1 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2005 Nissan 350Z

Failure Date: 03/26/2008

One month past my warranty expiration date my 350z stalled on the freeway. Subsequent diagnostics discovered a crank position sensor malfunction. The sensor was replaced, and the vehicle ran smoothly for another month or so. I am again experiencing a similar malfunction. Both malfunctions occurred at highway speeds of 60-70 mph. The malfunction resulted in extremely dangerous conditions, as I was forced to coast off the highway. I have read that Nissan has previously recalled vehicles due to this type of malfunction.

2 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2003 Nissan 350Z

Failure Date: 12/02/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan 350z. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle completely lost power and would not restart until ten minutes later. The failure occurred without warning. Soon after, the check engine light illuminated. An auto zone employee stated that the camshaft sensor and crankshaft malfunctioned. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). The purchase date was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 74,000. Updated 4/2/08 the dealer stated that a fuel hose recall has been performed on the vehicle and emergency brake is not performing properly. Updated 04/02/08.

3 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2006 Nissan 350Z

Failure Date: 10/10/2007

I bought a 2006 Nissan 350z. One morning after about 4,000 miles of mostly highway driving, I heard a strange sound coming from under the hood that sounded like valve tapping. It got louder and louder as the engine got warmer. I recognized the sound from an old work van that I used to have before the engine blew due to it having no oil. Sure enough, the crankcase was empty. There was no oil and the engine took a full 5 quarts of oil. There are no external oil leaks on the engine. I found out that the Nissan "revup" engines in the 2006 350z have an oil consumption problem. I took the car to a Nissan dealership, where, after an oil consumption test, informed me that burning 1 quart of oil per 1,000 miles is normal. Nissan is aware of the problem and has issued a TSB. They need to do a recall, an engine seizing can lead to an accident and kill people. Thanks for listening.

4 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2004 Nissan 350Z

Failure Date: 03/22/2005

I purchased a 2004 Nissan 350z touring model in July 2004 and have put approximately 10,000 miles on it since then. The car ran out of oil in the first 5,000 miles. Since then, I have had to add, on average, around 2 to 3 quarts of oil every 3,000 miles. Several dealers insist that this is normal. My local dealer finally began a oil consumption test and noticed the car needed 3 to 4 quarts of oil after 2,000 miles. The dealer called Nissan and Nissan said that this was a known issue with the pcv valve. Nissan advised the dealer to replace the valve gaskets. I am concerned that permanent damage has already been done to the engine.
