3 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2021

The drivers side rear lower control arm separated from the rear subframe while driving the vehicle at ~50 mph. The failure at ~50mph could easily result in loss of control of the vehicle since the rear wheel is no longer fully connected to the vehicle. The stress of one control arm failing could result in the other failing at the same time if the corrosion progresses evenly on both sides. The 2013 model Altima is covered under a service bulletin to have the lower control arms replaced at no cost due to the risk of failure. The same failure obviously occurs on the 2014 models but is not covered under the current service bulletin. The failure is caused by corrosion at the connection to the rear subframe.

11 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2021

I recently took my 2014 Nissan Altima in for new shocks and struts to my local mechanic. When the mechanic completed the work on the shocks and struts he completed an inspection of other parts of the vehicle and found that the passenger side rear control arm was cracked and the drivers side rear control arm was very rusted and corroded, but he could not find a crack. He then advised me that my vehicle was unsafe to drive. He also advised me that he had replaced numerous Nissan Altima rear control arms before, he was told that Nissan had a campaign to replace rear control arms due to them cracking. I then had my vehicle towed to the local Nissan dealership. After speaking with the service manager he advised me that only 2013 Nissan Altimas that are in areas of the country that have salt on the road and 2014 Nissan Altimas in canada are being fixed by Nissan. I have a 2014 Nissan Altima and live in ohio. Nissan should be expanding their campaign to 2014 vehicles that are having the same issue as the 2013's. Luckily, I was not driving my vehicle and my mechanic found the crack during an inspection. If he didn't find it, I along with my family or friends could have possibly been injured if the control arm completely cracked in half and caused me to crash. I hope Nissan isn't waiting for a fatality to consider a recall. $1300. 00 later I am going to pick up my vehicle from the local dealership. Class:19-002 ref#: ntb 19-082 id#: p9324.

Us is vague point to only 2013 with canada stating both 13 and 14. Expensive repair that should be covered by Nissan is very vague to avoid paying these repair cost. . In the evening of February 2nd 2021. My daughter was driving home on county road 12 (at a speed of around 50mph) near long lake, mn. She hear a loud sound and the car became more difficult to drive. Thankfully there was an exit that she could take and she stopped the car as soon as this was safe to do. The next day we had the car picked up by aaa and taken to the Nissan dealer (walser in wayzata, mn). They diagnosed that one of the rear control arms had corroded and collapsed, while the other side control arm was corroded and near collapse. Both were replaced at a cost of over $1,700. I checked the internet and noticed that this issue was subject of a recall for cars up to model year 2013 (in the us) and up to 2014 in canada), recall reference p9324 and that with effect from model year 2018, the manufacturer had changed the construction of the control arms and that this was significant improvement. Vehicle towed to dealership and was told that rear lower control arm was severely cracked, unsafe to drive. Service member also advised me that this is an ongoing issue with my vehicle and that I needed to go through Nissan USA consumer affairs since my vehicle (although the millions of issues on record) to have my repair approved. 19 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2020

I have been hearing a clunking sound from rear of car for few years multiple trips to dealers and had them look into noise. The only thing they came up with is the shocks were bad, I replaced them and car still had the clunking sound. I was returning home from trip to store and when entering my driveway off public side road @ about 2mph the drivers side rear control arm broke clean off from the mount bolted to the frame and the tire crashed into the inner fender and twisted to ~45 degree angle. I know that the 2013 has a recall in USA and canada and canada also has recall for 2014 for the same problem. If this had broke while I was on expressway 5 minutes earlier this could have caused serious injury to myself and passengers not to mention any body else that could have in my path. When dealer replaced driver side he said that the passenger side needed to be replaced also as it was showing stress cracks. The car is garage kept and located located in wisconsin I have all the parts that came off the car if anything is needed I can be reached @ scannerdan2003@gmail. Com.

22 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2020

On 9/9/2020 my wife was driving our 2014 Nissan Altima home from an errand when she felt that the steering was compromised. After arriving home she asked me to drive the car. I proceeded to back out of our driveway and after traveling only about 6' the driver rear wheel 'dropped'. Before exiting the vehicle I told her that it felt like the wheel had fallen off. I crawled under the vehicle and found that the rear driver control arm had completely rusted through causing the part to fail. I spoke to Nissan consumer affairs and learned that there was not an open recall for the 2014 Altima but there was for the 2013 Altima. I then decided to investigate on the national highway traffic safety administration website. I learned that the 2013-2018 control arm share a similar design when further reading NHTSA action number ea 19002. I also discovered that there was recall for the 2014 Altima in canada and we live 17 miles from the canadian border. I feel that the recall for this part should be expanded to include model year 2014-2018 because of the shared design.

23 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2020

The right rear control arm broke on my vehicle without warning. I was unable to control the car. Fortunately, I was only on a 30 mph road at the time. If I had been driving on the freeway, I most likely would have been seriously injured or possibly killed. There was a recall/replacement program in canada for this type of issue on the 2014 Nissan Altima, but nothing in the u. S. The repair cost me $730 due to having to drop the rear suspension in order to replace this part which made the job labor intensive. I feel that this type of issue should also be covered in the u. S.

26 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2020

Both the left and right rear control arms cracked due to rusting. My car operates in ohio, a state that uses salt to clear the roads. All the 2013 models were recalled for this manufacturing defect, however my car was built 9/29/13 at the start of the 2014 production. They were still using the same parts, since at this point they did not know they were defective, but did not recall the cars involved to be repaired. The resulting loss of control could be fatal if it happens on the freeway. Fortunately, my car did not experience that catastrophic level of impact. Howver, if my car was shipped to canada it would be part of that as they recalled all 2014's. Why isn't that the case here as they all came off the same assembly line with the same parts. This needs to be corrected in the u. S. My car started making very loud clunking noises as the parts were cracking and I stopped driving it and had it towed to the dealership. This is a significant safety issue, and Nissan knows it exists, look at onlimne reviews with the number of people having this issue, including your own site, and you can see just how bad this actually is. Please take the steps to expand this recall for the sake of all of us who own this car.

Did not drive the car again until it was taken in for repair. Two days later, when driving the car in for repair (about 5 miles away), the driver side rear wheel was wobbling, severely shaking the car. Drove the car only 25 mph. 32 Front Suspension Control Arm problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2020

I was driving at about 35mph, hit a small pothole & the rear control arm on the passenger side snapped. Not knowing about the service campaign (that came out in 10/2019- I purchased the car in 02/2020) I took it upon myself to get the part fixed. Almost $500 out of my pocket. Fast forward 10 months, driving 70 on the highway, didn't hit a pot hole or anything. . . The drivers side snapped. This is clearly a safety issue as I lost control of my car for a solid 15 seconds. How are only the 2014 Altimas in canada eligible for free repairs but a car in NY state is not? I have a case open and will be expecting a call on 02/08. Really hoping Nissan steps up to assist with repairs as this will amount to almost $1,000 in not even a year. .

Failure Date: 02/28/2020

While driving car suddenly became very unstable and wobbled until I was able to slow down. At the time I was traveling at a low speed so I was able to stop without losing control. Had this occurred on a highway, it could have been dangerous to myself and others. On investigation lower rear control arm had snapped on passenger side. Apparently this is an issue with Nissan Altimas. Currently dealer is refusing to repair under agreement with NHTSA because that only impacts 2013 models. This was the same issue as the agreement.
