I have heard many, many stories of steering lock failure on these cars made from 2008-2010 Nissan's more expensive sports car, rhe gt-r, has the same problem with the same parts and was the subject of a recall. Will something be done? people are beng stranded all over when their vehicles won't start!.
Steering wheel lock unit failed in lock position disabling vehicle. Out of warranty replacement required. Research indicated that this part is based on a faulty design that has subsequently been removed from later model years but due to this defect and frequent failure rate I expect to have to replace it annually at a cost of over $500 per incident. The vehicle is completely disabled when this part fails requiring the vehicle to be towed to a service station at owner's expense. This part is clearly a faulty design and should be recalled by the manufacturer and replaced with a design that doesn't fail annually or eliminated.

this is a known issue with the Nissan steering lock mechanism as others have reported. My car was stranded in the middle of nowhere. Could not start the car, the manual key was not help. Car would not start. I tried to order the part, steering lock version 'd', but it's backordered and Nissan USA is not selling this part to consumers according to northern virginia Nissan dealers. My only resource was it get it towed and pay $1450. 00 for part + labor from the dealer directly. This is definitely not right. My car has 5000 miles on it. And the steering lock failure (version a,b,c) has happened to many owners who have keyless ignition on Nissan on the gtr model, and the part was recalled. Yet for 370z owners, no action. Definitely my last Nissan. . .

Steering lock mechanism fails, car will not start. Impossible to tow out or push out if inside narrow garage, or garage that requires maneuvering because steering column is locked. The same unit has been recalled for Nissan gtr - must be recalled for 370z, as well. Has very dangerous potential to leave someone stranded.
Steering lock fails and wont let me restart, lock or unlock the car (keyless system).
Car would not start due to steering lock failure. Part was back-ordered and took over 4 weeks to receive part and replace. Serious issue as there is no way to start the car when this happens. Was without the car for over 4 weeks.
Steering lock solenoid failure at 38. 5k 1,500miles after 36k warranty. After dealership played parts changer for 3 weeks they finally worked up to the steering lock solenoid. Steering lock assm. $542 - $622 - #48700-jf00b production date: 2008. 10-2009. 08 - #48700-jf00c production date: 2009. 08-2009. 10 - #48700-jf00c production date: 2009. 10-2010. 09 - #48700-jf00d production date: 2010. 09- current (you want this one "d") obviously this part has gone through revisions. Total repair $837. 00 - 3 weeks in the shop. Had to have car towed to dealer after the "yellow" key light showed up. This part has failed on many Nissan models with this type of electronic steering wheel lock. This needs to be a recall and anyone who paid to have it fixed needs to be reimbursed. A class action lawsuit need to be filed.
Steering lock solenoid failed at 38120 miles (2120 miles outside electrical warranty) yellow "key" warning light on dash only illuminated the morning off failure. Went to leave work car would not start due to steering lock solenoid failure. Had to have vehicle flat bedded to dealership at the cost of $121. 10. Thank god this didn't fail while driving. This is a well know issue within the online forums / community. I'm currently requesting a full reimbursement from Nissan motor corp for the repair cost of $887. 37 plus the tow bill. I have recently returned to the online forums and have read over 25 pages of failures with the Nissan 370z. I also heard of this issue on Nissan gtr and maxima vehicles.
