3 Air Bag problem of the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 01/29/2026

See attached document for complaint. The vehicle was sold without disclosure of an active airbag safety recall involving explosive deployment. Disclosure occurred only after contracts were executed and funds tendered. Had this life-safety information been disclosed prior to sale, the vehicle would not have been purchased. The failure to disclose a known safety defect at the point of sale constitutes material concealment and reckless disregard for consumer safety, particularly given the vehicle’s intended use for routine highway travel.

4 Air Bag problem of the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 01/09/2026

I am reporting a safety concern involving complete airbag non-deployment in a frontal collision. On January 9, 2026 I was involved in a frontal collision while driving my Mitsubishi Outlander phev. The impact caused significant front-end damage, and the vehicle was subsequently deemed a total loss by the other driver’s insurance company. None of the airbags deployed, including the driver and passenger frontal airbags. There were no airbag warning lights or system alerts illuminated prior to the collision. A police report was filed for this incident. I was not injured; however, the other driver sustained injuries. Given the severity of the frontal impact and the resulting damage, I believe the airbags should have deployed. This raises concerns regarding a potential defect or failure in the airbag system, crash sensors, or airbag control module. I have photographs documenting the vehicle damage. I am submitting this report so the incident can be reviewed for potential vehicle safety defects that may affect other vehicles.

7 Air Bag problem of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 09/12/2025

During operation in wet and rainy conditions, a warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle encountered a roadway pothole, at which point the airbags deployed unexpectedly. Simultaneously, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power, resulting in contact with a curb and minor damage to the wheel rim. The malfunction has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. To date, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. The affected components remain available for inspection upon request. No advance warning symptoms were observed other than the dashboard indicator that illuminated immediately prior to the incident. It is noted that the selling dealership did not disclose prior repairs performed on the vehicle, which may be relevant to the cause of this failure.

8 Air Bag problem of the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 09/07/2025

I rented this vehicle from alamo/enterprise at denver airport on 9/7/2025, and that day, while enroute to casper wy hit a large deer on I-24 n in wyoming where the posted speed limit is 80 mph, which was exactly the speed I was travelling. The deer was struck by the drivers side front of vehicle, causing extensive damage , loss of headlight and many small parts and electronic sensors as there were a number of dangling wires. The deer was killed instantly. My safety concern is that the air bags failed to deploy, which was surprising given the speed and over $17,000 damage estimate from: enterprise, case # 23039354, contact person deisy can be reached at 1 (866)300-4407 at extension 12068. The car was drivable, after tying down all of the loose parts and wires and front grill. I feel that hitting a large deer at 80 mph should have set off air bags, but I could be wrong, since the radiator did not leak and the vehicle remained drivable- but I thought it was worth alerting you and being put in your data to see if other Mitsubishi Outlanders from 2025 have same problem.

9 Air Bag problem of the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 08/20/2025

Airbags did not deploy.

10 Air Bag problem of the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 08/05/2025

On 05aug25, my wife was involved in a frontal collision while driving our 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander sport. The vehicle struck another vehicle at an estimated speed of over 30 mph, resulting in significant damage to the front passenger side, including deformation of the hood and front quarter panel. Despite the severity of the impact, no airbags deployed. My wife was properly restrained and sustained visible bruising across her torso. She is currently in her second trimester of pregnancy. The seatbelt force alone presented a serious safety risk to her and our unborn child. There were no airbag system warning lights prior to the collision, and the srs appeared to be functioning normally. The failure of the airbags to deploy under these conditions indicates a potential defect in the supplemental restraint system. This appears to be a dangerous failure of the airbag system. We are requesting a formal investigation into the srs components and crash sensor functionality of this vehicle model.

11 Air Bag problem of the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 08/05/2025

This is a follow-up and correction to a complaint previously submitted for VIN ja4ap3au9jz015686 regarding airbag non-deployment during a passenger-side t-bone collision on 05aug25. A 2-year-old child was properly restrained in a rear-facing car seat in the rear passenger-side seat. The vehicle was struck directly on the passenger side at an estimated 30 mph. The front passenger door was deformed to the point it can no longer be opened. Despite this significant side impact and the presence of an occupied child seat in the rear, no side curtain airbags deployed—including those designed to protect rear outboard passengers. This vehicle is equipped with side curtain airbags as standard equipment. We believe this may constitute a failure of the supplemental restraint system (srs) to perform as intended under fmvss 214 and 226. We request that this report be associated with the prior complaint and considered in any manufacturer or regulatory investigation.

12 Air Bag problem of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 02/15/2025

The contact owned a 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, the vehicle sustained a rear-end collision from another vehicle at a high rate of speed. No air bags deployed. The contact stated that the vehicle's left side had violently crashed into a wall, then the vehicle ricocheted onto the front driver's side, causing the tire to collapse where it came to a stop. The contact stated that a passenger was sitting in the front passenger seat, a passenger in the rear driver side seat, and a passenger in the rear passenger seat. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a local tow lot where it was deemed a total loss. The contact stated that he spent 6 days in the hospital for injuries to both knees and the spine. The passenger did not seek medical attention. The local deal was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50.

21 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 09/12/2024

I picked up my vehicle from having a recall service done. But when I was unloading the rental car my car began to roll due to ebrake recall that has not been properly addressed. Have warning lights indicating airbag service and that passenger airbag is off when it is occupied. Airbags should never fail, nor should brakes. No matter miles or salt on road. If salt corodes a certain part than it must be an aloy that will not corrode. Also brake lines should not ever rust they too should be coated with epoxy or alloy metals that are impervious to salt. . .

33 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 05/16/2023

I have had multiple issues with this SUV. The main issue I am writing this for is because the car was hit stopped at a red light by another car going over 40 mph. The car rolled back then slammed into my car again going just as fast. The airbags did not deploy and the seatbelts did not lock. The impact actually broke the seats the passenger and I were sitting in. There were extensive injuries that happened because of this. The SUV was deemed a total loss because of the extensive damage done to the car. There were no warning messages, no recalls, etc. The SUV was inspected by a mechanic and insurance company and both said that the airbags should have gone off and the seatbelts should have locked based on the amount of damage to the SUV. I also took this SUV into the Mitsubishi dealership for all services/maintenance and nothing ever came up about any issues.
