While driving down the road entering highway I went to shift my 06 Altima 5 speed into 5th gear when I pressed the clutch pedal there was no pressure and transmission would not go into 5th gear. I let up on the pedal and in a few seconds the pedal had pressure again. Enter highway and drove for about 25 miles and exited highway. The same thing happened again no pressure in the pedal then pressure. I was able to return home but the problem is still happening. I have read some forums on this issue and it seams that many people are having the same problem. Some people say they replaced the master cylinder and slave cylinder and this did not fix the problem. Other people recommend using a dot 5 brake fluid with a higher boiling point. Not sure what direction to head in. As a life long mechanic for dealerships it appears to me that the fluid is boiling out and causing air pockets in the hydraulic system, then bleeding it self out. It was only 77 degrees this day so extreme temps are not always the problem. . . .
I own a 2006 Nissan Altima ser. I have had the motor replaced and the entire clutch kit and slave cylinder replaced. After having the clutch parts replaced the pedal stuck to the floor a small handful of times. Now, it is nearly a daily occurrence and it is consistently lasting longer and longer each time. It still allows for sporadic shifting in non specific gears while the pedal is on the floor. I can pick up the pedal with my foot and put it back in place but when it apply any pressure it falls back to the floor and stays there until I pick it back up with my foot. This issue has nearly caused to be in several accidents, all of which I narrowly avoided by quickly maneuvering my vehicle off the road.
This is the second time within a year and a half that my clutch system has went completely out while driving. While driving I could not get the clutch pedal to engage the clutch. It was becoming increasingly more difficult to get the clutch to shift into gear even with the pedal pushed all the way to the floor. This is the very same situation that happened the first time the clutch system went out at about 60,000 miles. The mechanic contacted Nissan and they said they knew that there was an known issue with the Nissan Altima ser 2006 and its clutch system. The standard dot 3 fluid that is used was becoming to hot and breaking down its compressibility not allowing the clutch to shift. This time around when the mechanic called Nissan yet again, Nissan said that there is an issue with the clutch systems used in the Altima ser 2006 and that they have been replacing a lot and seeing that they are only getting between 35,000 - 40,000 miles when the life span of the clutches should be longer!!! this is not a cheap fix and is becoming increasingly annoying. This is an unsafe car for anyone to have and luckily neither incidents caused any accidents. Nissan knows there is an issue with this model of car but yet nothing is being recalled on these clutch systems!!!!.
Attempted to shift and clutch pedal sank to floor and would not return, clutch did not disengage. Made it very difficult to get car out of gear, and impossible to reengage gear. Luckily was able to coast to a stop without accident. Dealer reported failed clutch line / master cylinder led to loss of fluid & inability to disengage clutch.
After completing acceleration after a period of sitting in traffic, the clutch pedal fell to the floor without the aid of the driver. The clutch pedal lost all resistance and the driver was unable to get the vehicle out of gear and into nuetral or another gear. Driver had to manuver the vehicle off of the freeway and onto the shoulder and coast for several hunded yards with the vehicle stuck in gear for the clutch pedal to regain pressure so that the vehicle could be placed into nuetral. Since the initial incident, which ocurred only weeks after the vehicle was purchased from a Nissan dealer, the sunken clutch pedal has become a regular ocurrence, nearly daily.
On my 2006 Nissan Altima with the manual transmission, it has a tendency to just lose pressure on the clutch pedal as I am driving making it hard or sometimes very near impossible to shift in and out of gears. . . . . . . Has happened to me on busy roads causing a very scary situation.
For no apparent reason the clutch pedal will lose all resistance and lay on the floor leaving the vehicle inoperable and stranded on the side of the road. This issue has happened multiple times, as early as 44k miles and as recent as last Thursday, March 24, 2011 with 68k miles. Pumping the clutch pedal for an extended period of time did restore enough hydraulic pressure to operate the clutch and within 2 miles of "in town" driving the clutch problem completely resolved as if it never happened. There are multiple complaints of this issue on the forums. Fort pierce Nissan official answer was " nothing". They wouldn't acknowledge it. I'm sure with all the complaints from Altima se-r owners Nissan is fully aware of the issue, yet they won't step up to the plate and make it right for their customers. I've been a loyal Nissan customer since 1988 but without proper resolution, this will end that streak.
My 2006 Nissan Altima (6,500 miles) was purchased new from the dealer. During the past mont I have been experiencing a problem with my clutch pedal going all the way to the floor when pressed and not returning. I checked on line and identified that apparently with the 6 cyl. Engine and standard transmission this is a common problem with the break down of the dot 3 brake fluid that is used in the clutch master cylinder. Many sites recommend the higher boiling temperature of the dot 4 or 5. 1. The dealership insists that dot 3 is sufficient however in talking to other Altima owners on line it is a recurring problem.
Clutch stuck on floor, did not return to up position. Very difficult to shift gears - clutch engaged about 1/2" from floor. Occurred after sitting in traffic for approximately 30 minutes. Stopped vehicle and clutch was fine after engine was turned off for 15 minutes.
Don't know of any events but I have a 2006 Nissan Altima se-r 6-spd and the clutch pedal has this problem where it sinks to the floor and I have no play what so ever to switch gears or even get out of neutral. I have been on many forums where this seems to be a major problem with alot of 6 spd transmissions for the Altimas. I have had the car since Jan 2007 and have had this problem a few times. Once, the car just didn't start at all cause I had to pressure in the clutch and had to be towed and the Nissan dealership in austin replaced both the slave and master cylinder and said that would fix it but I still get the same problem. My father and a couple of my friends who drove the car have has the same problem. Just want to have the car fixed so I don't have to worry about this anymore and want to know what to do next.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Altima ser. The clutch has been repaired on 3 occasions since he purchased the vehicle in August 2006. The clutch pedal stuck to the floor, making a loud noise in the engine ,and the pedal has to be lifted up while driving with his foot. On some occasions the pedal would release in the half way position which mad eit difficult to shift gears. The vehicle was forced into gear when trying to put the vehicle in reverse, the gear was difficult to engage. The driver will contact the manufacturer to inquire about the lemon law. The most recent repair on the clutch was on 01/15/07. The mechanic replaced the clutch assembly with the flywheel, and all of the hydraulic and hose systems. Since the repairs the clutch made a loud noise and grinding sound. The current mileage was 7,500. The failure mileage was 2,500.
Power train clutch assembly/ pedal/ linkage I recently bought a brand new 2006 Nissan Altima ser in 6 speed manual transmission. After owning the car for only 3 months, I lost total acceleration response. Driving the car from a dead stop to 60 mph took nearly a mile, I was so afraid the car wouldn't make it over a bridge. Driving the car to the dealer service department was a nightmare, I was so scared while accelerated that anyone doing the speed limit would crash into the back of my car. The dealer took 2-3 days just to inform me my clutch went bad. They said I needed to replace the clutch for $1000 and the flywheel for $500 both not under warranty. Mind you the $30,000. 00 dollar car is only 3-4 months old with a 10 year/100k warranty. I have heard many other people with the same preambles, I feel Nissan needs to order a recall on Nissan clutches.
