At first we thought it was the belt because the belt from coming off you change the serpentine belt and then it would run for a little bit then it started to stop and not be able to get enough fuel to the gas pedal and I'd have to rev it up. We opened it up where the spark plugs were on the valve covers and it was halfway full of oil we got all the oil out when we ordered a new valve cover and spark plugs the car run fine for one day now it will not start again. The fan turns on like it is running but there is no power to the car at all. I read that after the oil gets into the valve covers there's really no fixing it after that. And every time that we fix it only last for one day and so it's very dangerous for me and my daughter to be driving around in that unreliable car what can I do about the recall.

1. Three handles on the Nissan Altima on my car have snapped off when opening. Even after replacing them they still snap off probably because in cold weather they become brittle. If he handles were metal they would not snap off. My concern is if during an accident before emergency vehicles could arrive that if someone were to try to assist getting me out of the car the handles would snap off and they could not remove me from the car. This is extremely dangerous the handles on cars should not snap off and plastic handles are extremely dangerous in all climates. 2. I have had my front headlights cleaned three times and they always fog up within several weeks of cleaning. The dealership has said it is faulty design and to replace the headlamps is close to a thousand dollars with 1 year guarantee which is very cost prohibitive. I have seen cars less than two years old with opaque head lamps this is unaccetable and dangerous that lights can not project light appropriately and this is on most models of cars. If you are in rural areas and the lights do not project light this is a big problem. I can not believe that metal handles and durable headlight covers that don't fog are not required of these companies. Until the last 15-20 years this was never a problem but car manufacturers are opting for cheap materials that can have lethal repercussions for crucial safety items. Car handles and head lamps as far as safety are as crucial as proper airbag function. Handles should not snap off in your hands and headlamps if cleaned should remain clean and not foggy and this does not happen. Please address this concern.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2019

Something is wrong with the crank shaft. It runs rough it stalls and the gas mileage is very off.

9 Equipment problem

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2019

There is a recall for 2005 Nissan Altima because of over heating due to a failing crankshat/camshaft position sensor which causes car to stall unexpectedly and cause vehicle to crash. Well my vehicle is not on the recall list but yet have the same issue and almost was rear ended by another vehicle due to sensor getting hot and causing car to stall and decrease speed dramatically. And with Nissan not recalling my VIN for the same obvious reasons for the recall. So I'm being forced to drive this unsafe car that I've let Nissan know is defected, thus endangering myself and the public. It's as though I have to be in an accident and then have to sue Nissan because of neglet and allowing one of their vehicles continue to operate knowing that there is an issue with its safety. So I may be forced to have problem fixed but would like to be reimbursed for repairs.

Over two months ago my grandson opened the outside driver side door of my Nissan Altima and the handle came off in his hand. The car was parked in my driveway. My son checked for recalls and said there where no recalls, even though he found that this had happened to other owners. He also found the prices for fixing with a dealer or other mechanic. After a few days of driving the vehicle without the handle being fixed, it occurred to me that this could be a safety hazard. If I were in an accident and passed out no one could open the door in a timely manner to remove me or others (if it was a passenger door) from the vehicle. I called Nissan headquarters and filed a case a day or so later. I received a call within a day or two and explained the situation and my concerns but I was told the vehicle is too many months out of warranty and too many miles out of warranty. I explained problem and the safety concerns but nothing made a difference. I told the first agent who initially took my case, when asked what Nissan could do for me, I said give me a discount on the repair/replacement of outside driver side door handle. A couple of weeks later I received an email survey from Nissan headquarters and again expressed my concern regarding safety and also the concerns I recently had regarding the Nissan dealership I had been dealing with since I originally purchased the car brand new from this particular dealer. I have not heard any more from Nissan headquarters in more than a month. My son did glue the handle back for me, but just recently it came off again. I may need to have it professionally repaired. In order to get into the vehicle, I must unlock it with the remote (I think that is what it is called) and let the window down and reach in to open the door. After holding the door handle in my hand, I believe it is just made of plastic.

Upon inspection prior to trying to privately sell my car, it was found that the floorboards were rusting out and there are actual hole on the underside of the car. Apparently, upon me googling, this is a known design issue (rather than normal wear and tear) for Nissans between 2002-2006. To fix the car will cost me more than it is worth. Not only that, but holes in the floorboards are also a huge safety concern.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2017

I had a big hole on my passenger side as well as driver side on floor. My passenger airbag lights on. If anyone can help me out that will be so useful for me. Please take an action as soon as possible. Thanks.

Failure Date: 08/18/2016

Sorry for my belated complaint. I just learned of your website. Early evening Aug 18, 2016 entire rear window of my 2005 Nissan Altima completely blew out for no apparent reason. Fortunately -- nobody was sitting in back seat(s) of my car - no adults & no childrens !! what a big mess !! a clear & normal summer evening - no severe weather conditions to even provoke a crazy & sudden incident like this. Luckily -- I was not on a highway. I was on a quiet suburban road with relatively low traffic. I was at stop light & suddenly heard a loud pop sound -- almost like a gun shot. I checked my rear view mirror & my entire car rear window was blown out with very large holes & tiny shattered glass pieces strewn all over inside back seat area of my car. Some shattered glass even blew out all way to front section where I was seated !! I immediately got off the road & pulled over into nearby walgreens parking lot & called local police. Policeman came & examined my car. He did not feel any foul play was involved nor any gunshot nor baseball thrown into my rear car window. I took 24 photos ¿ see 5 uploaded. He helped me gather most of broken & shattered glass into a plastic bag. We noted a few pieces had dark brown burn marks on them. He said most likely it indicated a "short" occurred in rear defroster electrical system. He could not prepare police report bcuz it did not involve any foul play. Next day I called Nissan consumer affairs (nca). They asked me to email my 24 photos to nca & only agreed to pay to replace rear car window. I told nca it was probably a short in rear defroster electrical system ¿ a serious Nissan safety issue & defect. For me ¿ a scary incident !! I saved all shattered glass pieces with dark brown burn marks, but nca did not want them. Unfortunately -- I can only upload 5 photos. If you want to view all 24 photos - call or text my cell 224-245-4624.

The floorboards on my 2005 Nissan Altima are completely rusted through. You can see the carpet from the underbed on both sides (driver and passanger). I understand that this may be a flaw in the drainage system of my car and it¿s pretty costly to get this repaired & to be perfectly honest, I can¿t afford to get it repaired. I also understand that many people have reported the same problems with their Altimas.

23 Equipment problem

Sunroof blew away while we were driving on highway at 65 mph. Already subject to voluntary safety recall: holland 700 and hollandia 900. We did not have the info. Webasto is unhelpful in getting car repaired.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2016

The floor boards under the passenger's feet are completely rusted out. This is a huge safety hazard and should be treated as such. I was doing my reserach and from all the reports, it doesn't seem like Nissan or NHTSA is taking this seriously. You can see the road thru the huge holes.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2015

Driver's side floor board has rusted through from the inside out. There is a drainage issue.

My 2005 nissian Altima has been giving me issues with the shifter when attempting to switch gear from reverse to drive it takes several minutes just for the car to go into gear and when doing so jerks extremely hard. . . I have also had many issues with it not wanting to start and I will have to place vehicle in neutral then force back into park many times before my car will start. . . This vehicle has been well maintained and kept very clean. . . While having car inspected I was informed of the floor boards rotting out. . . I have tried to contact Nissan and discuss these issues. . . I have had 000 results in being able to do so. . . This is very dangerous. . . If I would have known of these issues I would have never purchased this vehicle. . . And with the treatment from Nissan. . . Will never purchase any vehicle from them again.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2015

Takata recall. Vehicle has had multiple issues with the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor. When dealer is notified, dealer refuses that there was a past recall on this part for the 2005 Nissan Altima with a 2. 5 engine. Dealer will not help. This vehicle has turned off while in motion as well as stationary . This vehicle also would not start up. Local mechanic is quoted saying " vehicle's engine parts are the exact engine parts from when the car was made. The parts were never replaced. ".

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2015

My car has been rejected 2 years in a row during my routine inspection, due to rusted/rotted out floor board on the passenger side of the vehicle. I brought my Nissan to kelly Nissan of lynnfield in July 2014, after my local auto mechanic failed it [July 2014] due to rusted/rotted out floor board on the passenger side of the vehicle. The dealership passed my car in inspection and told us that there was no cause for concern about the floorboard. Today, I brought my vehicle for inspection [past due] to my local auto mechanic, and they failed it due to rusted/rotted out floor board on the passenger side of the vehicle. They approximated the hole is 4 inches by 6 inches. I contacted Nissan and created a case file. I am supposed to be contacted by a local representative by cob tomorrow. The manager of kelly Nissan of lynnfield called me to tell me that he cannot do anything to help me until a determination is made by the local rep, and hopefully it will go through, as it appears that I have brought my car to their dealership enough to warrant them to do the repair. So that was the good news; that I have enough history with their dealership that I could potentially get it repaired.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2015

The entire front passenger side undercarriage is rusted out. I purchased this car new from a Nissan dealership and took it into the same dealership for 10 years every 3,500 miles. The dealership never mentioned that the undercarriage was rusting out. I only learned of the issue when I took the car to an independent mechanic for an annual safety inspection.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2015

As you well know by now, the numerous documented issues with 2002-2006 Nissan Altima has alas reached my Nissan Altima. Floorboard is rusting intensely but I am not do rich so can't afford the thousands of dollars that every mechanic (I paid to inspect by the way) is quoting me. Nothing much to add to this description because no one is going to do anything about this anyway. Issue has been on local newscasts so my insignificant contribution of filing complaint is strictly to join the cause in mind and spirit. By no means trying to sound insensitive instead truthful; it's clear someone will have to die before things change, just hope isn't is me.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2015

Crankshaft position sensor same thing is happening to the 2005 summary: on certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 2. 5l engine, the crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor. Consequence: if the interruption in the signal from the crankshaft position sensor is so brief that the electronic control module (ecm) logic does not have time to diagnose the condition, the engine may stop running without warning while the vehicle is driven at a low speed increasing the risk of a crash.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2015

The car's electrical system failed and while driving. The brake and battery lights kept going off and on. There was also a clanking sound. I stopped and let car cool. Continued driving and noticed fire from my rear view mirror. Ran out of car and it caught fire 30 seconds after followed by couple of explosions.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2015

Noticed that the floor pan on passenger side has a big rust hole. Drivers side floor pan is starting to show the rust coming thru also.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2015

I recently had my 2005 Nissan Altima in the shop for and oil change & front brake replacement. The tech reported a rust issue on the drivers & passenger side floor pans. He got a nearby body shop to give a repair quote, which is ~$700. I took a look under the car myself & was shocked to find floor rust ~18" x 9" on passenger & driver floor boards. The rust holes are almost identical. There are no other rust spots on the car, which leads me to believe there is a factory defect. A look on line showed what I suspected; an epidemic of rust in the same location on every Altima! my car spent its first 8 years in southeast michigan. The last 2 have been in florida. The car has been garage-kept its entire life. The isolation of the rust is very obvious. This car has been probably the most reliable car I've ever owned, which makes this rust issue so disappointing. From the research I've gathered, Nissan has no intention of standing behind this issue. I had plans to trade this car in on a Nissan quest in 2016. I will be crossing Nissan off the list.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2015

Front floorboards rusting though, looking at other complaints this seems to be a common problem with this car.
