Failure Date: 08/26/2015

Like many others my 2003 Nissan Altima has stalled in traffic while driving. It reads no codes. There could have been a serious accident! this is a major concern I could have been on the interstate or in having traffic. I called Nissan and they state there was a recall for a problem to this affect and it was already fixed on this vehicle in 2007. They will not fix it again. Unbelieveable! also like many other my floor board has rusted. I had a patch repair to pass inspection. This car is a saftey hazord. After reading numerous reports that others have experienced similar situations of cutting off in traffic! I have not read any fatalities yet thank goodness! recall this car befor someone is killed!.

Failure Date: 02/18/2015

I was driving home with my husband and 3 grandchildren after having dinner noticed smoke and exited the road way to find there was a fire under hood, the inside of car filled up with smoke before we could exit, we called 911 and they responded, they said it was caused from an electrical fire was all we were told, they towed the car away with out any investigation, was wondering if any recalls have caused this? the car is at lauzons towing in malone NY, all we could think of at the time was to get the children out of the cold and off the highway then to seek what had caused this. Im writing in hopes to maybe get some answers as to what could have caused this. Hoping to hear back from someone soon on this matter. Thank you dawn bushey.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2013

I note some Nissan Altimas havr recalls on camsensor and speedsensonsor. This vehicle has same problems. Vehicle shuts off on the road cam sensor was changed but was good for a couple years does the same mechanic says faulty plastic clip. Also vehicle gets stuck in low gear while driving and the car will have to be pulled iver restarted to get it to reset otherwise car will run in low gear at high rpms. . I noticed recalls on the Nissan Altima for for these sensors. However not this model according to the dealer.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2012

The driver side door does not open from the inside making this a severe safety issue. The only way to open the door is to keep the key in the ignition, roll down the window, reach out and open the door, then close window, shut off car, and exit the vehicle. In an emergency it will be nearly impossible to do this within a reasonable time. This issue could result in further injury or death to the driver.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2011

This situation has happened a few times; I park my car (turn engine off) do groceries, shopping, etc, come back, I turn the car on and the car is like stalling, like its idle but you can feel the shaking on the steering wheel. I didn't want to drive on this situation. I turned the engine off, turn it back on and still the same situation. I have to wait 3-5 minutes with engine off, then I turn it on and the car starts working normal. There is no "service engine soon" light on the dashboard. This is happening time to time. At first I thought it could be someting with the gasoline in the tank, that is not the case because I left my tank almost to empty and load a new tank, different gas station and still does the same. I called the dealer where I bought it, asked for any recalls on my car's model/year. They say no recalls for this year/model. I started searching for similar problems and I read a few articles that the '02 models have been recalled for similar issues, also that the same '03 model in canada has been recalled and serviced for same issue. Although I cannot prove that what I read is true, I believe this problem should be checked by Nissan dealership maintenance centers since there is no alert signs on the dashboards.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2010

Car was shaking while driving. I had the cam sensors replaced several days ago. I have researched briefly online and found other people have the same issue. Other models on the vehicle have been covered on a recall; however, Nissan Altima 2003 2. 5s apparently is not recalled in this area. This is a potentially hazardous issue.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2010

The engine stalls when stopped or moving at slow speeds. This happens intermittently, between 1-15 times a month in normal driving. There is an outstanding recall (06v242000) that matches my problem but my VIN doesn't match those being recalled.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2010

2003 Nissan Altima 3. 5l v6 se - the door locks keep locking repeatedly. Will do this while I am in and out of the car regardless of key fob use. My hazard lights flash each time. This has been ongoing for over a week and has increased in frequency and duration. It is now constant - going on every 3-5 seconds. I had trouble getting my daughter out of the car because the door kept locking on me. I worry about the ability to get out quickly if needed. It brings attention to my car throughout the night. I believe this is a safety issue on many levels. It has not been fixed yet. I have been told it may be the door lock actuators.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

My air conditioner has always been running even when the button has been off. I've asked the dealer many times over the years and they said it's fine. Now about 2 years ago my airconditioner won't go on, it's intermittent but if it does go on it only works for 5 minutes. I finally paid the 129. 00 to have it checked and was told the intelligan power distribution module has failed. This has been recalled in many other Nissans but not the Altima. During a search I found lots of other Altima owners with the same problem. I tried contacting Nissan but they don't care.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2008

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima that when driving will cut off. This occurs at least 4 or 5 times while driving. I received notice that the car is under recalled. After taking my car to a diagnostic shop, it was determined that the codes matched the recalled part. Nissan dealership located at 2207 wake forest road, refuse to make the repair to the recalled part. The diagnostic test stated that the car was cutting off because of the recalled part and the dealership refused to make the repair claiming that I would have to pay first and then they would make the repair just in case other codes are found and if other codes are found I would have to pay to have them reset before they would fix the recalled repair. I have a daughter ( 3 years of age) and I am concerned that I will get hit causing both of us injury.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2007

2003 Nissan Altima stalls while driving. When I go in reverse and then put the car in drive the car continues to go in reverse. Stalls when I step on the accelerator but speeds up when I step on the breaks, I have to repeatedly slam my foot on the break to avoid hitting cars in front of me. The check engine light continues to come on, when it does the car stalls even more. I took it to a Nissan dealership they gave it a diagnostic test. They stated that they entered a code for the sensors, but were not sure if that was the actual problem with the car. I have been taking this car to Nissan mechanics since I purchased it in 2007 and it is still doing the same thing in 2010. The engine light continues to come on and it continues to stall. I do not feel safe in this vehicle.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2007

Service engine soon light comes up on my dashboard of Nissan Altima 2003. When I took it to the dealer, they said that there are a few recalls on this vehicle and they will fix it. After about 15 minutes of driving from their location, the light came up again. The car runs like its brakes are on. It once stopped at a traffic light. There is a big concern if it stops in the middle of the road and causes accident. How can I get Nissan to address it?.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2006

While driving on the PA turnpike my engine cut out without warning. I had to come to a complete stop, put the car in park and restart it. It did restart, I drove a few more miles and the same thing occurred. This happened while I was in the passing lane on the turnpike in heavy traffic.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2006

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Altima. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact shifted into neutral, restarted the engine, and drove to her residence. She called the dealer and was informed that the vehicle was not being properly maintained. Later that week, the contact received a recall notice stating that the vehicle's electrical control module (ecm) needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was returned to the dealer and they reprogrammed the electrical control module. Immediately following the repair, the vehicle stalled again and the power steering became inoperable. She returned the vehicle to the dealer and they reprogrammed the ecm for the third time due to consistent stalling. Six months later, the stalling recurred. She called the dealer and was informed that the recall was satisfied and they were not liable for further repairs. A diagnostic test was performed at a local repair shop, which revealed that the crank shaft positioning sensor was defective. The mechanic informed her that the crank shaft positioning sensor was supposed to be repaired before reprogramming the ecm. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls for the crank shaft positioning system. The vehicle has not been repaired. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. The current mileage was 125,000 and failure mileage was 62,000. Updated 10-30-08 updated 11/03/08.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2006

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima 2. 5 s and my oil is just disappearing from the engine. I do not see leaking, but it is being consumed somehow. There is a recall speaking of this issue. But Nissan says that it doesn't matter because my VIN number is not apart of the recall. I have the same make and model, and year so I believe if my vehicle is doing the same thing, then something needs to be done about it. My car has now been parked in the garage for 2 months because I don't want to blow up the engine, because if I drive anywhere, all the oil in the engine will be gone.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2006

The engine shuts off in stop and go traffic. Loss of power on highways and interstates. Will not crank after a failure. The engine has to be turned over several times before cranking. The problem is gradually getting worse.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2006

My car would lose power and turn off while driving down the road.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2006

In January 2006 I began experiencing stalling episodes with my Nissan Altima 2003 while driving the car would without warning stall. This occurred more than once and twice happened on my way to work on i95. The dealer was not able to identify the issue until Feb 2007 (in the meantime I drove this unsafe car). In Feb 2006 a sensor was replaced that had been causing the problem. I paid close to $2,000 in unnecessary repairs and was charged for a rental car. I found today that Nissan is officially reporting my 2006 issue as a recall. While I'm very thankful that I was not seriously injured or had a car crash that resulted in anyone else being hurt by the unidentified recall at the time of my experience I would like to receive compensation for the funds that I paid and I'm not sure how you place a price tag on the car stalling several times and 2 of those times being on 195. I have received to date after months of working directly with Nissan and prior to today's announcement finally that Nissan is recognizing my issue as a recall and hopefully saving several future accidents and/or fatalities a small check for $550. 11. Which comes nowhere near covering the monetary lose I suffered forget the mental anguish of the car stalling with no warning.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2005

While driving 55 mph vehicle stalled. Driver was unable to restart vehicle, had it towed to a dealer for inspection. However, mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2005

The recall catalytic converter was replaced by the dealer while the vehicle was having other repairs made. Fifteen months later the vehicle caught on fire while stopped at a red light. The consumer believes the fire was related to the recall.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2004

The debris/fire recall 03v084000 was performed by the dealership twice, but the remedy failed both times.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2003

The oil in the engine evaporated and white and black smoke emitted from the exhaust pipe while driving. The dealership serviced the vehicle 3 times, twice due to the debris/fire recall 03v084000. But, the problem still exists. Nissan had not authorized the service to place a new engine in the consumer's vehicle.

30 Electrical System problem

Consumer made an appointment with the dealer for a recall repair, and asked if vehicle is safe to drive before repair date, dealer said yes. 2 days before repair date, vehicle stopped running while traveling at 65 mph. Vehicle has more than a quarter of gas on it. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer, and it was later found out that ice build-up on the fuel line which caused the stalling. Problem was fixed and dealer assured consumer that it was safe to drive. Another recall that needed repair on vehicle's pre-catalyst. Consumer was informed by dealer that repair couldn't be done in a month and a half due to parts restriction.
