefor we cannot diagnose any problems with the front end". Afterwhich, I went to an authorized yokohama tire dealer and was assured that nothing was wrong with my front tires save for the excessive wear caused by suspension component problems! I feel as if I have no where else to turn as I cannot personally afford to hire a lawyer and sue for breech of contract. This is a dangerous situation and requires immediate action to remedy. With Mitsubishi's past record of stonewalling against accepting responsibility for defective products, I am officially requesting assistance and a remedy from the NHTSA.
