1 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2021

My son was driving this vehicle and made a turn on the highway when the rear passenger side control arm broke in half. The car was all over the road and he was able to make a stop on the side. Luckily, he did not pass a oncoming vehicle at the same time. We had the vehicle towed to edmunds Nissan in council bluffs, IA. The service technician said that I need a new control arm and that the cost was approximately $1200. I did some research and saw some posts that this is a known problem with this vehicle from 2013 to 2018 models. I called Nissan consumer advocacy and the rep stated that no recall has been ordered. This is very frustrating that a problem has been made aware and that a manufacturer will not go to the next steps to fix it. This could have been a very serious if not deadly accident if my son would not have gotten the car under control. Nissan did assign a case number 43804399.

2 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2021

Rear control arms both have broken. There is a service campaign bulleting for the same year and model, however the specific VIN does not apply according to Nissan. A known issue with this model and Nissan will not fix the vehicle under the campaign.

3 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Rear, lower control arm that connects rear wheel to vehicle broke while driving, nearly causing a crash. And Nissan is refusing to cover the expense of the repair even though they are well aware of the issue! (see Nissan's service bulletin p9324). Nissan need's to be help accountable for this defective part. Complete loss of control of the vehicle is very likely, especially at high speeds.

I had no control of the steering of my car, the back end was sliding and the stirring wheel was turned all the way to the right but the front part of the car was not turning. I could not pull over due to being on a bridge and no control of the steering. I did let off the gas and cost downhill the best I could, luckily the car drifted to the side of the road. I was frozen with fear, the state police came and we call a tow truck. When my car was on the bed of the truck the driver pointed to the back of the car said " wow it snaped". He then explained to me the rear control arm was broken. Later the mechanic told me this should not have happened. As of 1/20/2021,xd the car is being worked on and I have not heard any update to what has happend asside from the snapped rear control arm.

The vehicle was taken to woodhouse Nissan (7801 nebraska dr, bellevue, ne 68005) where she was informed that the vehicle was safe and that the turbulence was probably from ice on the road. Two days later her daughter was driving 30 mph, she heard an abnormal popping sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle started to lose control of the steering wheel. Her daughter drove the vehicle to her sister's house and upon inspection, she discovered that the driver's side rear tire was turned inwards to the body of the vehicle. The contact's daughter had a friend inspect the vehicle who discovered major corrosion on the driver's side rear control arm. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer who then diagnosed the vehicle with a defective rear control arm and eccentric bolts that needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

I heard a bang sound and all my trac control lights came on my dashboard and I list steering in the rear. Pulled over and found the rear control arm or a frame is totally rusted and broke in half where it looks like it was welded by the manufacturer. This is not safe at all. Being a beginner driver especially, I see all complaints of this problem. Why is Nissan not helping?.

16 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2020

My rearward control arm broke on a busy street while I was driving to work. I was unable to control the vehicle steering at 30mph afterwards. I was lucky that a mechanic shop was at the very next corner. The mechanic looked underneath the car and said "unbelievable, you're lucky to be. . . . We're glad you wasn't on the highway!) then he just shook his head, in disbelief at the rust, because the control arm and the linkage was held together by rust. He further added this car 7 years young with 72,000 miles, that shouldn't have happened. Lastly, that was a very scary situation, not having control of your vehicle when you are faced with semi trucks in front and behind you and you're not able to pullover your vehicle to safety. It was a bad experience, that hopefully, no one else have to encounter.

17 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2020

The lower control arm corroded from road salt. The control armed snapped from the bushing while I was driving!!. The control arm completely snapped from the bushing. There is a service campaign for this, but Nissan claims my VIN does not fall unto this known problem. My vehicle is in nh, and has been in this state that uses road salt since day one. I have no idea why my vehicle does is not covered under the service campaign. I am in one of the 22 states that is designated as a salt state and is mentioned in the service campaign bulletin. This is a real safety concern. I was driving approximately 40 mph when the control arm snapped. My vehicle spun 180 degrees. If this happened on the highway at a higher rate of speed, things would have been worse.

18 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2020

Nissan in new port richey FL suggested the repair. . . Over $1000.

Today after having by car back the drivers side rear control arm snapped this time while driving on a road in town at 25 miles an hour. 33 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2019

After a turn onto a main road in the town of henrietta NY the stability warning light started flashing and the steering wheel suddenly had to be 20 degrees to the right to go straight. After getting of the road in a safe parking lot I noticed the left rear wheel tipped toward the right and tipped in about 15 degrees at the top riding very high in the wheel well. Looking under the car I could see some piece of the left rear suspension metal hanging down. The car was not safe to drive and thank goodness I wasn't on the expressway at 65 mph! the Nissan dealer advised because of age and mileage [about 90,000] this would not be a "covered" repair even though I was aware of a Nissan voluntary service campaign [not a recall] to have the owners of some 212,000 2013 Nissan Altima's bring their cars in for rear lower control arm [spring buckets] replacment at no charge. It was found that in the 22 states that use road salt these parts were developing cracks due to rust and cracking. I wash my car frequently in the winter including undercarriage so I believe this is an inherent design/engineering defect. In 2018 Nissan redesigned this part to mitigate this issue.

34 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2019

I was driving straight on the highway at approximately 65 mph when the car started moving from side to side and was difficult to control. My whole rear was rusted out and my tire was detected from the bar under the car! it was just hanging (the left rear tire) in the air. My husband took a picture sent to a mechanic friend. He said that the lower control arm is detected!! when I call a dealer ship near by he had a car at his shop with the exact same problem with there Nissan Altima too!! she was trying to call Nissan about the problem. They told him they will call him back. I've seen alot of complaints about this very same issue as I begin to research. My so and I could have been injured or could have died if we were going faster. I call Nissan about it and they seen to unconcerned. I told them I should not have to pay for a on going problem that hundreds of people has complaints about and it's a safety issue! I have towel my car there and pay to get it fix but I should be reimbursed for my cost. This is a dangerous problem that need to be recalled.
