39 Suspension problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 04/27/2021

Mitsubishi has a limited recall for rusted crossmembers on 2008+ Outlander sports from certain states that used salt to treat snow. My daughter's 2008 Outlander has always been registered in satellite beach, FL, a very salty atmosphere. The front wheels wobble on acceleration and rapid deceleration because the crossmember is severely rusted - caused by the beachside salty location. It's unsafe to drive as the suspension components may break loose at any time. The NHTSA campaign no. 20v280000 should include salty, beachside locations like satellite beach. It is obviously a safety issue very similar to what NHTSA already acted on.

41 Suspension problem of the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 12/23/2020

On December 23, 2020 I was driving aprx 30 mph. I break to go over a train track bringing my speed to roughly 20mph. I heard a noise that sounded like metal but I figured it was from the train tracks. There was a wide bend a few feet up the way. I get my speed to 40mph and start going around the bend. I slow down and try turning to turn the wheel. I could turn the wheel but the car was not moving in the direction I was turning. I press the break but I began to hydroplane causing me and my 3 children to crash into a huge ditch drain. Upon farther inspection the tower identified the cause of the accident was my wheel alignment. My wheels were not pointing the same direction meaning something with the steering broke (possibly the noise I heard. ) I have researched since this day and found that other people have had the same issues with their Outlanders starting in 2008.

44 Suspension problem of the 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 09/05/2020

The vehicle has extreme rust and corrosion. Car was service under the manufacturer recall on September 05, 2020. The subframe crossmember has rusted so bad that it is a safety hazard. On my paperwork from the dealership it stated that anti-corrosion aerosol was applied with nox rust 712am. It also stated that the recall passed inspection. How is that possible and it's falling apart. The dealership it was taken to was south suburban in matteson, IL. Car is not safe to drive because of possibility of frame coming loose from the body of vehicle.

45 Suspension problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 08/08/2020

I received a recall notice from Mitsubishi related to a cross member of the frame. There was a problem with the vehicle and I took it in for service and they discovered a corrosion issue which I had they service garage fix and I paid for the repair. Mitsubishi is denying the claim because they say that there was no deflection of the cross member. There was no deflection of the cross member because I had it repaired before Mitsubishi's recall notice. I would like to be reimbursed for $358. 51 the cost of the repair per the recall notice. The repair notice is and the repair invoice are attached.

46 Suspension problem of the 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander

The entire undercarriage is rusted out, it was taken to ricart near columbus ohio where they simply sprayed an anti rust coating over the existing rust. 47 Suspension problem of the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 03/30/2020

My vehicle has had over 10 recalls but Mitsubishi has refused to properly fix any of the problems. I will attach a photo of the control arms and certain parts and recalls they cleared, and sent me on my way with. Now there is full suspension damage. Tire damage. And an entire list of other recalls that were never fixed by Mitsubishi. Also airbag light, incorrect gas level. Windshield fluid leaking, and more. My front tire is about to fly off. There are problems with the struts. And no mechanic wants to touch it due to a strut recall and can’t even buy struts anywhere for my car. They have been taken off the market completely. I have a 8 year old child in this car. And both of our lives at risk. I have brought it to several mechanics and they are in shock at the damage and how we have survived. I have had to pay with my own money for certain repairs because Mitsubishi said “everything looks fine” and sent me on my way. And now refuse to open a claim and pay it back. Or fix all the damage it has caused since the first control arm problem. I can get receipts and invoices together. But honestly the entire car is a huge liability and needs an immediate solution!.

52 Suspension problem of the 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 07/15/2019

This model vehicle has a bad design flaw that Mitsubishi refuses to acknowledge. The location of the air conditioner discharge causes water to drip directly onto the sub frame below. This dripping corroded a hole through my sub frame deeming it structurally unsound and unsafe to drive, and caused it failed my state inspection. My local dealer and Mitsubishi both refused to cover the cost of replacing the part since no recall currently exists. I ended up getting a used part from a local shop for half the cost of what the dealer quoted me. I also had the mechanic jury rig an ac discharge tube extension to direct the water away from the sub frame so it wouldn't keep happening. Had my state inspector not caught this corrosion, I would be still driving the unsafe vehicle. A compromised sub frame could result in numerous failures that could cause an accident. I was lucky it did not get to that point. It is clear the corrosion is a direct result of the ac discharge, rather than normal wear and tear. The rest of the sub frame and suspension through out the vehicle does not have anywhere near the level or corrosion that is directly below the ac discharge tube. Google searching this problem makes it clear I am not the only one. There are other models of Outlanders and Outlander sports that seem to have the same issue. This needs to be investigated so a recall can be issued for all models with this design.

53 Suspension problem of the 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 05/15/2019

Mitsubishi Outlander se front subframe crossmember cradle has corroded and will not pass inspection. The cradle is where the steering attaches and raises a safety concern should the cradle break due to the corrosion. There are many Mitsubishi vehicles that have a recall on this condition, but for some reason this vehicle is not included.

56 Suspension problem of the 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 04/09/2019

My son only weeks ago was given his mother's 2007 Outlander as an upgrade to his former vehicle. Days ago, he found pieces of the sub frame breaking off underneath after hearing an odd noise during operation. This vehicle was purchased new in 2007 in omaha, ne. Mitsubishi's recall for sub frame corrosion does not include vehicles purchased in nebraska as it isn't in the narrowly defined "salt belt" (although iowa is included). If you have never been to omaha, ne during the winter you would know that the city puts as much salt and salt brine on the roads as anywhere else in the nation--winter weather, I. E. Snow and ice-- in omaha is severe. Vehicles that are operated regularly in the omaha area rust prematurely and that is a fact. This vehicle is now unsafe to drive and the value is probably near zero but Mitsubishi will not cover the cost to repair. The NHTSA should extend the sub frame recall to other states where the use of road salt is extensive I. E. Nebraska, colorado, utah, etc. . . This is a travesty and should be rectified immediately before someone is severely injured or killed driving these vehicles.

57 Suspension problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander

58 Suspension problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 03/28/2019

Noticed that the crossmember has rotted away at the weld and not safe to drive. All other components are ok. There is a recall for 2008 v6 models for the corrosion, but not for 2008 4 cyl?? it uses the same defective parts back in 2008.

59 Suspension problem of the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 03/25/2019

The transmission jerks when you change from driving in reverse to drive. The rear passenger wheel feels loose after going over minor bumps.

60 Suspension problem of the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 10/25/2018

I had a recall schedule an appoint with Mitsubishi dealer in des moines, IA * went to my appt today 10-25 and was told they cannot do the recall because the computer they need to reset the software is down. No call or offer to give me a loan car due to the saftey issue of the recall. I do not think that any dealership should take recalls and saftey issues with the recalls the lightly. Thank you.

65 Suspension problem of the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander

Failure Date: 09/21/2017

1. Speed control: our family Outlander has had some issues following our purchase, and I was assured that the hesitation when depressing the accelerator was just a product of the cvt transmission. It’s something we have just learned to deal with given the information we were provided with. It has put us in a bad position with countless near misses over the years when needing to merge, and the annoying stall that happens when accelerating after a stop sign or red light. We have just moved from the midwest to phoenix(car only has 30k miles), and the hesitation and stalling is worse than ever. Even with a 3/4 depress on the accelerator, the notion of movement correlating with the amount of gas given is an eon apart. I must also mention that there are times that the car releases like a race car as well, but with minimal pressure on the accelerator. It seems like it’s an obvious programming issue or maybe just a few bad relays. I’m hoping there is a light at the end of the tunnel for this one. 2. Suspension: our vehicle has sounded like it has had major issues since the beginning, but was told it was normal. The car has always made a loud clunk when reversing after a first of the day start. It is then followed up after warming up with a clunk in the front seats center below us, and while turning in either direction. Hitting any minor bump on a highway while on any mild curve also causes the vehicle to jump a few feet over by itself. It’s frightening judging just how the car will grip after it’s roll. The only remedy is to decelerate under the speed limit during any curve to avoid the situation all together. I’m not sure I’d ever purchase a Mitsubishi again, as I’m only scratching the surface with mechanical defects. I would be happy to finally get some answers on how this was left in the dark so long. It’s comforting knowing friends and family dealing with the same problems. Thanks you, and warm regards! edward j yonushatis ii.

Recall issued August 2016 for possible corrosion on cross member. Vehicle taken to dealer, inspected, anti rust agent applied to cross member. On subsequent visits to two independent garages for service we were advised of severe corrosion of under carriage, steering parts, and suspension. The first visit was in October 2016, second visit in February, 2017. It is evident the work done by the dealer was unsatisfactory.
