36 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

My daughter was driving her 2005 Nissan Altima and over corrected in a curve. She hit a tree and the air bag in the steering wheel deployed. She was wearing her seat belt and was held back by the seat belt her head impacting the center or the steering wheel. The cover over the air bag blew out hinging itself at the top and making two very pointed and sharp edges on each bottom corner. The right bottom point pierced the skin between her nose and the corner of her left eye missing it by less than a sixteenth of an inch and breaking her nose. The dangerous part is the two sharp points on the flap where the air big deployed should be considered a design flaw.

The floor of my 2005 Nissan Altima has rusted out on both sides, this shoulld be a recall because I have read that other customers have the same problem.

38 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

A mechanic, during an unrelated repair, reported he could see carpet from the underneath my car and upon further inspection discovered two holes in the floorboards on the drivers and passengers sides (front seat). I took this in for an estimate and it will cost $700-1000 to repair. This is a defect in the manufacturer's design. . . These floorboards should not rust completely through like this. I have children and am worried that road debris or something ripping through the carpet from the inside could cause injury or worse and this is a safety issue.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2015

So besides the fact that my floor board on my drivers side has a huge hole in it, the crankshaft position sensor has cause me enough problems to where I believe Nissan should be responsible for fixing this issue. The vehicle idles rough, when accelerating it feels like the car is about to shut off, and the check engine light will not go off no matter how many times you change the sensor. I've had mine changed four times. I am actually sick of this vehicle now and will never buy another Nissan. To make it worse I can't take the car out of town because it will get hot then the clutch sticks to the floor. I have to lift it with my foot and it still won't engage, it loses all pressure. So driving long distance is out of the question. Someone needs to fix this before there is an accident. I almost got hit because I couldn't get my car to go into third gear. When I do get in an accident I will sue Nissan and anybody else who knew about these problems with this car and sat back and did nothing.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2015

Car was in shop for front end suspension and technician pointed out rust holes under both the passenger and driver seats. This seems to be a defect in the manufacturing of the body, and was looking to see if there is a recall. Could cause potential dangerous situation if object in road is hit and comes up under the undercarriage.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2015

I am driving a 2005 Nissan Altima se-r with approximately 140,000 miles on it. I was driving on a busy road and coming to a stop for a traffic light, probably at 5 to 10 mph. The engine shut off for no reason. I went to autozone and got the engine code and it is for can shaft position sensor. I browsed internet and this seems a common problem.

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2015

I had been aware there there was some rust on the driver's side floor pan. My Altima was recently taken to my mechanic and put on the lift for some maintenance and my mechanic took pictures to show me how extensive the rust had become. A significant portion of the floor under the driver's feet is missing and a large piece of metal is hanging down. The mechanic also noticed that the passenger side now has a small patch of rust.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2015

Took car in for oil change at an independent shop. Technician noticed that floor pans were rusted on both driver and passenger sides. In the 7-8 years car was being serviced at dealership there was never any mention of rust. Researched on internet and found this is a common problem with Nissan Altima model years 2002-2005. Called Nissan consumer affairs 4-13-15 to report the issue and request they repair it since I remembered shortly after purchasing the vehicle, I had received a notice regarding possible corrosion of the rear sub-frame [not same part but still undercarriage related and perhaps manufactured by the same company]. Was advised by 1st representative to take the car to the dealership to have it evaluated. Dealership confirmed the rust and took pictures [I asked for a copies of the pictures but never got them]. Called consumer affairs back [same day] and case was assigned to a representative. Rep called 4-14-15 and told me to get an estimate [the dealership did not perform this type of repair so they could not give an estimate]. Took car to a body shop and got an estimate of approximately $2,000. 00. Received decision from Nissan rep 5-5-15. They would not be repairing due to the age and mileage on the car as well as the environment. According to information I have seen on the internet, it seems to be more of a design flaw and from what I've read a potentially dangerous one at that. Can someone please take a look into Nissan's stance on this issue? it seems quite ridiculous to ask the owner to pay for a repair that the manufacturer probably knew was faulty in the first place [and if they didn't surely they know by now]. Thank you in advance.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

After seeing a report on the news this morning that Nissan Altimas are having systematic issues with rusting under the floorboards, I looked under my 2005 Altima, and can see visible rusting under the floorboards. It has rusted, corroded and is flaking off. If you touch it, it falls apart. It has nearly rusted through. I understand Nissan would like to take the position that this is not a design flaw or a safety hazard with these cars, but that does not make sense. If there are hundreds of these cars with the same problem, how could it just be coincidence? I am about to have a child, and do not feel safe driving a child around in this car. I also understand Nissan issued a technical service bulletin with respect to this issue years ago, so they have been aware of the issue but have done nothing to address it for years.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

My 2005 Nissan Altima was being checked the whole underneath of the car was in real good shaped all except under the passenger floor board it is rusted through and a big hole is there it is going to have to be repaired it is like it was missed being undercoated in that spot. The hole is is probelly 12" x 18" that will have to be repaired.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2015

I was backing into a space in a garage and the car just speed backwards on its own at high speed. The car was totaled. This is the second time this happened where the car seemed to go on its own. Last year it went forward and I could not stop it right away. This happened in the same garage. Luckily it finally stopped and I did not hit another car.

47 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2015

I brought my car to my personal mechanic for an oil change and a yearly inspection. While doing the inspection the mechanic took notice of the severe rusting of the front driver and front passenger floor boards. He said that it passed inspection and that something will have to be done about the rust damage soon before it gets worse and I end up putting my foot through it. I immediately called Nissan and they told me I live in a 4 season state and that it is normal do to salt erosion. I have had a garage kept vehicle and I am constantly cleaning the car during the winter because I know salt eats cars. Here I am 2 months later and I see the out cry of other Nissan Altima owners on the today show. How can they be getting away with this. I plan to get a new car within the next year so in order to sell this one I will have to spend the money to fix it because no used car buyer would want to buy it in this state. Why is Nissan not standing behind their vehicles? I will never buy another Nissan.

48 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the passenger door handle broke off while attempting to open the door. The failure recurred in could weather. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileages was 90,000. Aw.

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2015

The bottom of my driver's side floor panel is rusted through to the ground. Underneath the carpet, just behind the gas pedal and break pedal, the floor metal is completely rusted through. Nothing happened that immediately caused this issue. It seems to be a real problem. It could be very dangerous if my feet were to touch the street while driving and rip my foot off.

50 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2014

The floor boards under the driver and passenger seats have rusted so badly I can put my foot through the hole.

51 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2014

Floor boards are rotted all the way through. They both need replacment it's a safety issue.

52 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

Bought my 2005 Nissan Altima new and regularly serviced at the Nissan dealership in crystal lake, IL. It has 111,000 miles on it, garage kept and in pristine condition. On October 15, 2014 a private party informed me of my rusted floorboards. The dealership in all 9 1/2 years never mentioned this to me. Contacted Nissan corp who put me in touch with regional rep. Photos were taken and estimate obtained but Nissan refuses to fix the problem. I am told a TSB was issued.

53 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2014

The clutch will go to the floor. It will happen whenever it wants to. Then it will go back to normal. It happens when you start it or in the middle of driving. No warning signs. It just happens.

54 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

2005 Nissan Altima with 80,000 miles on it. My father took his car into be inspected and they will not pass it because of the floor boards completely rusted out. After researching this online, there are millions of dissatisfied Nissan owners who are battling this very problem. Now, if my father cannot get his car to pass inspection, he cannot use it. So far, Nissan has not done anything to help with his issue. My father has called countless repair and body shops and no one will repair any rust. Not even the dealership. The customer service rep at the Nissan dealership was nothing more than rude and insensitive but did tell my dad that there have been numerous complaints and repair questions about rusting floor boards. I have seen people call Nissan corporate headquarters with the same "sorry" response. Nissan is looking at a very large class action lawsuit which I will pursue to the fullest because of their lack of respect for their customers and for their craftmanship, lack of concern, lack of solutions. I hope I am joined by anyone else who is battling this problem, leave your complaint here, and hopefully some help will be coming soon!.

55 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2014

Car starts and stalls/engine light on. Was told it is the crank and cam sensor as well as the transmission input speed sensor. We noticed this is a big issue and many cars have been recalled for this issue but not all, including ours. If this is such a major issue why are only some being repaired by dealer. Is there anything we can do to get the dealer to repair it. This is my father's car but it is my information below. He doesn't speak english. Thank you very much.

56 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2014

Trying to leave for work one morning and my car stops at a traffic light. I put my car in park and try to turn it on, and it does but as I start speeding up it turns off again (at the intersection) and now the check engine service light comes on. It almost caused the car behind me to rear end me but he swerved to avoid an accident. I found out it was a faulty crankshaft from the mechanic and told me to call the dealership because he thought there was a recall. L called the dealership and they said there was a recall but not on my car (different year), instead they said they could change the part for $350 with labor. So I could have seriously injured someone or vise versa and it's not their fault? I'm am so upset about how they are not at fault for making parts that don't work and at the end they aren't liable.

57 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2014

I was looking at my car and notice that the floor panels for the passenger and driver are rotted away. After looking at the rest of the car its clear that its not your everyday rust. After doing research online there are hundreds of other people with Nissan Altima's that have the same problems. How is this not a recall by now.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2014

I own a 2005 Nissan Altima 2. 5s with 127,000 miles. I noticed rust particles on my driveway and inspected the bottom of my car and discovered that the floor boards on the driver and passenger sides have completely rotted/rusted out. This should not be happening on a car that has been properly maintained. This is a safety issue because of the possibility of fumes and the instability of the car's floor. Nissan should be held accountable for this defect and should pay for the necessary repairs.

59 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

Just found out the undercarriage of the car is rusted, after researching the issue, I learn that most Nissan Altima owners experience this same safety issue! this is extremely dangerous as the inside floor becomes weak and can cave in from the rust if not repaired. Repair of this issue is costly and I've read that Nissan does not consider this a craftsmanship issue but normal wear and tear. I've never heard of 20th century cars rusting out in this manner, I'm very disappointed in Nissan not backing their product!!.

60 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2014

I have owned my Nissan since 8/2004 purchased it new fron Nissan 104th federal heights, CO. Recently I found out the my passenger floorboard had rusted out. Nissan told me that it was only warranted for 4 years after that it was my problem. I took it to a colllision shop and they said on this year car it never should have happened. I had it repaired for $500. Then I found out that there were other cars for Nissan Altima's from 2004 also that had rusted thru the internet. I would like the money back due to negligence of Nissan. Also this car has always been repaired by Nissan most of the time. What were the mechanics looking at only to spot this issue when the car is 9 years old.

61 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2014

If the interruption in the signal from the crankshaft position sensor is so brief that the electronic control module (ecm) logic does not have time to diagnose the condition, the engine may stop running without warning while the vehicle is driven at a low speed increasing the risk of a crash. I have had this issue 5-7 times where the car wouldn't start or shut off while driving ( decreasing in speed).

62 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2014

I'm adding my 2005 Nissan Altima to the countless others with rusted through floorboards. During a recent oil change, the tech showed me where the floorboard had completely rusted away on the driver side. I counted over 120 complaints for this same problem reported to NHTSA for the 2005 Nissan, but the websphere is full of many more complaints starting with the 2002 model year. Nissan needs to acknowledge this problem and a recall should be issued before someone is injured or killed.

63 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2014

Was informed during routine service (oil change and winter/summer tire swap) that there was extensive rust in front floor panel and that the vehicle would not pass next year's safety inspection unless rusted area was removed and replaced.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

I took my 2005 Nissan Altima into my local mechanic for an oil change and he informed me that my floor boards (on both sides)were so badly rusted out that he could see and feel my carpet from underneath. He also informed me that this was a safety issue and my car would not pass inspection. There is no rust on the body of my car so its disturbing to me that in a 2005 vehicle it can be that badly rusted underneath.

65 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2014

I took my car in for routine matinence (oil change), an hour later I was notified from the mechanic with photos of the undercarrige of my 2005 Nissan Altima ser ((((shocked))). He said the floor pans were completely rusted out. Explaining this further, he said he could put a screwdriver through the rusted area into the carpet on the passenger side and that it was almost to that same point on the driver side. I contacted Nissan and was told my vehicle was over mileage and out of warranty. My mechanic said this car is unsafe to operate and gave me some options to fix my car. . . . . . Unreal and costly!!!! this issue is extreemly scary to think that the floor pans could rust out at any time and cause senseless fatalities. I further investigated and after viewing online complaints was disturbed to se this is a worldwide issue. This issue should be recalled and fixed by Nissan immediately.

66 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2013

Crankshaft position sensor overheated causing brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor engine stoped running causing me to lose control.

67 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

Driver side floor board rioted out about 10+6 area.

68 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

The floor-boards on the 2005 Nissan Altima are clearly defective. This vehicle has been garaged ever since day one, and has been taken care of extensively. Two giant rust holes on the driver and front passenger floor-boards have developed due to poor materials and design. This is a serious safety concern and shouldn't be overlooked. The rust affects the vehicles crash tolerance, and structural integrity. Nissan should be held responsible, and should issue a recall to fix the defective floorboards.

69 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2013

Nhtsa campaign number: 07v527000 summary: on certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 2. 5l engine, the crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor with regard to above recall details, when I provided the VIN to Nissan dealership, they don't see any recalls for it. But it is quite dangerous to drive with this mechanical problem in the car. Appreciate if appropriate safety care is taken by manufacturer.

70 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

Nissan is garage kept with no rust on vehicle. Muffler on since 2006 and floorboards completely rusted through - muffler still good. Contacted Nissan consumer affairs and they would not cover. Paid dealer $1755 to repair since cheaper than new car and will drive until wheels fall off. Since no injuries yet, is this the reason nothing is being done. Seems to be many complaints on Altima from 2003-2006. . Read more...
