1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2023

Hello, I am the owner now of this vehicle snd I see the recalls have not been taken care of? what do I do in order to get them repaired ?.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2022

The cars battery and brake lights came on while driving and then after about 10 mins my gas pedal stopped working and I almost got in a really bad car accident. If I rev the car over 3000 rpms the lights go out. So while I was cruising I had to shift to natural and rev the car and shift back to drive when I needed to go faster. I brought the car to the mechanic got a new alternator and battery. When driving it home after picking it up the same thing happened after about ten mins. When the mechanic got it back he said the alternator was dead it was only putting out 3. 5 volts. He figured maybe he got a defective alternator so he replaced it again with another battery. Same thing happened for the 3rd time. He said he couldn't figure it out and recommend me to bring it to the dealership. So I did and just for them to look at your car is 150 walking in the door. I explained everything to them and told them don't tell me it's my alternator and charge me 150 for information I already know. The guy said he wouldn't and a few days later calls me and tells me it's the alternator and it would cost 1000 $ to replace it. I told him again I already changed it out 3 different times with a new battery. He told me in order for them to find the issue they would have to do the alternator first and then move on from there. So I asked him ok what's gonna be the next step after I pay a 1000s dollars for something that's not going to fix the issue. He said he couldn't tell me till they did the first step. So pretty much what I got out of it was they just want to run my pockets and get as much money as the possibly could. I asked him if he could just do what ever you would do after changing the alternator and he told me nope. Also I believe this should be a recall because when I look up forms online a ton of people have this same issue and can't get answers to fix it.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2020

What is the deal with this engine? this car has less that 120k miles. It seems I get a lot of interference when I'm driving it. The car will randomly force speed causing me to swerve on the highway. When my phone is plugged in it seems to misfire and check engine lights come on. H2o sensors come on, cache files about the fuel system lands on my phone. Samsung has submitted tests on my spen that are affecting my safety. Fcc id a3lejpn970 fcc id a3lsmn970u. I have had several car accidents since buying samsung phones. The cars will increase speed as if I am ready to run into a brick wall. This car doesn't have a lot of mileage but something is going on with the timing and engine. I can be in motion or stationary, it is constantly affecting the fuel system.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2017

2005 Nissan Altima1n4al11d. . . Slow to accelerate after a turn or from a full stop. Slow to accelerate when speedometer goes to zero during drive time. Vehicle speeds up even when brake applied causing jerking motion.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2017

Nissan used parts in the timing chain system which prematurely fail and will not cover the repair after warranty. The issue was not able to be discovered until it had already failed and in this case, is not a repair the owner can perform on their own. Certain mechanics have even chose not to perform this repair and the ones which are able to, charge in the $2000+ range. When contacting Nissan about this issue, they were aware of this problem but had said it would have to have been repaired while under warranty. Once the timing is effected, the engine and drive train seem to have dropped in performance in which I have very sluggish acceleration and cannot ready speeds over 30 mph. There is no way I was able to even check if the timing chain system had signs of going bad, and if there was a recall, this issue could have been avoided for myself and others. This faulty system creates an unsafe, unreliable machine which Nissan should take full responsibility.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2017

Transmission rough shifting between gears. It hesitates while accelerating and then stops or jerks.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2016

Transmission problems. . . At about 100,000 miles, car began jerking while in motion from stop or red light. . Would be fine for a while and then again began jerking. At approximately 100,000 miles, transmission completely not working. . Car is fine when on reverse but will not accelerate beyond first gear when on drive "d". Very expensive to fix a car that other than this is in great condition, car is not operable at this time.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2016

Transmission shift erratic from 1 to second on upshifting and clunks hard from 2 to 1 on slowing down.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

Last year, I noticed my service engine light had appeared. I had the code checked and it was the crank shaft sensor. I had this part replaced and it drove fine for a while. About two months ago, this light came back on and the sensor had gone bad again. This causes my car so drive very sluggish and go dead when driving at a low rate of speed. I did some research and saw where Nissan had a recall campaign for this part on the same year/make/model of my car. I contacted them and they said my car wasn't covered under their recall and they refuse to help me. This is the 2nd time this has gone bad. I think my car should be covered as well. They told me to report this issue to NHTSA.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2015

Takata recall. I bought my car exactly 11 months ago on February 2015. I first noticed when I bought my car that it jerked when putting it in drive and reverse, I talked to the dealership and the salesman convinced me it is nothing. It got worse over time. I finally took the car to a transmission shop who said motor mounts need replacing. I then found a Nissan thread about the defective transmission and automatically was able to see that my car is doing 90% of the issues listed. It now jerks when I put in drive, reverse, when I'm coming to a stop, when I push the break, and when I exceed more then 60 mph it jerks. After reading tons of threads about this problem it seems to be very common amongst the Nissan Altima 05s. I am scared my transmission will go out and I don't know what to do, I was told this problem was nothing but now it definitely seems like an issue that Nissan judged pushed under the rug and kept telling me was nothing.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2015

Went to go start the car, pushed in clutch as norma, started fine, but when I went to go put the car in gear, it wouldnt go. I lifted the clutch and it was stuck on the floor. I had to manually lift it up with my hand. When I started it again it was fine. Then when I am driving it does not go up all the way it drops about 2 inches and stays which grinds the clutch and causes premature wear!.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2014

While driving my 2005 Nissan Altima, it appears to have shifting issues that are known to Nissan. Nissan needs to step up to the plate and stand by their product. Hard shift from 1st to 2nd at initial start up. Also have shifting issues from 3rd to 4th. The shifting from 3/4 is when vehicle is at operating temps. There is a very hard shift and delay in shift. I have called several dealers, and all claim not to have any recalls or bulletins, or deny hearing of any shifting issues. Very poor customer service. Going into 4th from 3rd, vehicle seems to have a delay and stalls, unit revs, and finally kicks into gear.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the vehicle would jerk as it changed gears. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 57,000. Ap.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2012

This recall number, #03v084 describes my situation precisely. My vehicle currently has 97,000 miles on the odometer and I have been experiencing (over the last course of a year) severe oil consumption. Soon after I changed my oil in may of 2013, I began to notice unusual engine noise. I took my vehicle to a mechanic and he discovered that my motor was only running on a quart and a half of oil. The mechanic replenished my oil to its normal level and since then, the motor consumes oil at an abnormally rapid rate. According to the nhtsaâ??s recall #03v084, the catalytic converter disintegrates and the particles of the converter are drawn back into the motor, which causes scaring on the cylinder walls. This problem is the only logical explanation for my vehicle's rapid oil consumption. Itâ??s my intention to approach Nissan of north America about this issue. I would greatly appreciate your support.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2012

While driving in the highway vehicle lost power and engine shut off, was barely able to get to the side of the freeway before the car came to a complete stop. It was the most scary experience I have ever had in my life. The ses light came on only after loosing all control. I was told at the shop that this is a common issue with some Altimas and that they had a recall.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2012

I purchased my 2005 Nissan Altima on October 6, 2012 with the assurance from the dealership that the transmission was good and strong. My wife drove the vehicle home and upon arriving home she said that it was driving rough. Not knowing anything about vehicles, she stated that it drove like someone learning to drive a manual car. She said that it was jerking and shifting hard like it was in the wrong gear(especially upon accelerating between 1st and 2nd gear and when coming to a stop, downshift is really hard. Also coming from reverse to drive, it would idle as if in neutral when pressing the gas then suddenly jump very hard into actual drive). She became to frightened to drive the car. In meanwhile I took the vehicle to a local Nissan dealer(not the Nissan dealership it was purchased from) to have it checked out and it was said that I needed to replace the transmission. I called the Nissan dealership out in gwinnett, georgia where I purchased the vehicle and told them of the problem. They told me to bring it in and have them check it. I took it not knowing if it would even make it. They checked it out and indeed it was the transmission needing to be replaced. The Nissan dealership would not resume any responsibility for fixing my vehicle because I bought it "as is". As I read the cmplaints on this site and about a pending class action suit against Nissan for faulty transmission design in the 2005-2006 Altimas and other Nissan vehicles, it is apparent to me, that they need to do a recall before someone gets into an accident and gets killed. Nissan knows this tranmission is poorly designed and have done nothing but take peoples money in replacing the transmission a $3,000-$4,000 cost. Usually at the customers expense because car is out of warranty. One more thing, there is no warning that anything is wrong with the car, no service engine soon light -nothing. Help!!.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

After 20 min or so of idling in traffic, then a 10 minute freeway drive at legal speeds I was approaching the off ramp and the clutch went to the floor, no hydraulic pressure. I was able to move out of the way of traffic without incident and pull over. After 10 min of talking to my insurance company for a tow, I noticed partial pressure restored and drove slowly home. Now, with research, I have seen this is extremely common and dangerous. Too many complaints have been filed online and with Nissan, yet there is no resolution and what's worse, no specific answer to the problem. I hope NHTSA doesn't wait for a serious injury or death to occur before this is looked into, a google search of Altima clutch recall brings up over a dozen forums with numerous complaints of the same problem.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2012

Rattling noise in engine, unusual engine vibration and muffler sound coming from engine. This can be dangerous this screw is located in the engine and could cause $7500 dallors of damage. If this screw was to come loose it could ruin engine compressor, destroy the exhaust manifold, O2 sensor and power valve plates. I search to see if there was a recall on this and it seem to be or talk of it. Call dealership to see if a recall was issued. Some website suggest there was one, what has happen to qualtiy products. If there was one they are not upholding it. Recall should never expirer, for public safety,.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2012

Clutch loses pressure and sits on the floor. Shifting is minimal and extremely forced to get in to gear. This happened from a stop, getting on a highway. A month later, it is happening again. With two small children, this makes me nervous to drive with them in the car. I have researched and found an unacceptable amount of complaints regarding the same exact problem. Why has this not been a recall issue yet?? I suggest it becomes one, before numerous lawsuits, from accidents, occur. . . . .

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 3. 5se. It's a one-owner, and was brand new when I bought it. This car has been relatively dependable--my issue is this: I noticed a metal "whirring" sound around 50000mi whenever I would pull out from an idle position. I inquired about the noise through a mechanic employed with the dealership I bought the car from--of course, the mechanic said--"those things tend to be a little noisy by nature, on occasion!" so, I continued to drive my "occasionally noisy" Altima for another 58000 miles. Just paid the thing off 2 months before my major issue occurred. I apparently was a fortunate Nissan owner (even though I don't feel like it)--because apparently Altimas and maximas are notorious for timing chain failure. Seems the chain gets a little "used" and begins making the noise I experienced, and then can ultimately completely fail. Needless to say. . . I have a $2,000. 00+ repair on my hands. The mechanic I am hiring said that most Nissans with timing chain issues fail long before mine did (mileage-wise!). My problem is with Nissan, because Nissan is aware of these timing chain failures, and does nothing about them. My car should have been on a recall thousands of miles ago, but wasn't. . . Because Nissan has been allowed to overlook some very important mechanical issues. I need a timing chain, or my car is of no use whatsoever to me. The replacement part for my timing chain is not the original part that was put on my car from the factory! imagine that! Nissan knows that they put "bum" parts on our Altimas and maximas when they were built in their factories! --- I say Nissan should be forced to replace every single timing chain that they put on our american-bought Nissan cars--at no cost to the consumers. They should be forced to recall.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the vehicle violently jerks while accelerating and decelerating. The failure occurred at all speeds. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the motor mounts were replaced; however, the failure continued. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was unavailable.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Altima. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle shut off entirely. There were no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road and restart the vehicle. The dealer stated that the crankshaft position sensor failed. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling), although the failures were identical. The failure and current mileages were less than 61,000.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Altima. While driving between 65-70 mph, the contact attempted to downshift the vehicle upon approaching a toll both. The clutch extended to the floorboard and the gear could not be shifted. The clutch eventually returned to its normal position. The dealer would not assist. The failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 95,000.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2008

Motor mount failure. This is a continuing problem starting at 20000 miles. There are numerous internet and blogs with other Nissan owners experiencing the same problem causing hundreds of dollars in repairs and other safety problems like exhaust manifold cracks leaking into the environment.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2007

2005 Nissan Altima with deceleration problems. Consumer states that the vehicle will decelerate from what ever speed to about 20 mph. He states that the dealer keeps saying bring it in while the vehicle is having the problem. The consumer stated the throttle chamber was replaced and the fuel injection serviced, however later in the month, the problem re-surfaced again. The vehicle always seemed to return to normal operation after the vehicle was turned off and turned back on again. The problem happened again on December 7th and 15th.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2006

When driving my vehicle the clutch drops down to the floor making it very difficult if possible to put it in a gear. It gets to a point where you can not put the car in 1st gear at all. This problem has been going on since I have owned the car. I have tried to get with Nissan to repair the defective vehicle and all they say is that they can not get the problem to repeat for them. It usually corrects itself from around one hour turned off to a few days before the clutch would get back to the normal position. This has put me and my family in a vulnerable situation where I had almost veered off the road and straight into a gas station. This really needs to be addressed by the manufacture and take the responsibility for there defective engineering. Its all over the internet where Nissan Altima owners have the same serious issues with the infamous clutch dropping down to the floor where you can not drive the vehicle at all!.
