Not a single event. . . Dashboard has progressively gotten softer/stickier over the past few years. It is now cracked and is melting next to the windshield. It has off-gassed an unremovable film on the bottom half of the glass, and the car has such a noxious smell from the fumes we no longer feel it's healthy to drive without the windows down.

While driving home after work my sunroof on my 2008 Nissan Altima exploded it was not hot or cold temp was approximately 75 degrees no other vehicles were around me at the time . Speed was 50 mph on a city street I never use the sunroof it's always on the close position no prior cracks or scrapes on the sunroof date of incident 2/02/2018 . I did report incident to Nissan as of 2/9/2018 no response.
Currently, I live in florida and am an owner of 2008 Nissan Altima. This car is usually in the garage and rarely is impacted by the sun. I have noticed in the last week 3 cracks appearing on the dashboard of the vehicle. I called Nissan and they stated to me that there was nothing that they could do because I was out of warranty. I then looked on line and noticed that there was a lawsuit for this same problem with Altima's in the years of 2008 and 2009. Nissan know s that there dashboards were made with a defective material that was not able to withstand the humidity of florida. The lawsuit had come and past. I was 6 months from the deadline of April 29th 2017. The issue though with this dashboard is a visability while driving. The dashboard is melting and shines from the glare of the sun which impedes driving.

Dash pad, which also covers the passenger air bag is now cracked, and is sticky. I know that Nissan settled with florida residents for this problem, however, other cars are affected. In southeast texas, we have just as much, if not more heat that seems to be causing failure of the dash cover. We are now afraid to drive the car, as since it is cracked and sticky, we do not know if we will be properly protected with the air bag should we have a problem. This is a serious safety issue, not just cosmetic, and all cars should be included, not just florida. Please review this issue, and get all of us covered.

Nissan denies there's any problem, won't do anything to help to fix the problem. Costs about $2000 to replace the dash. Happening mostly with 2008 & 2009 model years.
The dashboard on this car is melting and crumbling apart. In early 2012 it started getting shiny at the edges on the vents openings next to the windshield. It has developed into a sticky, semi-liquid, very shiny, soft rubber like substance that sticks to anything put on top of it and comes off as a black residue when separated. The dashboard also developed fine fracture lines that have since created deep ridges all along the part, its crumbling, and pieces of the black outer material are just falling apart, revealing a foam material beneath. The cracking, crumbling effect covers the whole dashboard, not just the section that is exposed to sunlight. The shiny sections of the dashboard reflect sunlight into the windshield, creating a blinding pattern in the windshield that prevents good visibility. In sunny days it is really prominent and blinding, which is a constant in south florida. This is a serious safety hazard and could provoke an accident due to poor visibility. This problem started showing in early 2012 and has evolved since into a crumbling, melting, sticky, shiny dashboard. In hot days when the car is parked it smells like molten plastic. The chemical fumes from this decaying material can't be good to human health, these are most probably toxic.
Daily driven 2008 Nissan Altima in south florida. Vehicle dash has melted causing the dash to be sticky and reflecting a massive glare on windshield making it very difficult to drive. Entire dash has started to crack and pieces falling off due to poor quality of dash. Defogger for windshield has been affected do to the structure of the dash changing and becoming stick. Extremely dangerous when driving and do not see any current recalls for the car or dash.

The dashboard is melting, cracking and crumbling. The melting has created a sheen that reflects on the windshield causing visibility to be severely impaired. The dash is very sticky to the touch. Further, the melting is causing a toxic chemical odor and what appears to be possible fume deposits on the inside of the front windshield. These are both clearly safety hazards that need to be immediately addressed by Nissan. The exterior paint is failing as well. It is fading, peeling and the clear coat has degraded on much of the vehicle resulting in continued degradation.
08 Nissan Altima coupe that I purchased new in south florida February 08 that I've owned since has a melted, sticky, and cracked dashboard. Also, the dash is changing colors. The defective and melted dashboard makes it dangerous to drive because the sun reflects on the dashboard making it very hard to see out of the windshield. As referenced in the class action lawsuit tracy sanborn v. Nissan north America, inc. My car should be covered. I spoke with a rep at 1-800-Nissan-1 and they claimed to have no idea this existing. I have opened my case and will hopefully get it fixed soon.
I notice my dashboard is cracking and soft and sticky. I see a lot of complaints about the same issue from other owners and feel this may be unsafe especially when if the airbags deploy. I am sure tests were done when the dashboard is fine but was airbags testing done with sticky, soft, cracking dashboards, probably not.

The dashboard on my 2008 Nissan Altima coupe is melting. It has turned into a sticky and gooey substance. When I touch the dashboard my fingers stick and turn black. Every time I get into my car I worry the melting dashboard will be a safety issue. The dashboard reflects the sun from the windshield and it causes a reflection, so it sometimes becomes hard to see while driving. In addition to the dashboard melting, it is also beginning to crack. The issue was filed with Nissan but they refused to fix or replace the dashboard.
My dashboard is peeling and cracking which is causing vision problems while I am driving due to the glaring sun. My dealer is new city Nissan in honolulu, hi I have called them and also called Nissan consumer affairs and none of them helped me. My local dealer ignored me for the longest time until they finally said sorry we cant help you, you are out of warranty and for a replacement dash it will cost $2,304. 00. I feel like this isn't right and its a safety issue. I have 2 other Nissans that are older cars parked outside and there dashboards are not melted. Nissan does not want to help or admit this is a defective product.
The dashboard on my car is sticky and gooey and reflects sunlight glare that makes it almost impossible to see through when sunny. I am short and have to sit and stop between the glare where there is a small area that doesnt obstruct my vision. I also have cracks around steering wheel and stereo areas and have chunk of the dashboard now revealing the foam underneath. The rest of the car is in mint condition other than the dash. I reported to Nissan and they told me to get estimate to get fixed. I still have received no response on what they are doing but the estimate came in at over 2500 and I cant afford to shell out that kind of money. The problem is getting worse and spreading quickly. I just paid off the car in February this year and it began to show signs of glare at that time. The sticky started around November or and I thought it was our fault until I saw a story about the melting dashboards on our local news and the pictures were exactly as my car showed. I am most concerned with the glare as I feel it is a definite safety hazard and it is getting worse. After about 5 years of owning my car (Nissan Altima coupe 08), I began to notice a sticky substance on my dashboard. After a little while I realized that it was actually melting. The melting spread to cover about 80% of the dashboard. As time passed, the stickiness has caused me to not be able to drive during mid-day hours because of the glare coming off the dashboard and hitting the windshield. Even with high end polarized sunglasses, I am scared of driving because there's too many things I can't really see on the road. Recently, in addition to the sticky melting dash it has began to crack along the edges. The side and back windows have been tinted since the day I bought the car in 07 and I used to use a sunshield for the front until the melting began becoming too messy to keep using.

Now the areas that are continuing to melt have become shiny and when the sun hits it at the right angle (early morning, and sunset) it causes a distracting glare to be cast on the windshield. My wife has a 2008 Nissan Altima she bought 5 years ago. I have noticed over the years the dash seems to be meting. I have tried cleaning it with a damp rag. This only makes the dash gummy and sticky. Even after I allow it to dry for a bit it remains sticky and dirty. She bought it 5 years ago for just under $19,000. I told her if we ever wanted to sell it we would lose big time. The car has every amenity; leather, moonroof, heated seats, bose sound, et cetera. It's very demoralizing actually. Also, part of the steering wheel is sticky and falling apart. The leather part on the steering wheel is fine. One more thing. . . I have a 2006 Nissan Altima and my dash is solid with no problems. We both have always lived in mississippi. It gets hot and humid here but never had a problem like this with my 2006 Nissan dash or any other vehicle I have owned. I am 40 years old and have owned plenty. Example: a month ago I sold my 1994 Ford truck that has been sitting in the sun for 3 years. Dash had a few cracks which is normal but didn't melt. *2008 Nissan Altima is used everyday and properly maintained seems strange to me daniel.
My dashboard starting melting about 3 years ago. I left a message on Nissans facebook page and they told me to take it to a Nissan dealership to get it diagnosed. I did that and they diagnosed it as a melting dashboard. I sent all the paperwork back to them and they answered me by saying the extended warranty was expired so they couldn't do anything about it. It is very sticky and is leaving a glare on the windshield and making it hard to see. It it also cracking in various places. Nissan should not sell a car that cannot stand the south florida sun! I would like Nissan to take charge and replace my dashboard free of charge because this is a manufacturing mistake not caused by me!.

From reading, the materials used to manufacture the dashboard were not made for extreme heat and weather conditions, thus causing glare and visibility issues as well as funes from melting plastics. This problem was also evident amongst consumers living in florida and Nissan has agreed to repair their damaged vehicles as part of a class action lawsuit.

I would really like for Nissan to replace it all with we parts!!!! it is hard to drive with the sun comimg in the widow hitting the dash. Please fix this for everyone. Also my car is always outside.
