1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2023

While pulling into a parking spot and coming to a halt, I put the car into park mode. My foot was still on the brake. Instantly the engine went into "overdrive" and lurched forward over a parking curb and through heavy brush and finally came to a stop after hitting a pine tree. The engine was still screaming and the tires still spinning until I hit the off button. I had my foot on the brake the entire time to no avail. The heavy brush slowed the car somewhat. The airbags didn't deploy. I had several witnesses and they all stated they saw my brake lights on. I plowed approx. 50 feet through the brush before hitting the tree. I was the only one involved and was not hurt. This was thurs. Sept. 28, 2023. It was in a state park and no police report made. Park ranger took down info.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2021

I have had my cars rear brakes completely replaced once in the last 6 months and completely replaced the front brake system twice in 6 months. I’ve had to pay close to $4000 in repairs on only the cars front end so at this point any part that could be causing the excessive wearing out of my brakes could not possibly be doing so without me knowing about it from many inspections (mainly done by different les schwab locations and my local Nissan dealership in salem, or). For some reason within a month of having the brakes replaced, they have began to squeal worse than ever before, I’m not exaggerating when I say that my 2008 Altima has brakes that are almost twice as loud as any city or school bus brakes that I’ve ever heard in my life. Something within the brake system is causing all these brand new parts to wear down to metal on metal screeeching.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2021

Brake switch or stop light switch goes out which causes brakes to become very stiff and not light up the brakes which causes car’s push start to not start car more than 5 times a week. I will always have to stomp the brake petal to activate the brakes to start the car.

Failure Date: 01/13/2020

Brakes locked and steering locked causing a rear end accident driving on a city highway going to work.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2019

While driving on i95 the car shut off and was steered very difficultly to the off ramp and the side of the road. Smoke started to come out of the front of the car and I exited the car and the car proceeded to be engulfed in flames burning the front half of the car to the front seats. Fire rescue arrived to put out the fire. 1116.

Failure Date: 03/23/2016

I was driving home from work, and suddenly the abs vdc and slip illuminated. Then I almost got rear ended. That guy told me that my braking light is not working. Luckily I was inside military base and people were alert. It happened on the street while I was driving.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2015

Vehicle, is making a rubberish noise in the brake booster when the brake pedal is pushed down, brakes in the vehicle are relatively new and when required to a hard brake vehicle does not respond well. I had to refill the brake fluid reservoir with a little bit of fluid not much. I believe it might be leacking small amounts of fluid to the booster over time, I bought the vehicle from someone else known to me, so I have known the car for quite some time and its being having this issue for a while now. I have seen many threads about this problem, which must be solved with Nissan. This should not be a problem at 53 000 miles.

10 Service Brakes problem

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2014

Car will not start even though there is power. This is the fifth time this has happened. Dealer has replaced battery. Problem occurred 1 month later. Brake switch appears to be the problem. Have been able to start after "playing" with the brake switch. Dealer replaced switch but the car wont start again 5 weeks later.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2014

Was driving to work on the highway using cruise control and then I tried to get out of cruise and step on the gas peddle but it got stuck, I realized I wasn't able to get over to the first lane due to traffic, so I tried to slow down to pull over to the median closest to the third lane, however, the brakes stopped working and I wasn't able to stop the vehicle, I even tried to press the button to shut the car off but it wouldn' shut down, there was no smell of smoke or anything and than as the car begin slowing on its own, all of a sudden smoke just poofed up and I grabbed my purse and phone and jumped out of the moving car . Ran away from the car and realize that I had taken my wallet out of my purse previous and I turned to go back but the car was engulfed in flames. I called 911 to get assistance.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

I pulled in a parking space, foot on the brake, and before I could put it in park the car accellerated and took off. The brakes would not stop the car. I went about twenty feet, over curbs, sidewalk, another parking space, avoiding cars, skid marks made, and finally directed the car toward a dumpster and it stopped. It is a miracle that someone in my path wasn't killed. The engine was pushed back and so the body shop connected with Nissan considered it a total loss.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2013

On several occasions I have tried to start the car but the brake resists being pressed in. I press the push to start button but the car does not start, only the dashboard lights and radio come on (as though I am not pushing the break in). I took my car to the dealership and they said I needed to replace my brake switch and harness for the low, low price of $500. The problem is intermittent so they cannot guarantee that it will fix the problem. This needs to be addressed by Nissan immediately, as I see all over the web that everyone with a 2007 or 2008 Altima is having this problem. What are recalls for except for precisely this type of issue??.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

Ramsey Nissan service department replaced my worn rotors with "warped" rotors. . . I need replacement of both front and rear brakes and rotors, according to ramsey Nissan service department. The service department installed, allegedly, original equipment manufactured brakes and rotors to replace my worn parts. The day I picked my car back up from the service department, I drove out of the dealership parking lot onto the highway - it only took the first brake, literally, going at around 40-50 mph to notice that my car was shaking. Confused, I immediately called Nissan service to let them know what I was experiencing. They assured me that this was the normal "break in" period for the brakes and that I would likely experience this for the next 500-1000 miles; keep in mind that I had no reason to not believe them as I was confident they had at least tested the brakes/rotors before giving the car back to me. Approximately 5-6 weeks later, I was still experiencing this issue; Nissan service later confirmed that my front rotors were "warped". Nissan service had ultimately installed inadequate and faulty rotors in my car. According to a individual auto mechanic who runs inspections, my car would immediately fail inspection. Clearly, with these faulty rotors, my braking ability was severely diminished; in an emergency situation, the last thing I would want to be unsure of is my brakes/rotors, which should be working 100 out of 100 times in extreme situations. These were rotors would cause my car to fail inspection and thus put in danger the lives of me, my family, and the people around me. Had I known that these were faulty rotors, I immediately would have had them replaced. But I drove around for over a month with a braking system that would fail inspection.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2012

To whom it may concern, I wrote this letter to consumer affairs and to the ceo of Nissan: dear [xxx], my name is [xxx]and I am a current owner of a 2008 Nissan Altima. For the past three weeks, I have been dealing with Nissan's west coast regional office in regards to issues I have been experiencing with my car. I have been treated very poorly and I am astonished and disgraced by both one of your Nissan dealerships here in los angeles and by your corporate representatives. As a leader myself for one of the most valuable company's in the world, I have found myself at a loss for words. [xxx], a man who has been empowered to make decisions for Nissan, stated by brett locher, his supervisor, has decided that Nissan should not fix the issue that I have been experiencing since the first day I leased the car. I was lied to by the sales representative that my vehicle had temporary battery issues. Later on in the year, I experienced similar issues. I was advised by your dealership in glendale, CA to pay for a new battery exchange. After purchasing the vehicle, I experienced the same issues until recently when my car became inactive to the the start/stop ignition switch not responding with the brake harness. Although I advised your representatives that I have been experiencing this problem way before my vehicle was out of warranty, they continued to explain to me that they would not be able to fix the car without charge because now its out of warranty. The car has around 29,000 miles and has never needed service. I am disappointed from an ethical standpoint and I would like to have my car fixed. It's time for Nissan to stop serving crackers and cheese and begin to serve caviar for customer retention. [xxx] class action lawsuit is needed! many people are experiencing these problems all over the net. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that as she attempted to use the push button ignition start and applied the brakes, the brakes seized abnormally and the vehicle did not start. The contact played around with several wires above the brake pedal to get the vehicle to start however, the failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and provided no assistance. The failure and current mileages were 80,000.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2012

Pressed on the brake while pushing start button to start car. Car couldn't recognize pressure on brake and wouldn't start. This happened on 20+ occasions. After a period of 10-30 minutes each time, car would eventually start.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2012

The push start engine ignition depends upon pressing the brake pedal to start the vehicle. The engine would not start because the brake pedal could not be pressed completely in order for the push start to operate correctly. This has since occurred multiple times. We must push the brake pedal a number of times in order for the vehicle to start. According to the auto dealer they are not aware of any problem but upon search of the internet I have found many cases of similar problem. Nissan dealer offers to replace the brake part at a fee. Request that Nissan take responsibility for faulty brake button that appears to be causing this problem on many Nissan Altima vehicles.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2012

When I press on the brake to start the engine, it will not start and the light on the dash comes and says press the brake to start. The switch does not recognize that I am pressing the brake. This is an intermittent problem that may happen everyday for a week and then may not happen again for 3 weeks. If you press the brake in and press the buttons under the brake pedal, it helps to recognize the pedal is pressed. I have checked several on line forums where many car owners have posted the same exact problem with Altimas of similar year models 2007 to 2010.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2011

This was a one vehicle crash (total loss) that occurred when the brakes would not work causing our car to strike a brick wall (also emergency brakes did not work). None of the vehicle airbags deployed except for the drivers steering wheel airbag which deployed once the vehicle came to a stop. The accident occurred at approx. 11:45 pm, 22 October 2011. No drugs and or alcohol were involved. The car was recently purchased from a Lexus dealer and the same company owns a Nissan dealership which confirmed that all Nissan recall items were complied with. We have several professional photographs to prove that there is still something going on with the Nissan Altima 2. 5 brakes and air bags to allow something like this to happen. I have personally tallked with mr. Bruce york about this and left a voice mail with greg magno at their NHTSA office. My insurance company confirmed that this car was a total loss and the vehicle has been now been removed from the towing and collision facility here in indiana and sold to a parts salvage company. I was trying to have someone inspect this car before it was destroyed, but it appears that it is now to late to do anything about this.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2011

Master cyclinder was leaking. Parking break light would stay on, but sometimes go off. Very similar to pe11020. I have dealer service records detailing the leak and the repair.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

We have had to replace the brakes three time within the past 9 months.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2010

Losing brake fluid causing warning light to flash.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2009

Brakes were making a noise for a 2nd time; already replaced once when I told abc Nissan phoenix, az (where purchased) that at speed less then 25 mph my brakes were making a noise. The other day went to brake at 14 mph in very heavy traffic on the freeway during rush hour and brakes locked up and had to use the emergency brake to avoid a collision (mind you I was one car length behind the car in front of me). I am afraid to drive my Nissan Altima now!! this is ridiculous.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2009

I have just purchased a used 2008 Nissan Altima sedan. The brakes are very squeaky. The brakes squeak when you press on them lightly going around 10 mph or less.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2009

I have a 2008 Nissan Altima coupe with 30k miles and the brakes are squeaking nonstop. I took the pad off on all 4 sides and there is plenty of pad left. I sanded the syface of the pad, cleaned the brake assembly and still they squeak non stop. The only time they will not squeak is if I brake super hard.

28 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2008

Drivers seat squirms moves and is not rigid. Dealership says they can not replicate the problem. Every time I turn the seat makes noise and sounds squirms like its not properly secure. The passenger airbag light also comes on when a fully grown adult is sitting in it. This happens randomly on an average of 4-5 times monthly. When the airbag light comes on the passenger airbag is deactivated not protecting the individual. There is also an issue with the brakes when pressed sometimes the brakes in the front do not grab properly and they grind badly causing the car not to stop as well . The dealership says can not replicate but stated they are aware of these problems and that Nissan may issue a recall. For the time being the car is unsafe and nothing is being done about it.

29 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2008

Vehicle rides unstable. Sharp turns causes car to become unstable, loses controls of turn. Tires or rims unbalanced. Have vehicle seem many times and the problem can not be corrected. Neither representative would confirm problem. Told by american tires sale associate, Nissan will not reimburse them for correcting the problems. They rebalanced the tires, but this did not correct the problem. Advise right front tire problem, but they would not give a write up on the problem. My vehicle has had too many recalls. Hanlees richmond hilltop Nissan should have known about the many recalls, prior to selling this vehicle. March 26, 2009 had car in for servicing, driver seat broken, brake hardware damaged - brakes replaced. Mileage at time of servicing 12,800. I had complained about these problems from day one. I spoke with the finance associate about replacing the car, but he refused. . I have noted from servicing order on March 26, 2009 - heat shield problem - high rpm on initial startup. Antioch service advisor did not address this matter, because Nissan has not issued a correction order on this as of today. This is a brand new car that has many problems from the first day of purchase! I have tried so many times to get help from the service center as well as Nissan consumer services. Not help!!!.
